Flexible base isolation bearings that separate superstructure from ground have been widely used in the construction field because they make a significant contribution to increasing the fundamental period of the structure, thereby decreasing response acceleration transmitted into the superstructure. However, the established bearing devices installed to uphold the whole building give rise to some problems involved with failure and collapse due to lack of the capacity as modern structures are getting more massive and higher. Therefore, this study suggests new isolation bearings assembled with additional restrainers enabled to reinforcing and recentering, and then evaluates their performance to withstand the seismic load. The superelastic shape memory alloy (SMA) bars are installed into the conventional lead-rubber bearing (LRB) devices in order to provide recentering forces. These new systems are modeled as component spring models for the purpose of conducting nonlinear dynamic analyses with near fault ground motion data. The LRB devices with steel bars are also designed and analyzed to compare their responses with those of new systems. After numerical analyses, ultimate strength, maximum displacement, permanent deformation, and recentering ratio are compared to each model with an aim to investigate which base isolation models are superior. It can be shown that LRB models with superelastic SMA bars are superior to other models compared to each other in terms of seismic resistance and recentering effect.

Recently, the probability of rock joints being exposed to free faces is getting higher for the scale of rock mass structures gets larger. Also, the frequency of occurring dynamic events such as earthquakes and blasting has been increasing. Thus, the shear behavior of rock joints under different conditions needs to be investigated. In this study, a series of direct shear tests were carried out under various conditions to examine the velocity-dependent shear behavior of saw-cut rock joints. Two types of direct shear test were carried out. The first was to examine the velocity-dependent shear behavior of saw-cut rock joints at seven different shear velocities, each with three different normal stresses. The second was to examine the shear behavior of saw-cut rock joints when three different instantaneous shear velocities changed. As a result, the coefficient of friction was affected by normal stress. The breakpoint velocity, the point when the change of shear velocity starts to affect the frictional behavior, became lower as normal stress increased. Also, as the shear velocity became lower, the degree of stress-drop on stick-slip behavior became larger. As a result of examining the changes of friction coefficient, velocity weakening (decrease of friction coefficient) was observed. The decrement of friction coefficient due to the changes of shear velocity under slow shear velocity was larger than that under fast shear velocity.
The problem of wheel tread defects has become a major challenge for the health management of high-speed rail as a wheel defect with small radius deviation may suffice to give rise to severe damage on both the train bogie components and the track structure when a train runs at high speeds. It is thus highly desirable to detect the defects soon after their occurrences and then conduct wheel turning for the defective wheelsets. Online wheel condition monitoring using wheel impact load detector (WILD) can be an effective solution, since it can assess the wheel condition and detect potential defects during train passage. This study aims to develop an FBG-based track-side wheel condition monitoring method for the detection of wheel tread defects. The track-side sensing system uses two FBG strain gauge arrays mounted on the rail foot, measuring the dynamic strains of the paired rails excited by passing wheelsets. Each FBG array has a length of about 3 m, slightly longer than the wheel circumference to ensure a full coverage for the detection of any potential defect on the tread. A defect detection algorithm is developed for using the online-monitored rail responses to identify the potential wheel tread defects. This algorithm consists of three steps: 1) strain data pre-processing by using a data smoothing technique to remove the trends; 2) diagnosis of novel responses by outlier analysis for the normalized data; and 3) local defect identification by a refined analysis on the novel responses extracted in Step 2. To verify the proposed method, a field test was conducted using a test train incorporating defective wheels. The train ran at different speeds on an instrumented track with the purpose of wheel condition monitoring. By using the proposed method to process the monitoring data, all the defects were identified and the results agreed well with those from the static inspection of the wheelsets in the depot. A comparison is also drawn for the detection accuracy under different running speeds of the test train, and the results show that the proposed method can achieve a satisfactory accuracy in wheel defect detection when the train runs at a speed higher than 30 kph. Some minor defects with a depth of 0.05 mm~0.06 mm are also successfully detected.

