  • Edible coatings are one of the most innovative methods to preserve the quality and increase the shelf life of fresh fruits and vegetables. A successful edible coating should have a barrier against gases, especially oxygen and water vapor, and have good surface characteristics. Today, chitosan coating is widely used due to its properties, such as non-toxic, biodegradable, and biocompatibility. Is. Coating the surface of fruits and vegetables with chitosan increases shelf life due to reducing weight loss and reducing respiration rate and also reduces decay due to its antimicrobial and anti-fungal effect. This work discusses the effect of using chitosan coating containing chamomile extract to increase fresh vegetables'shelf life. In addition to increasing the shelf life of vegetables, this method can be used as a solution for the economic management of human resources. The results of this method confirm the successful synthesis of these nanoparticles, and the results of applying this food coating on vegetables have been successful. They have increased the shelf life of vegetables such as basil and spinach.

Data was obtained from students (N= 493) at seven elementary schools in Choongbuk Province and analyzed with SPSS 12.0 and Structural Equation Modeling with AMOS 5.0. The major findings are as follows: economic difficulty gives a direct effect on elementary students' quality of life and is mediated with parent-child and between-peers relationships. Also, economic difficulty influences children's quality of life when a parent-child relationship is combined with a between-peers relationship. On the basis of these results, this study suggests that welfare centers and elementary schools have to teach students to have desirable sense of value. Also, schools need to provide education programs for parents to improve parent-child relationship and various activities for students to develop between-peers relationship.

  • This study intends to provide basic data to confirm the convergence effects of economic activity on the quality of life and oral health of middle-aged Korean women. Data from the 2019 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey were used, and complex sample logistic regression analysis and linear regression analysis were performed to confirm the effect of economic activity on health-related quality of life (Korean Health-related Quality of Life Instrument with 8 Items; HINT-8) and oral health-related factors. As a result, in the case of controlling for demographic characteristics and economic activity, there was a significant effect in 4 items (energy, work, memory, sleep) out of HINT-8. When the oral health status was adjusted, there was a significant effect only in 2 items (working and memory) of HINT-8 (p<.05). Therefore, although economic activity of middle-aged Korean women has a positive effect on quality of life, it is considered to be valuable in that oral health status can reduce the influencing factors.

  • The purposes of this research are to review the current economic measures to be used to assess the economic effects of agricultural infrastructure projects, to find some effects not included into the current measures, and to suggest new additional economic measures. So thus, economic assessment for agricultural infrastructure projects has been criticized to be overestimated. For example, some research reported that the projects enhanced rice productivity by 20% or 30%. We suggest four new measures to evaluate economic effects of agricultural infrastructure projects: (1) enhancement in productivity, (2) switchover from low-income crops to high-income crops, (3) rises in land price, and (4) lower fluctuation in production.

  • Objectives : This study was designed to compare North Korea and South Korea in measures of the quality of life (physical quality of life index and human development index) and to investigate the impact of selected medical and socioeconomic factors on PQL variables. Data and Methods : The World Bank, the United Nations Development Programme, and Population Reference Bureau were the principal sources of statistical data of 121 countries. Variables included infant mortality, life expectancy at birth, literacy rate, secondary school enrollment (male and female), GNP per capita, population per doctor, daily calorie supply per capita, and a composite PQL index. The Ordinary Least Square model was employed for cross-countries analysis. Findings : Both countries under quite different political and economic systems saw big improvememts in the quality of life, reducing mortality and prolonging life expectancy during the past three decades. In recent decad, however, North Korea has experienced abrupt exacerbation in the quality of life. Significant improvements in infant mortality of the population wer attributable mainly to GNP per capita and the secondary school enrollemt of female. The principal predictors of life expectancy at birth were population per doctor, infant mortality, and literacy rate. The secondary school enrollment of female and population per doctor were significantly associated with improvements in the physical quality of life index (PQLI). Conclusion : The results of this study confirmed a point illustrated by other studies : The association between quality of life as a measure of health status and socioeconomic factors was strong and positive. The important contribution of educational attainment in general, female education level in particular to improvements in the quality of life deserves good news for building an integrated health care system in the reunified Korea, taking into account the high level of education two koreas are enjoying. Meanwhile, when a sharp drop in the quality of life has been observed in North Korea under serious economic difficulties and food shortage in recent decade, the significant contribution of economic development to improvements in the quality of life poses bad nows for reunifying Korean health care in economic terms.
