  • This paper uses input-output techniques to analyze the impacts of the coastal and inland water transportation (CIWT) upon the Korean economy between 1990 and 2000. The impacts were identified by means of backward and forward linkages effects, production inducing and import-inducing effects, and commodity prices repercussion effects of the coastal and inland water transportation. The data of this study come from The Bank of Korea databases for Input-Output Structure of the Korean economy. The major findings in this study can, among others, be summarized: that the power of dispersion(=backward linkage effect) and the degree of sensitivity (=forward linkage effect) of CIWT are higher than those of the deep sea transportation sector and that it has higher production-inducing effect than the average of total industries, while it has lower import-inducing effect than the average of total industries.

  • The interest in personal health is now growing around the world. Accordingly, the insurance industry which is closely related to personal health is becoming more important. Insurance industry can be divided into to main stream, life insurance and indemnity insurance. This study attempts to compare the economic impacts of the life insurance industry and indemnity insurance industry using an inter-industry analysis. The study investigates production-inducing effect, value added inducing effect, employ-inducing effect, sectoral price effect using Exogenous specification. The results show that indemnity insurance industry induces production-inducing effect of 2.7 won, value-added-inducing effects of 1.6 won, employ-inducing effect of 26.9 person, sectoral price effects is 2.0%. On the other hand, life insurance industry induces production-inducing effect of 1.6 won, value-added-inducing effects of 1.0 won, employ-inducing effect of 16.5 person, sectoral price effects is 1.2%. Overall, indemnity inducements has higher economic impacts than life insurance.

  • This study aims to analyze the economic impact of IT industries to the Korean economy using IO tables from 1980 to 2003. As a result for the comparison with the economic impacts subject to 9 major industries, an importance of IT industries in Korean economy is likely to have increased very rapidly since 1980. And we also found that the production effect and spillover effect of Korean IT industry has steadily reduced whereas its price effect is still large.

  • This study aims to analyze how much KF-X production impacts on national economy by measuring economic spread effect based on inter-industry analysis. In order to evaluate the economic impact of KF-X production, we used input-output table of year 2007 of Korea. The results shows that KF-X production induces the production of 3,129 billon won and the value added of 1,206 billon won respectively. Also there are the creation of about 13,208 employment in the industry. The results from this study can be used as a basis for the further research on whether or not KF-X production could be processed.

  • RPS(Renewable Portfolio Standards) is an institutional device to promote use of renewable energy through market mechanism by making renewable energy to constitute a pre-announced portion of the electricity production. We measure economic impacts of the introduction of RPS to domestic electricity market at the levels of electricity market, individual industrial sectors and the economy as a whole. First, we examine the TREC(Tradable Renewable Energy Credits) market, where the credits in excess of the obligation of the renewable energy production are sold to those who have to meet the obligation through purchased credits. We then measure end-users' additional cost originating from the introduction of RPS and TREC in electricity production, and their impacts on price and supply in the retail electricity market. Next, using input-output analysis, we measure economic impacts of the changes in retail price and supply on individual industrial sectors and the economy as a whole. Among many others, we find small price effect and large GDP effect - sectoral electricity price rises at around 5%, sectoral price level rises by 0.258%, and sectoral GDP declines by 1.940% on average by the year 2011.

  • Climate changes have impacted to many sectors including water resources in Vietnam. Vietnam is agricultural development country having a lot of reservoirs. These reservoirs play a very important role in flow regulation for water supply to economic sectors. In the context of undesirable impacts of climate change such as increasing temparature, evaporation, changing rainfall and rainfall pattern, water demands and inflow to reservoirs also are being influenced. This leads to changes of resevoir exploitation effects that needs to be assessed for adaptation solutions. This arcticle summaries the development of a tool for quick assessement of climate change impacts on exploitation effect of reservoir in central provinces of Vietnam.

  • In these days, the interest on medical industry is increasing around the world. This paper attempts to estimate the economic effects of the medical and measuring instrument industry through the Input-Output Analysis. Especially, 78*78 Sector Tables were used as the first analysis tool. So then, 79*79 Sector Tables adjusted were used for that industry. The main analysis tools of this study are comparing and analyzing backward and forward linkage effect, the induced effect of the self industry and other industries and the induced coefficients such as products, value-added, employee's pay, sales surplus, employment. According to the result of analysis, the medical and measuring instrument industry has great economic impacts which affects the major macroeconomic factors such as production and backward linkage effect. And the induced effects of the self medical and measuring instrument industry are significant compared to other industries in aspects of production, employee's pay and sales surplus.

  • The purpose of this study is to provide logical and policy justification for the feasibility and sustainability of the project through analysis of economic ripple effects of the fishing village new deal 300 project. To do this, we applied the industry-related analysis, which is mainly used to analyze the economic ripple effects, to the fishing village new deal 300 project. The industry association analysis classifies the detailed project of the preliminary plan for the selection of the business into the software business such as the hardware business and the capacity enhancement in the construction field and analyzes the economic ripple effect through the inter-industry association. As a result, it is expected that the fishing village new deal 300 project will have a positive economic impact. When the total investment of 3 trillion won is invested in the project, it is estimated that the production inducement effect and the value added effect are 5,545.3 billion won and 2,102.7 billion won, respectively. In addition, 62,005 get job inducements, where 10,952 employment inducements were associated with job creation. The analysis of the above impacts seems to have secured the logical justification for the implementation of the fishing village new deal 300 project.

  • Purpose - The operating mechanism between education input and economic growth is a mysterious proposition that has attracted a vast array of scholars' interests to study on it. Therefore, this paper sets China as an example to analyze the dynamic relationship between education input and economic growth. Research design and methodology - The annual time series from 1990 to 2017 will be employed to conduct an empirical analysis under the vector autoregressive model. The education input is treated as an factor that impacts the economic growth such as labor input and capital input. Meanwhile, the education input will be added to the Cobb-Douglas production function to form a new one so as to explore the dynamic relationship between education input and economic growth. Results - According to the results of empirical analysis, it can be found that the education input has an increasingly positive effect on economic growth. Simultaneously, the economic growth also has a positive effect on education input, but this kind of effect is not steady. Of course, the labor input and the capital input also can promote the economic growth to some degree. Conclusions - The education input is one of most important inputs for a country. Based on the empirical analysis, this paper suggests that the China's government should put more emphasis on the education input so to make its economy develop well.

  • This paper has two objectives. One is to understand status of the distribution industry in Korea and compare it with industrialized countries. The other is an attempt to apply input-output(I-O) analysis to investigate the economic impacts of the distribution industry in the national economy for the year 2008. In the economy as a whole, the distribution industry represented about around 15 per cent employment and accounted for near 8 percent in GDP. The employment portion of the distribution in overall industry is almost same that of US, UK, and Japan, but shared portion in GDP is at least 3 per cent below these countries. Next, a static I-O framework is employed, focusing on two topics in its application. First, the impacts of the product or investment in the distribution industry on the product, value-added, and employment of other sectors are explored by using demand-driven model. Second, the national economic impacts of the distribution industry in Korea are looked into by using open model and inter-industry analysis. It can be summarized that the distribution industry has a high production-inducing effect, more worker and employment-inducing effect, a high forward and a low backward linkage effect. Finally, the implications and limitations of this study are discussed.