Nowadays, as part of an effort to increase the efficiency of propulsion shafting system, the revolution of the main diesel engine in CMCR(Contract Maximum Continuous Rating) is reduced whereas the stiffness of hull structure supporting the main diesel engine is relatively flexible. However, vibration problems related with resonant response of main diesel engine are increasing although top bracing is installed between the main diesel engine and the hull structures to increase natural frequency of engine body above CMCR to avoid resonant phenomenon. In this study, the dynamic characteristic of top bracing is reviewed by analyzing measuring results of general cargo ships which apply the hydraulic type instead of the friction type to control the natural frequency and the vibration of the engine body. Moreover, considering the vibration characteristic of the engine body and the hydraulic type of the top bracing by varying the number of top bracing, authors suggest the more effective way to control the vibration of the engine body despite of lower stiffness of the hull structure than in the past when the hydraulic type of top bracing is used.
Urban environment represent one of the most dynamic regions on earth. As in other countries, forests, green areas, agricultural lands are rapidly changing into residential or industrial areas in South Korea. Monitoring such rapid changes in land use requires rapid data acquisition, and satellite imagery can be an effective method to this demand. In general, SAR(Synthetic Aperture Radar) satellites acquire images with an active system, so the brightness of the image is determined by the surface roughness. Therefore, the water areas appears dark due to low reflection intensity, In the residential area where the artificial structures are distributed, the brightness value is higher than other areas due to the strong reflection intensity. If we use these characteristics of SAR images, settlement areas can be extracted efficiently. In this study, extraction of settlement areas was performed using TerraSAR-X of German high-resolution X-band SAR satellite and KOMPSAT-5 of South Korea, and object-oriented image classification method using the image segmentation technique is applied for extraction. In addition, to improve the accuracy of image segmentation, the speckle divergence was first calculated to adjust the reflection intensity of settlement areas. In order to evaluate the accuracy of the two satellite images, settlement areas are classified by applying a pixel-based K-means image classification method. As a result, in the case of TerraSAR-X, the accuracy of the object-oriented image classification technique was 88.5%, that of the pixel-based image classification was 75.9%, and that of KOMPSAT-5 was 87.3% and 74.4%, respectively.
Aluminum silicates ($Al_2SiO_5$) undergo phase transitions among kyanite, andalusite, and sillimanite depending on temperature and pressure conditions. The minerals are often used as an important indicator of the degree of metamorphism for certain metamorphic rocks. In this study, we have applied classical molecular dynamics (MD) simulations and density functional theory (DFT) to the aluminum silicates. We examined the crystal structures as a function of applied pressure and the corresponding stabilities based on calculated enthalpies at each pressure. In terms of the lattice parameters, both methods showed that the volume decreases as the pressure increases as observed in the experiment. In particular, DFT results differed from experimental results by much less than 1%. As to the relative stability, however, both methods showed different levels of accuracy. In the MD simulations, a transition pressure at which the relative stability between two minerals reverse could not be determined because the enthalpies were insensitive to the applied pressure. On the other hand, in DFT calculations, the relative stability relation among the three minerals was consistent with experiment, although the transition pressure was strongly dependent on the choice of the electronic exchange-correlation functional.
The most significant difference of embedded systems from general purpose systems is that embedded systems are allowed to use only limited resources including battery and memory. Especially, the number of applications increases which deal with multimedia data. In those systems with high data computations, the delay of memory access is one of the major bottlenecks hurting the system performance. As a result, many researchers have investigated various techniques to reduce the memory access cost. Most programs generally have locality in memory references. Temporal locality of references means that a resource accessed at one point will be used again in the near future. Spatial locality of references is that likelihood of using a resource gets higher if resources near it were just accessed. The latest embedded processors usually adapt cache memory to exploit these two types of localities. Processors access faster cache memory than off-chip memory, reducing the latency. In this paper we will propose the enhanced dynamic allocation technique for structure-type data in order to eliminate unused memory space and to reduce both the cache miss rate and the application execution time. The proposed approach aggregates fields from multiple records dynamically allocated and consecutively remaps them on the memory space. Experiments on Olden benchmarks show $13.9\%$ L1 cache miss rate drop and $15.9\%$ L2 cache miss drop on average, compared to the previously proposed techniques. We also find execution time reduced by $10.9\%$ on average, compared to the previous work.

