  • Let * be an e.a.b. star operation on an integrally closed domain D, and let $K\gamma$(D, *) be the Kronecker function ring of D. We show that if D is a P*MD, then the mapping $D_{\alpha}{\mapsto}K{\gamma}(D_{\alpha},\;{\upsilon})$ is a bijection from the set {$D_{\alpha}$} of *-linked overrings of D into the set of overrings of $K{\gamma}(D,\;{\upsilon})$. This is a generalization of [5, Proposition 32.19] that if D is a Pr$\ddot{u}$fer domain, then the mapping $D_{\alpha}{\mapsto}K_{\gamma}(D_{\alpha},\;b)$ is a one-to-one mapping from the set {$D_{\alpha}$} of overrings of D onto the set of overrings of $K_{\gamma}$(D, b).

  • For the question "when is E(RR) a flat left R-module for any ring R?", in this paper, we deal with a class of modules partaking in the hierarchy of injective and cotorsion modules, so-called Harmanci injective modules, which turn out by the motivation of relations among the concepts of injectivity, flatness and cotorsionness. We give some characterizations and properties of this class of modules. It is shown that the class of all Harmanci injective modules is enveloping, and forms a perfect cotorsion theory with the class of modules whose character modules are Matlis injective. For the objective we pursue, we characterize when the injective envelope of a ring as a module over itself is a flat module.

  • The complete nucleotide sequence of the nahC gene from Pseudomonas fluorescens, the structural gene for 1,2-dihydroxynaphthalene (1,2-DHN) dioxygenase, was determined. The 1,2-DHN dioxygenase is an extradiol ring-cleavage enzyme that cleaves the first ring of 1,2-dihydroxynaphthalene. The amino acid sequence of the dioxygenase deduced from the nucleotide sequence suggested that the holoenzyme consists of eight identical subunits with a molecular weight of approximately 34,200. The amino acid sequence of 1,2-DHN dioxygenase showed more than $90\%$ homology with those of the dioxygenases of other Pseudomonas strains. However, sequence similarity with those of the Sphingomonas species was less than $60\%$. The nahC gene of P. fluorescens was moderately expressed in E. coli NM522, as determined by enzymatic activity.

  • In this work, we report the synthesis and characterization of azomethineester polymers that consist of banana-shaped mesogen in their backbone. Two parts of the key structure of five-ring bent-core mesogen were modified by connecting different angle of central unit (Ar), and introducing lateral substituent into the outer ring (X). The synthetic details includes (1) placing the dioxydodecamethylene unit as a flexible spacer, (2) possessing 2,3- or 2,7-naphthylene, or 1,2-phenylene connection on the central unit, and (3) introducing fluorine or chlorine substituent (X = F or Cl) into the outer phenylene unit.

  • This paper presents a single-stage ZVT full-bridge AC/DC converter for aerospace applications. The detailed operating principle and design consideration of this soft-switched converter are analyzed and described. The proposed circuit topology and control scheme are proposed to exhibit optimum performances (i.e. high power factor, high efficiency, ring-free and low EMI features). A laboratory prototype, 500W 5V/100A AC/DC converter was implemented. The simulation and experimental waveforms verify the feasibility of the proposed design.

  • A remediation technology consisting of biodegradation and a modified Fenton reaction was developed to degrade mixtures of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) at a former manufactured gas plant (MGP) site. The original Fenton reaction (i.e., $H_2O$$_2$ + Fe$^{2+}$) was modified to be biocompatible by using ferric ions and chelating agents such as catechol and gallic acid. The modified reaction was effective in degrading PAHs at near neutral pH and thus was compatible with biodegradation. By the combined treatment of the modified Fenton reaction and biodegradation, more than 98% of 2- or 3-ring hydrocarbons and between 70 and 85% of 4- or 5-ring compounds were degraded in the MGP soil, while maintaining its pH about 6.6.

  • Three ring type liquid crystalline compounds having 4-alklycyclohexyl group, 1,2-difluorobenzene and phenylisothiocyanate moieties as main skeleton were designed to have negative dielectricity. However, the compounds with 2,3,2'-trifluoro-3'-isothiocyanated biphenylcyclohexane core did not exhibit the nematic liquid crystalline phase because of two conformers by interaction of isothiocyanate and adjacent fluorine atoms. Also, 4-alkyl-2,2',3'-trifluoro-3-isothiocyanated biphenylcyclohexane core was designed expecting to have uniform conformers of isothiocyanate group. In the course of developing polyimides for VA mode LCD, we synthesized alkyl-3,5-diaminobenzene efficiently with various length of alkyl chains from commercially available di-t-butyl malonate and 3,5-dinitrobenzoyl chloride as starting material.

  • Dual mode ring resonators(DMRR) have been fabricated using laser ablated $YBa_2Cu_3O_{7-x}$ superconducting thin films. The transition temperature of YBCO thin films were 85 - 88 K and the film thicknesses were about 5,000 $\AA$. Dual mode ring resonators were patterned by standard photolithography process and wet-etching. Then two-layer metal thin films (Ti/Ag) have been deposited for the ground plane on the back side of substrate by e-beam and thermal evaporation. The input/output feedline angles of each resonator were $60^{\circ}$, $100^{\circ}$, $180^{\circ}$. A network analyzer was used for testing the performance of the resonators in the frequency range of 6-13 GHz at 77 K.

  • Radiofrequency thermal ablation (RTA) as one of the microwave hyperthermia is becoming the treatment of choice for small but inoperable tumors of the liver. In this paper, we designed the applicator composed of semi-rigid coaxial cable antenna with a ring slot for RTA. To optimize the maximum output of radiation at 2450 MHz, we simulated the antenna using Electromagnetic simulation tools Maxwell program and analyzed the return loss and the electric field $E_{tot}$ at the near-field region between the simulation results and measurement results. As a result, we obtained the return loss of -29.786 dB at 2450 MHz when the antenna was placed between two blocks of a pig's liver, and the measurement results agreed with the simulation results well. Therefore, this semi-rigid coaxial cable antenna with a ring slot can be used very usefully as the applicator for RTA.r RTA.A.
