  • The purpose of the article is to analyze the functioning of economic systems in the context of the development of their potential in a circular economy. It is determined that the functioning of economic systems to ensure their sustainability should meet modern challenges and provide for the formation of competitive institutional architecture, the introduction of structural and regulatory innovations, the transition to an innovative model of development. The specific principles of functioning of economic systems include openness, nonlinearity, multivectority, dynamism, emergence, uncertainty about the development of economic processes. It is substantiated that the linear nature of development and equilibrium are not dominant in the functioning of economic systems, and increasing the level of economic efficiency should go hand in hand with minimizing the activities of enterprises, which necessitates the use of circular economy. The main prerequisites for the transition to a circular economy are analyzed. It is determined that the basic concept of the circular economy involves the development of a system of production and consumption, which is based on processing, reuse, repair, product sharing, change of consumption patterns and new business models and systems. The main elements of the circular economy include: a closed cycle, the use of renewable energy sources, systems thinking. The correlation of the principles of sustainable development and the peculiarities of the application of the circular economy is analyzed. It is determined that the circular economy contrasts with the traditional linear economic model, which is based on the model of "take-do-consume-throw away". The advantages and disadvantages due to the use of the principles of circular economy are given. Based on the study, steps are identified to accelerate the transition from a linear economy to a circular economy.

  • Levelized generation cost(LGC) has been widely used in assessing feed-in tariffs(FiT) for electricity generating from new and renewable energies. Current FiTs for renewable electricity in Korea have been fixed and applied with realistic economic data by the efforts of KERI(Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute) since October 2006. Some critical issues on the estimation of LGC are, however, found in KERI's report. Major issues are the estimation of capital cost, the consideration of corporate tax, and the application of economic life cycle in the formulae for LGC. These critical issues are examined and interpreted in a correct way in this paper.

  • There has been a need for the systematic evaluation of the economic efficiency between conventional fluorescent lamp lighting systems that have been used in tunnels and LED lighting systems. This study has evaluated basic tunnel lighting between the conventional fluorescent lighting systems and the LED lighting system using the evaluation tool of tunnel lighting by Life Cycle Cost (LCC) and using the economic efficiency evaluation method. In addition, the unit discount rate of the LED lighting system and the estimated increase in the price of electricity have made the estimated cost of LCC the same if two luminaires were used in the basic part of the tunnel.

  • This paper discusses an economic study analysis of captive power plant as a commercial plant in the cost based pool market. In this paper I assumed the conversion of a captive power plant owned by factories to a commercial plant and investigated the changes in profitability associated with this. I set the total electricity expense of a captive purpose plant as state A and the costs associated with converting to a commercial purpose plant as state B. Each state subdivided by case which is classified its plant variable cost, type of generation (combined cycle, single cycle) and type of power contract received. After set model for each case, different economic benefits by each case can be calculated.

  • In the previous research, a simplified correlation method was developed as an easy prediction tool for comparing energy use of cooling plants. The purpose of this paper is to test the applicability of this method for economic evaluation with two zones of a 20-story commercial building in Seoul. The results of this method were compared with the DOE-2 simulation and actual measured data. Then, Comparisons of life cycle cost were carried out for three types of cooling plants. Testing of one zone showed good agreement of within 10% error in cooling energy use and within 2% error in LCC. But testing of the other zone indicated that the use of this method were invalid when input variables were used beyond its valid range.

  • This paper presents the economic evaluation of battery energy storage system(BESS). Application target of the BESS was decided to both the distribution substation and single customer. 1MW/4MWh BESS under research and development in KERI was used for example. We analyzed and compared BESS with conventional combind cycle. The result shows that BESS is more economic than conventional combind cycle.

  • This paper investigates the connectedness among housing markets using the methodology developed in Diebold and Yilmaz (2014, 2016). In particular, we examine the international linkages among housing markets in Northeast Asian countries: namely, China, Japan, and Korea. The basic finding is that connectedness measures vary over the business cycle, with a surge during the global financial crisis. However, the international linkages among the three Asian housing markets seem rather weak. By including GDP in the model, we also find that housing market in one country is more affected by its own economic conditions than that of neighboring countries. Given earlier evidence that cross-regional spillover among domestic housing markets is high, this result suggests that housing market connectedness is more of domestic cross-regional phenomena, rather than international ones.

  • Due to fossil fuel depletion and environmental pollution, H2 production from organic waste has received an increased attention. In this study, we present an integrated process for the H2 production from biogas and evaluate the economic feasibility and sustainability via rigorous techno-economic analysis (TEA) and life-cycle assessment (LCA). Through the TEA, we determine the minimum H2 selling price using discounted cash flow analysis and investigate the main cost drivers. The environmental impact of the proposed process is quantified via LCA.

  • This paper examines the interactions between financial conditions and business cycles in Mongolia, a small open economy, heavily depending on commodity exports. We construct two financial conditions indexes based on the reduced form IS model and the vector autoregression (VAR) model as surveillance tools to quantify the degree of the financial conditions. We find that real short-term interest rate and real effective exchange rate gap get a higher weight in the FCIs. Both business and financial cycles are often more pronounced in Mongolia, and financial condition is dependent of the financial and monetary policies in place. The analysis of the predictive power of the FCIs for business cycles shows that they have predictive information for the near-term economic activities. FCIs are also helpful in signaling inflation turning points.

  • This paper propose a method determining life cycle for military vehicle using availability analysis. Many studies determining life cycle for military equipments have been done recently However, those studies focused on economic life such as average system cost method, equivalent annual cost method and cumulative operations cost method. In many case, those results are not appropriate in deciding replacement in the field situation, we consider an effective life cycle method using availability concept. In order to determine an equipment life cycle. Two kinds of availability is considered. One is equipment yearly availability, the other is operational availability with operating distance per year. The life cycle is determined by achieving unit target availability level. The result using this concept for K511 military vehicle life cycle is about 19 years, which is longer than previous studies.
