The bolier systems of coal fired power plants are large, non-linear systems with numerous interactions between its component parts. In the analysis of such complex systems, dynamic simulation is recognized as a powerful method of keeping track of the myriad of interactions. The boiler system consists of air/gas system and water/steam system. Due to recent reinforcement of environmental regulation on pollutant discharge and requirements of design validation on properites of boiler, the commercial programs are used for the analysis of boiler system. This paper addressed to the development of model using MMS(Modular Modeling System) developed by EPRI(Electric Power Research Institute) as the simulation tool. The developed model using MMS is tested for the design and local data on boiler combustion system of korea standard coal fired power plant boiler. The simulation results show that the developed model well reproduces responses of the combustion system with less than ${\pm}$5% error under steady state and transient state conditions. The developed model for analysis of the combustion system in this paper is general and applicable to any type of coal fired power plant.

The investigations were discussed on the radiation effects of the electrical properties to the p-type MOS capacitors, which were irradiated by cobalt-60 gamma ray sources. The characteristics of capacitance-bias voltage(C-V) and of dielectric dissipation tarter-bias voltage(D-V) on the capacitors were measured at 1 [MHz] frequency. The microscopic behaviors of spate charges in oxide and silicon-silicon dioxide(Si- $SiO_2$) interface were investigated from the experimental data. The C-V characteristics are statical and convenient for the evaluation of the steady state behavior of carriers and interface states characteristics. While, the distribution and magnitude of space charges in oxide can be found out accurately on the $V_{dp}$ in D-V curves. The density of interface states can be deduced with ease from the magnitude of D-peak at depletion state. Thus, it is also concluded that the D-V curves are more useful and easier than conventional C-V curves for analysis of the microscopic and dynamic behavior of carriers in oxide and Si- $SiO_2$interface.

This paper studies modeling of Jeju 80kV HVDC system and its controller by using PSCAD/EMTDC program. Reduced ac network is applied to verify interaction between ac network and dc system. Design parameter is applied to the converter transformer, harmonic filter and dc transmisstion line to simulate dc system. HVDC controller is divided into a rectifier controller and a inverter controller according to the converter operating mode. The inverter controller is composed of current control, voltage control and extingtion angle control. The rectifier controller is composed of current control and voltage control. Both controller has VDCOL characteristics so that current order is dependant on voltage variation. Step response, ac network single phase fault, three phase fault is simulated to verify the dynamic performance of controller model in both transient state and steady state.
Netflix, Amazon Prime, and YouTube are the most popular and fastest-growing streaming services globally. It is a matter of great interest for the streaming service providers to preview their service infrastructure and streaming strategy in order to provide new streaming services. Hence, the first part of the paper presents a detailed survey of the Content Distribution Network (CDN) and cloud infrastructure of these service providers. To understand the streaming strategy of these service providers, the second part of the paper deduces a common quality-of-service (QoS) model based on rebuffering time, bitrate, progressive download ratio, and standard deviation of the On-Off cycle. This model is then used to analyze and compare the streaming behaviors of these services. This study concluded that the streaming behaviors of all these services are similar as they all use Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP (DASH) on top of TCP. However, the amount of data that they download in the buffering state and steady-state vary, resulting in different progressive download ratios, rebuffering levels, and bitrates. The characteristics of their On-Off cycle are also different resulting in different QoS. Hence a thorough adaptive bit rate (ABR) analysis is presented in this paper. The streaming behaviors of these services are tested on different access network bandwidths, ranging from 75 kbps to 30 Mbps. The survey results indicate that Netflix QoS and streaming behavior are significantly consistent followed by Amazon Prime and YouTube. Our approach can be used to compare and contrast the streaming services' strategies and finetune their ABR and flow control mechanisms.