This study examined dynamic and characteristics and chloride penetration of concrete mixed with large amount of FA and BFS, which are considered for positive application to construction fields with purpose of long-tern durability of concrete structures. As a result of strength test on FA and BFS, FA concrete showed higher increase of strength compared to OPC, when FA4000 and FA5000 were mixed 30%, respectively. For BFS concrete, those mixed with 30% and 50% of BFS8000, respectively, showed higher or equivalent strength compare to OPC. As a result of test of chloride penetration on FA and BFS, diffusion coefficients of concrete mixed with 30% FA4000 and FA5000, respectively, showed to restrain average 6.5% of diffusion coefficient compared to OPC. And in case of BFS concrete, those mixed with BFS6000 and BFS8000, restrained diffusion of chloride ions 253% and 336%, respectively, compared to OPC. Therefore, Mixing 50% of BFS was most efficient in order to maximize restraint of chloride penetration according to metathesis of large amount. For relation between compression strength and diffusion coefficient of FA and BFS concrete, as strength increased, diffusion coefficient decreased. In this study, when mixing FA and BFS to concrete for long-run durability and restraint against chloride penetration, for FA, mixing it to concrete with less or equivalent 30% of replacement rate was most efficient. And for BFS, as fineness was higher and mixing it to concrete with less or equivalent 50% of replacement rate, there were results of higher strength compared to OPC and more efficient restraint of chloride ions.
For several decades in history of cartoon, it was about the era of publishing tendency based on printing technique just until few years before now. The media critic Marshall McLuhan said, "The cartoon of the 20th century have characters of printing or woodblock printing yet. Coming in to the 1980s, unlike traditional printing, cartoons of more various form appeared such as 'Moving cartoon, CD-ROM cartoon, Click-cartoon'. These phenomenons diversified and accelerated during the electronic equipments and internet that cartoon were able to be produced and distributed on not printing forms were progressing and popularizing. Like these, base on the progress of various forms in webtoon, this study will suggest 3 concept about expansion of Spatial Expressions of expression and cognition such as 'Reminiscent of The Vertical Image', 'The Vertical Panorama' and 'The Morphing into Spaces'. Also, , , the works of Doha Kang who is in the spotlight as the webtoonist of avant-garde and dynamic works, will be examined and analysed as the texts. Doha Kang was selectied as a 'Contemporary Twenty Webtoonist in Korea' from a survey of the cartoon's experts in korea by Bucheon Cartoon Information Center in 2009. He has recognized as the most experimental and be influential webtoonist from beginning of webtoon era to today. In this context, the analyses of his two works that was published in 2007, 2009 each, will helps understanding from diverse viewpoint about webtoon's expressions and structures. Furthermore, this study helps focus on values of webtoon as expansion art of Spatial Expression.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the static and dynamic change of wage differentials of women with disabilities in the Seoul local labor market. This study attempts to explain the double discrimination mechanism for disabled women and empirically gender discrimination and disability discrimination for them by using Oaxaca-Blinder decomposition analysis. In addition, using Juhn-Murphy-Pierce decomposition analysis. we analyze the wage differentials caused by the changed characteristics of disabled women and structures of discrimination at the Seoul local labor market. Data from the Panel Survey of Employment for the Disabled and Korean Labor and Income Panel Study for two years (2008, 2012) are used. According to the result, wage differentials of disabled women caused by disability discrimination is approximately 55% of total wage discrimination, whereas 45% is caused by gender discrimination during the period. Both observed and unobserved components move in the same direction to narrow wage differentials due to the disability discrimination and gender discrimination. Also the endowments in the Seoul local labor market about the changes of observed and unobserved components contribute more to narrow gender wage differentials, while these endowments widen disability wage differentials.
