  • The purpose of this study is to propose the decision making technique in roof waterproofing method at the early construction stage. Selecting the suitable construction method is difficult because of the complex interrelationships between many factors of influencing the construction method selection. This study presents an example of selecting suitable method by analyzing LCC (Life Cycle Cost) in roof waterproofing work. In this study, roof waterproofing method is analyzed by LCC(Life Cycle Cost) which is consists of the initial costs, running costs, and removal costs. Sheet waterproofing, membrane waterproofing and asphalt waterproofing costs are compared to select the most economic method. The result of this study revealed that considering LCC is useful in selecting the proper method in the construction work.

  • Acoustic Emission technique is widely applied to develop the early fault detection system, and the problem about a signal processing method for AE signal is mainly focused on. In the signal processing method, envelope analysis is a useful method to evaluate the bearing problems and Wavelet transform is a powerful method to detect faults occurred on rotating machinery. However, exact method for AE signal is not developed yet. Therefore, in this paper two methods which are Hilbert transform and DET for feature extraction. In addition, we evaluate the classification performance with varying the parameter from 2 to 15 for feature selection DET, 0.01 to 1.0 for the RBF kernel function of SVR, and the proposed algorithm achieved 94% classification accuracy with the parameter of the RBF 0.08, 12 feature selection.

  • This study was carried out to estimate the heritability and genetic correlation for body weight, shank length and shank width at various wk of age in growing Korean pheasant. All the measurements were done from one day to 20 wk of age with 4 wk interval. The heritability estimates for body weight were in the range of 0.54~0.59 for male and of 0.49~0.81 for female from 4 to 20 wk of age. The heritability estimates of male and female were in the range of 0.38~0. 82 and 0.41~0.67 for shank length, and of 0.48~0.88 and 0.49~0.71 for shank width, respectively. Genetic and phenotypic correlation coefficients between the measurements at different ages in each trait of body weight, shank length and shank width were medium to high positive values. Because the estimates of heritabilities and genetic correlations were high, the genetic gain for body weight is expected by either a direct selection or an early selection based on the record of early growing stage.

  • High redshift quasars (z > 5) hold keys to understanding the evolution of the universe in its early stage. Yet, the number of high redshift quasars uncovered from previous studies is relatively small (70 or so), and are concentrated mostly in a limited redshift range (z ~ 6). To understand the early mass growth of supermassive black holes and the final stage of the cosmic reionization, it is important to find a statistically meaningful sample of quasars with various physical properties. Here we present a survey for high redshift quasars at 5 < z < 7. Through color selection techniques using multi-wavelength data, we found quasar candidates and carried out imaging follow-up observations to reduce contaminants. After optical spectroscopy, we discovered eight new quasars. We obtained near-infrared spectra for 3 of these 8 quasars, measured their physical properties such as black hole masses and Eddington ratios, and found that the high redshift quasars we discovered are growing via accretion more vigorous than those of their lower redshift counterparts. We estimated the quasar number densities from our discoveries and compared them to those expected from the quasar luminosity functions in literature. In contrast to the observed number density of quasars at z ~ 5, which agrees with literature, the observed number density at z ~ 7 shows values lower than what is expected, even after considering an extrapolated number density evolution. We conclude that the quasar number density at z ~ 7 declines toward higher redshift, more steeply than the empirically expected evolution.

  • The records on 787 white Leghorn hens from two different strains, A and K were wed in this study to find out the pattern of increase in egg weight with age and the optimum age of early selection for maximizing the genetic gain. The pattern of increase in egg weight with age in two lines which was expressed on graph showed that the amount of increase was larger in the early part of the laying year and it decreased gradually. Regression equations suggested that egg weight increased linearly with age at the rate of 0.46 gram per week for line A and 0.83 gram for line K. And in the regression analyses of each period mean egg weight on annual mean egg weight, the coefficients of EW 30 that is mean egg weight from 29 weeks of age to 32 weeks of age were 0.86 for line A, 0.88 for line K, and those were the highest figures among the all regression coefficients of each mean egg weight on annual mean egg weight. In estimating the relative selection efficiency of each period mean egg weight on annual mean egg weight in EW 46, selection on EW 34 for line A and on EW 30 for line K was the most efficient for improving egg weight. These results suggested that one periods from 29 weeks of age to 36 weeks of age could be used for the best predictable time for improving annual mean egg weight.

  • This study was conducted to develop new lines expressing the characteristic of early flowering by introducing MdMADS2 gene in chrysanthemum (Dendranthema grandiflorum (Ramat.) Kitamura) ‘Zinba'. Transformation of chrysanthemum was conducted by Agrobacterium tumefaciens LBA4404 harboring the binary vector containing MdMADS2 controlled by double CaMV 35S promoters. Ninety three shoots were regenerated from 1,463 leaf segment explants cultured on the first selection medium (MS basal salts + 1.0 mg/L BA + 0.5 mg/L IAA + 10 mg/L kanamycin + 400 mg/L cefotaxime, pH 5.8) after co-cultivation, and 20 out of the 93 shoots rooted on the second selection medium containing 20 mg/L kanamycin and 400 mg/L cefotaxime. Many escapes (98.6%) were removed on the selection stage for rooting. Nineteen lines were confirmed as transgenic plant with transgene by PCR analysis. Six transgenic plants flowered 2-11 days earlier than non-transgenic plant without big change of phenotype, and especially, 3 (Mo-7, Mo-11, Mo-17) out of 6 transgenic lines showed a significant reduction in days to flowering compared to non-transgenic plant. Introduction and expression of MdMADS2 gene in them were confirmed by Southern and real-time PCR analyses, respectively.

  • This study suggests the output of the fingerprint doorlock design development through the structured methodology of concept selection in the process of design development, after characterizing the doorlock product itself. All of the early phases of product development are very important on eventual product success. Concept selection is the process of evaluating concepts with respect to customer needs and other criteria, comparing the relative strength and weaknesses of the concepts, and selecting one or more concepts for further investigation or development. To obtain the ideal concept o( new product, this work used a two-stage concept selection methodology which consist of concept screening and concept scoring. As a result, this study represents the fixed design rendering for mass production.

  • Web Services have been utilized in a wide variety of applications and have turned into a key technology in developing business operations on the Web. Originally, Web Services can be exploited in an isolated form, however when no single Web Service can satisfy the functionality required by a user, there should be a possibility to compose existing services together in order to fulfill the user requirement. However, since the same service may be offered by different providers with different non-functional Quality of Service (QoS), the task of service selection for Web Service composition is becoming complicated. Also, as Web Services are inherently unreliable, how to deliver reliable Web Services composition over unreliable Web Services should be considered while composing Web Services. In this paper, we propose an approach on a QoS-aware Web Service selection for reliable Web Service composition. In our approach, we select and classify Web Services using Decision Tree based on QoS attributes provided by the client. Service classifier will improve selection of relevant Web Services early in the composition process and also provide flexibility to replace a failed Web Services with a redundant alternative Web Services, resulting in high availability and reliability of Web Service composition. We will provide an implementation of our proposed approach along with efficiency measurements through performance evaluation.