For spacecraft attitude control, reaction wheel (RW) steering laws with more than three wheels for three-axis attitude control can be derived by using a control allocation (CA) approach.1-2 The CA technique deals with a problem of distributing a given control demand to available sets of actuators.3-4 There are many references for CA with applications to aerospace systems. For spacecraft, the control torque command for three body-fixed reference frames can be constructed by a combination of multiple wheels, usually four-wheel pyramid sets. Multi-wheel configurations can be exploited to satisfy a body-axis control torque requirement while satisfying objectives such as minimum control energy.1-2 In general, the reaction wheel steering laws determine required torque command for each wheel in the form of matrix pseudo-inverse. In general, the attitude control command is generated in the form of a feedback control. The spacecraft body angular rate measured by gyros is used to estimate angular displacement also.⁵ Combination of the body angular rate and attitude parameters such as quaternion and MRPs(Modified Rodrigues Parameters) is typically used in synthesizing the control command which should be produced by RWs.¹ The attitude sensor signals are usually corrupted by noise; gyros tend to contain errors such as drift and random noise. The attitude determination system can estimate such errors, and provide best true signals for feedback control.⁶ Even if the attitude determination system, for instance, sophisticated algorithm such as the EKF(Extended Kalman Filter) algorithm⁶, can eliminate the errors efficiently, it is quite probable that the control command still contains noise sources. The noise and/or other high frequency components in the control command would cause the wheel speed to change in an undesirable manner. The closed-loop system, governed by the feedback control law, is also directly affected by the noise due to imperfect sensor characteristics. The noise components in the sensor signal should be mitigated so that the control command is isolated from the noise effect. This can be done by adding a filter to the sensor output or preventing rapid change in the control command. Dynamic control allocation(DCA), recently studied by Härkegård, is to distribute the control command in the sense of dynamics⁴: the allocation is made over a certain time interval, not a fixed time instant. The dynamic behavior of the control command is taken into account in the course of distributing the control command. Not only the control command requirement, but also variation of the control command over a sampling interval is included in the performance criterion to be optimized. The result is a control command in the form of a finite difference equation over the given time interval.⁴ It results in a filter dynamics by taking the previous control command into account for the synthesis of current control command. Stability of the proposed dynamic control allocation (CA) approach was proved to ensure the control command is bounded at the steady-state. In this study, we extended the results presented in Ref. 4 by adding a two-step dynamic CA term in deriving the control allocation law. Also, the strict equality constraint, between the virtual and actual control inputs, is relaxed in order to construct control command with a smooth profile. The proposed DCA technique is applied to a spacecraft attitude control problem. The sensor noise and/or irregular signals, which are existent in most of spacecraft attitude sensors, can be handled effectively by the proposed approach.
In wireless sensor networks, clustering protocol such as LEACH is an efficient method to increase whole networks lifetime. However, this protocol result in high energy consumption at the cluster head node. Hence, this protocol must changes the cluster formation and cluster head node in each round to prolong the network lifetime. But this method also causes a high amount of energy consumption during the set-up process of cluster formation. In order to improve energy efficiency, in this paper, we propose a new cluster formation algorithm. In this algorithm, we define a intra cluster as the sensor nodes within close proximity of each other. In a intra cluster, a node senses and transmits data at a time on the round-robin basis. In a view of whole network, intra cluster is treated as one node. During the setup phase of a round, intra clusters are formed first and then they are re-clustered(network cluster) by choosing cluster-heads(intra clusters). In the intra cluster with a cluster-head, every member node plays the role of cluster-head on the round-robin basis. Hence, we can lengthen periodic round by a factor of intra cluster size. Also, in the steady-state phase, a node in each intra cluster senses and transmits data to its cluster-head of network cluster on the round-robin basis. As a result of analysis and comparison, our scheme reduces energy consumption of nodes, and improve the efficiency of communications in sensor networks compared with current clustering methods.
Simulated moving bed (SMB) process is a continuous chromatographic technology used to separate a large amount of petrochemicals, fine chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and so on, drawing a great attraction of related industries. With the recent development of biotechnology, the SMB process has been adopted for the separation of various useful bio-products. Attempts to understand the separation mechanism of the SMB process in many aspects are reported in many publications. These researches have dealt with the improvement of SMB for easier operation and solving problem in process. The feed mixture fed into the SMB process may be of different concentration batch by batch rather than in uniform concentration. Retention behaviors of feed (psicose (A) and fructose (B) mixture) existing in the SMB unit in dynamic steady-state and feed (psicose (C) and fructose (D) mixture) newly injected into the SMB were analyzed. It was observed that the existing components, (A) and (B), were eluted relatively faster as the injection time of new feed was earlier during the port-switching period. In addition, the components (C) and (D) were eluted earlier as fresh feed was injected earlier in a port-switching time.

