Transparent amorphous In-Si-O (ISO)/Ag/In-Si-O (ISO) has been reported for low emissivity (low-e) applications. Effective Si doping into the $In_2O_3$ matrix led to a completely amorphous ISO film as well as a low resistivity and a high optical transmittance. The optical and electrical performances were examined by measuring transmittance with a UV-VIS spectrophotometer and resistivity with a Hall effect measurement. Consequently, low-e glass with ISO/Ag/ISO showed a high transparency in the visible region and low emissivity in the infrared region, indicating that ISO is a promising amorphous transparent electrode for low-e glass.
Pressure ripples, which are inevitably generated by a fluctuation of flow rate caused by a pump mechanism, include noises and vibrations in hydraulic pipeline. These noises and vibration deteriorate the stability and accuracy of hydraulic systems. The accumulator and hydraulic attenuator are normally used to reduce the pressure ripples. In this study, a parallel line is introduced to the hydraulic pipeline for the hydraulic system with a bent-axis piston pump as a method to reduce the pressure ripples. The dynamic characteristics of the hydraulic pipeline with a parallel line are analyzed by a transfer matrix in the frequency domain. The usefulness of the hydraulic pipeline with a parallel line was ascertained by experiment and simulation. The results from the experiment and simulation show that the hydraulic pipeline with a parallel line were effective in reducing the pressure ripples.
This note presents the main results of an experimental investigation into the mechanical behaviour of a composite sandwich conceived as a lightweight material for naval engineering applications. The sandwich structure is formed by a three-dimensional glass fibre/polymer matrix fabric with transverse piles interconnecting the skins; the core is filled with a polymer matrix/glass microspheres syntactic foam; additional Glass Fibre Reinforced Plastics extra-skins are laminated on the external facings of the filled fabric. The main features of the experimental tests on syntactic foam, skins and sandwich panels are presented and discussed, with focus on both in-plane and out-of-plane responses. This work is part of a broader research investigation aimed at a complete characterisation, both experimental and numerical, of the complex mechanical behaviour of this composite sandwich.
The Discrete Element Method, DEM, is increasingly used in fracture studies of non-homogeneous continuous media, such as rock and concrete. A 2D circular rigid DEM formulation, developed to model concrete, has been adopted. A procedure developed to generate aggregate particles with a given aspect ratio and shape is presented. The aggregate particles are modelled with macroparticles formed by a group of circular particles that behave as a rigid body. Uniaxial tensile and compression tests performed with circular and non-circular aggregates, with a given aspect ratio, have shown similar values of fracture toughness when adopting uniform strength and elastic properties for all the contacts. Non-circular aggregate assemblies are shown to have higher fracture toughness when different strength and elastic properties are set for the matrix and for the aggregate/matrix contacts.
In this paper, a new Recursive Least-Squares(RLS) algorithm based on matrix pseudo-inverses is presented. The aim is to use the proposed new RLS algorithm for not only the over-determined but also the under-determined estimation problem. Compared with previous results, e.g., Jie Zhou et al., the derivation of the proposed recursive form is much easier, and the recursion form is also much simpler. Furthermore, it is shown by simulations that the proposed RLS algorithm is more efficient and numerically stable than the existing algorithms.
This paper proposes a hybrid method for vibration analysis in the medium to high frequency ranges using Power Flow Analysis (PFA) algorithm and Statistical Energy Analysis (SEA) coupling concepts. The main part of the developed method is the application of coupling loss factor (CLF) suggested in SEA to the power transmission, reflection coefficients in PI' A boundary conditions. The developed hybrid method shows very promising results with regard to the applications for the various damping loss factors in wide frequency ranges. And also this paper presents the applied results of Power Flow Finite Element Method (PFFEM) by forming the new joint element matrix with CLF to analyze the various plate structures in shape. The analytical results of automobile, complex plate structures show good agreement with those of PFFEM using the PFA coefficients.

A unified procedure for principal component regression (PCR), partial least squares (PLS) and ordinary least squares (OLS) is proposed. The process gives solutions for PCR, PLS and OLS in a unified and non-iterative way. This enables us to see the interrelationships among the three regression coefficient vectors, and it is seen that the so-called E-matrix in the solution expression plays the key role in differentiating the methods. In addition to setting out the procedure, the paper also supplies a robust numerical algorithm for its implementation, which is used to show how the procedure performs on a real world data set.
A model for the phonon dispersion relationship for cubic zinc sulfide structure, for example SiC, is developed in terms of two unknown force constants. Born model that incorporates bond bending and bond stretching, is used for the force constants. The force constants are determined by fitting to experimental data. Using only the nearest-neighbor coupling results in $6{\times}6$ sized dynamic matrix. The eigenvalues of dynamics matrix for each wavenumber in 3-D ${\kappa}$ space correspond to frequencies, 3 for optical phonon and 3 for acoustic phonon, which is so-called dispersion relation (${\kappa}$-${\omega}$). The density of state is determined by counting the states for each frequency bin, and the properties such as specific heat and thermal conductivity can be obtained. The specific heat is estimated on this model and compared with experiment and other models, i.e. Debye model, Einstein model and combined Debye-Einstein model. In spite of the simple bond potential model, reasonable agreements are found.
Some interaction characteristics, i.e., light scattering characteristics, of infrared (IR) radiation with small ice crystals are investigated systematically by using the exact T-matrix approach. Some important facts are obtained, which reveal, especially, that the combination of both the 25 and 3.979$\mu$m together has some advantages and potential applications for remote sensing of cirrus and other ice clouds. A new far-IR channel at the wavelength of 25$\mu$m is proposed.
The singular value decomposition is one of the most useful methods in the area of matrix computation. It gives dimension reduction which is the centeral idea in many multivariate analyses. But this method is not resistant, i.e., it is very sensitive to small changes in the input data. In this article, we derive the resistant version of singular value decomposition for principal component analysis. And we give its statistical applications to biplot which is similar to principal component analysis in aspects of the dimension reduction of an n x p data matrix. Therefore, we derive the resistant principal component analysis and biplot based on the resistant singular value decomposition. They provide graphical multivariate data analyses relatively little influenced by outlying observations.
