  • With the wide application of intelligent household appliances, the optimization of electricity behavior has become an important component of home-based intelligent electricity. In this study, a multi-objective optimization model in an intelligent electricity environment is proposed based on economy and comfort. Firstly, the domestic consumer's load characteristics are analyzed, and the operating constraints of interruptible and transferable electrical appliances are defined. Then, constraints such as household electrical load, electricity habits, the correlation minimization electricity expenditure model of household appliances, and the comfort model of electricity use are integrated into multi-objective optimization. Finally, a continuous search multi-objective particle swarm algorithm is proposed to solve the optimization problem. The analysis of the corresponding example shows that the multi-objective optimization model can effectively reduce electricity costs and improve electricity use comfort.

  • A three-degree of freedom model of intake system was contrived and investigated in various ways for the purpose of the amelioration of the volumetric efficiency in a low and transient engine speed for a multi cylinder diesel engine. The basic concept beyond this model started from the theory that each degree of freedom model has volumetric efficiency peak as many as its number of the degree of freedom. The volumetric efficiency affects significantly to the engine performance; torque characteristics, fuel economy and emission level. For commercial vehicles and stationary engines, the engine is designed so as to produce their best performance near the normal engine speeds, thus the low engine speed area has a tendency of poor volumetric efficiency. The aim of this study was highlighted on the amelioration of volumetric efficiency of low engine speed area in a multi cylinder diesel engine matched with an additional Helmholtz resonator. By the use of VIS(variable induction system) volumetric efficiency at low engine speed range was significantly improved. The availability of control by combination of VIS and CIS(conventional induction system) will be proposed as a variable induction system that would be an appropriate model for amelioration of the volumetric efficiency at low engine speed.

  • This paper illustrates the competition between the mobile pay and credit card systems by utilizing the theory of two-sided markets. Two firms, as platforms, maximize the profit collecting fees from consumers on one side and from retailers on the other side. Consumers pay to buy goods and services with mobile pay, credit card, or cash. The basic model is one that each platform maximizes its profit. We show that the fees for credit card holders and retailers are higher than the respective costs. The fee for retailers of the mobile payment is higher than its cost, while the buyer's fee may be higher or lower than its cost. Applied model is the one that employs the delegation game model. The total profit of the mobile pay system is composed of its profit and the weighted demand for the mobile pay. It is shown that buyers' fee under the applied model is lower than that under the basic model, resulting in an increase of the demand for the mobile pay. The fee for the retailers rises, albeit the sum of fees for the buyers and retailers falls. The profit for the mobile pay system is increased, while that for the credit card company stays the same.

  • Purpose - The purpose of this paper is to analyze the dynamic factors of the daily FX implied volatility based on the fractional integration methods focusing on long memory feature and structural changes. Design/methodology/approach - This paper uses the daily FX implied volatility data of the EUR-USD and the JPY-USD exchange rates. For the fractional integration analysis, this paper first applies the basic ARFIMA-FIGARCH model and the Local Whittle method to explore the long memory feature in the implied volatility series. Then, this paper employs the Adaptive-ARFIMA-Adaptive-FIGARCH model with a flexible Fourier form to allow for the structural changes with the long memory feature in the implied volatility series. Findings - This paper finds statistical evidence of the long memory feature in the first two moments of the implied volatility series. And, this paper shows that the structural changes appear to be an important factor and that neglecting the structural changes may lead to an upward bias in the long memory feature of the implied volatility series. Research implications or Originality - The implied volatility has widely been believed to be the market's best forecast regarding the future volatility in FX markets, and modeling the evolution of the implied volatility is quite important as it has clear implications for the behavior of the exchange rates in FX markets. The Adaptive-ARFIMA-Adaptive-FIGARCH model could be an excellent description for the FX implied volatility series

  • The limited public funds available for infrastructure projects have led governments to consider private entities' participation in long-term contracts for finance, construction, and operation of these projects to share risks and rewards between the public and the private. Because these projects have complicated risk evolutions, diverse contractual forms for each project member to hedge risks involved in a project are necessary. In light of this, Build-Operate-Transfer(BOT) model is considered as effective to accomplish Public Private Partnerships(PPPs) with a characteristic of an ownership-reversion. In BOT projects, the government has used such an incentive system as minimum revenue guarantee(MRG) agreement to attract the private's participation. Although this agreement turns out critical in success of BOT project, there still exist problematic issues in a financial feasibility analysis since the traditional capital budgeting theory, Net Present Value(NPV) analysis, has failed to evaluate the contingent characteristic of MRG agreement. The purpose of this research is to develop real option model based on option pricing theory so as to provide a theoretical framework in valuing MRG agreement in BOT projects. To understand the applicability of the model, the model is applied to the example of the BOT toll road project and the results are compared with that by NPV analysis. Finally, we found that the impact of the MRG agreement is significant on the project value. Hence, the real option model can help the government establish better BOT policies and the developer make appropriate bidding strategies.

  • Headed studs welded to steel beams and embedded within the concrete of deck slabs are vital components of modern composite floor systems, where safety and economy depend on the accurate predictions of the stud shear resistance. The multitude of existing deck profiles and the complex behavior of studs in deck slab ribs makes developing accurate and reliable mechanical or empirical design models challenging. The paper addresses this issue by presenting a machine learning (ML) model developed from the natural gradient boosting (NGBoost) algorithm capable of producing probabilistic predictions and a database of 464 push-out tests, which is considerably larger than the databases used for developing existing design models. The proposed model outperforms models based on other ML algorithms and existing descriptive equations, including those in EC4 and AISC 360, while offering probabilistic predictions unavailable from other models and producing higher shear resistances for many cases. The present study also showed that the stud shear resistance is insensitive to the concrete elastic modulus, stud welding type, location of slab reinforcement, and other parameters considered important by existing models. The NGBoost model was interpreted by evaluating the feature importance and dependence determined with the SHapley Additive exPlanations (SHAP) method. The model was calibrated via reliability analyses in accordance with the Eurocodes to ensure that its predictions meet the required reliability level and facilitate its use in design. An interactive open-source web application was created and deployed to the cloud to allow for convenient and rapid stud shear resistance predictions with the developed model.
