Most metallic materials and alloys show rate independence or negative rate sensitivity in some temperature region when dynamic strain aging occurs. It is generally recognized that negative rate sensitivity is an essential feature of dynamic strain aging that can depend on strain and/or strain rate. The unified viscoplasticity theory based on overstress is applied to reproduce a change of rate sensitivity type that depends on strain or strain rate. This is accomplished through the introduction of a single new term in the growth law of the equilibrium stress, which is a tensor valued state variable of the model. It is also shown that the new term can be used to reproduce a dramatic increase of rate sensitivity in dynamic plasticity.

A great deal of effert has been invested in upgrading the performance and the efficiency of mechanical structures. Using experimental modal analysis(EMA) or finite element analysis(FEA) data of mechanical structures, this performance and efficiency can be effectively evaluated. In order to analyze complex structures such as automobiles and aircraft, for the sake of computing efficiency, the dynamic substructuring techniques that allow to predict the dynamic behavior of a structure based on that of the composing structures, are widely used. By llinking a modal model obtained from EMA and an analytical model obtained from FEA, the best conditioned structures can be desinged. In this paper, a new algorithm for structural dynamic modification-SRFSM (substructure response function sensitivity method) is proposed by linking frequency responce function synthesis and response function sensitivity. A mehtod to obtain response function sensitivity using direct derivative of mechanical impedance, is also used.

In this study, a sensitivity formulation was applied to analyze the dynamic response due to the effect of the excitation force for the undamped vibration of the cantilever beam. The theoretically fundamental formulations were derived considering an eigenvalue problem and its modal analysis to govern the second order algebraic differential equation in terms of the change in the modal coordinate with respect to the design parameters. A representative physical quantity pertaining to the dynamic response, that is, the rate of change in the dynamic displacement, was observed by changing the design variables, such as the cross-sectional area of the beam. The numerical results were obtained at various locations, considering the application of the external forces and observation of the dynamic displacement. When the detection position was closer to the free end of the cantilever beam, the sensitivity of the dynamic displacement was higher, as predicted through the oscillating motion of the beam. The presented findings can provide guidance to compute the dynamic sensitivity for a flexibly connected structure under dynamic excitations.

In order to design the hull form of an underwater vehicle in the conceptual design phase, the dynamic characteristics depending on the hull form parameters should be identified. Course-keeping stability, turning ability, yaw-checking ability, and mission competence are set to be the indices of the dynamic characteristics, and the geometric parameters for the bare hull and rudder are set to be the hull form design parameters. The total sensitivity of the dynamic characteristics with respect to the hull form parameters is calculated by the chain rule of the partial sensitivity of the dynamic characteristics with respect to the hydrodynamic coefficients, and the partial sensitivity of the hydrodynamic coefficients with respect to the hull form parameters. Based on the sensitivity analysis, important hull form parameters are selected, and those optimal values to satisfy the required intercept time of mission competence of a specific underwater vehicle and turning rate are estimated.

This paper describes the time rate of change of dynamic response of a cantilever beam inserted with a damping element, such as bonding, which is excited under a general force at various locations. A sensitivity analysis was performed in a finite element model to show that two types of second-order algebraic governing equations were used to predict the rate of change of dynamic displacement: one is related to the modal coordinate linked to a physical coordinate, and the other to the design parameter of the time rate of change of displacement. The sensitivity differential equation formulation includes more complicated terms compared with that of the undamped cantilever beam. The sensitivities of the dynamic response were observed by changing the location of the excitation force, displacement extraction, and cross-sectional area of the beam. The analytical results obtained by this suggested theory showed a relatively good agreement when compared with those obtained using the commercial finite element program. The suggested analysis procedure enables the prediction of the response sensitivity for any finite element model of the dynamic system.
Conventional CMOS image sensors (CISs) have a trade-off relationship between dynamic range and sensitivity. In addition, their sensitivity is determined by the photodiode capacitance. In this paper, CISs that consist of dual-sensitivity photodiodes in a unit pixel are proposed for achieving wide dynamic ranges. In the proposed CIS, signal charges are generated in the dual photodiodes during integration, and these generated signal charges are accumulated in the floating-diffusion node. The signal charges generated in the high-sensitivity photodiodes are transferred to the input of the comparator through an additional source follower, and the signal voltages converted by the source follower are compared with a reference voltage in the comparator. The output voltage of the comparator determines which photodiode is selected. Therefore, the proposed CIS composed of dual-sensitivity photodiodes extends the dynamic range according to the intensity of light. A $94{\times}150$ pixel array image sensor was designed using a conventional $0.18{\mu}m$ CMOS process and its performance was simulated.
The research and applications of numerical methods of design optimization on structural dynamic behaviors are presented in this paper. The emphasis is focused on the dynamic design optimization of aerospace structures, particularly those composed of composite laminate and sandwich plates. The methods of design modeling, sensitivity analysis on structural dynamic responses, and the optimization solution approaches are presented. The numerical examples of sensitivity analysis and dynamic structural design optimization are given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the numerical methods.

In the area of assembly process of micro-chips and electronic parts on the printed circuit board, surface mounting device(SMD) is used as a fundamental tool. Generally speaking, the motion of the SMD is based on the ball screw system operated by any type of actuators. The ball screw system is a mechanical transformer which converts the mechanical rotational motion to the translational one. Also, this system could be considered as an efficient motion device against mechanical backash and friction. Therefore a dynamic modeling and stste sensitivity analysis of the ball screw system in SMD have to be done in the initial design stage. In this paper, a simple mathematical dynamic model for this system and the sensitivity snalysis are mentioned. Especially, the bond graph approach is used for graphical modeling of the dynamic system before analysis stage. And the direct differentiation method is used for the state sensitivity analysis of the system. Finally, some trends for the state variables with respect to the design variables could be suggested for the better design based on the results on the results of dynamic and state sensitivity.

The present paper investigates methods to control dynamic stall using an optimal approach. An unsteady aerodynamic sensitivity analysis code is developed by a direct differentiation method from a two-dimensional unsteady compressible Navier-Stokes solver including a two-equation turbulence model. Dynamic stall control is conducted by minimizing an objective function defined at an instant instead of integrating for a period of time. Unsteady sensitivity derivatives of the objective function are calculated by the sensitivity code, and optimization is carried out using a linear line search method at every physical time step. Numerous examples of dynamic stall control using control parameters such as nose radius, maximum thickness of airfoil, or suction show satisfactory results.

In this Paper, the dynamic temperature sensitivity and mu. temperature measurement errors of oil and air sensor in oil cooler are evaluated to predict design validity of sensors under special oil and atmosphere temperature changes. The temperature tracking of oil sensors for periodic temperature changes is simulated by obtaining thermal response coefficient from experiment. By this method, it is possible to design the optimal sensors with the admitted temperature measurement errors.