Background and Objectives: We aim to explore the effects of residual auditory steady state response (ASSR) on cochlear implantation (CI) outcomes in children lacking auditory brainstem responses (ABRs). Subjects and Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the data of child CI recipients lacking ABRs. All ears were divided into two groups: with residual ASSR and without ASSR. For each frequency, the T- and C-levels and the electrical dynamic ranges of postoperative 3-month and 1-year mappings were compared between the groups. To evaluate speech perception, patients who received simultaneous bilateral CIs were divided into two groups: group 1 exhibited responses at all frequencies in both ears; in group 2, at least one ear evidenced no response. The Categories of Auditory Perception (CAP) and Infant-Toddler Meaningful Auditory Integration Scale (IT-MAIS) scores were compared between the groups. Results: We enrolled 16 patients. At 2 kHz, the postoperative 3-month and 1-year T-levels of patients with residual hearing were lower than those of hearing loss group (p=0.001, p=0.035). In residual hearing group, the ASSR threshold correlated positively with the postoperative 1-year T-level (p=0.012, R2=0.276) and C-level (p=0.002, R2=0.374). Of 10 simultaneous bilateral CI recipients, 5 exhibited ASSRs at all frequencies and the other 5 showed no response at ≥1 frequency. The latter had higher CAP scores at the postoperative 1-year (p=0.018). Conclusions: In children exhibiting hearing loss in ABR testing, residual hearing at 2 kHz ASSR correlated positively with the post-CI T-level. Those with ASSRs at all frequencies had significantly lower CAP scores at the postoperative 1year. CI should not be delayed when marginal residual hearing is evident in ASSR.

This paper is on the modeling of two-dimensional groundwater flow, which is the first step of the development of Dynamic System Model for groundwater flow and pollutant transport in subsurface porous media. The particular features of the model are its versatility and flexibility to deal with as many real-world problems as possible. Points as well as distributed sources/sinks are included to represent recharges/pumping and rainfall infiltrations. All sources/sinks can be transient or steady state. Prescribed hydraulic head on the Dirichlet boundaries and fluxes on Neumann or Cauchy boundaries can be time-dependent or constant. Sources/sinks strength over each element and node, hydraulic head at each Dirichlet boundary node and flux at each boundary segment can vary independently of each other. Either completely confined or completely unconfined aquifers, or partially confined and partially unconfined aquifers can be dealt with effectively. Discretization of a compound region with very irregular curved boundaries is made easy by including both quadrilateral and triangular elements in the formulation. Large-field problems can be solved efficiently by including a pointwise iterative solution strategy as an optional alternative to the direct elimination solution methed for the matrix equation approximating the partial differential equation of groundwater flow. The model also includes transient flow through confining leaky aquifers lying above and/or below the aquifer of interest. The model is verified against three simple cases to which analytical solutions are available. The groundwater flow model shall be combined with the model of pollutant transport in subsurface porous media. Then the combined model, with the applications of the Eigenvalue technique and the Dynamic system theory, shall be improved to the Dynamic System Model which can simulate the real groundwater flow and the pollutant transport accurately and effectively for the analyses and predictions.
