  • In this paper, the dynamic performance of oscillating linear motors, which are used in household refrigerators, is improved by means of efficient parameter identification. Oscillating linear motor parameters are identified as a function of the piston position and the motor current. They are stored in a ROM table and used later for an accurate estimation of piston position. The identified motor parameters are also approximated to the $2^{nd}$-order surface functions, which are divided into 2 or 4 subsections in order to decrease identification errors. Experimental results are given to show that the proposed control scheme can provide oscillating linear motors with high dynamic performance.

  • The rolling-stocks on conventional line have suffered wheel problems due to the incompatibility between wheel and track condition. Especially, The 1:40 coned wheel profile's wear is very severe and these increase wheel maintenance cost. Thus we designed several arc-type wheel profiles coned 1:/20 to reduce the wheel flange wear and analyzed the dynamic performance of designed profiles. Tests carried out in service line to analyse the dynamic performance and verify the wear reduction for two cases of profiles. Test results shows the equal level of dynamic performance and the improvement of wheel flange wear compared with the conical wheel profile coned 1:40.

  • In this study, a robust controller to control pressure in a pneumatic pressure vessel considering dynamic characteristics of pneumatic transmission line is proposed. Dynamic characteristics of transmission line using compressible fluid is changed by the flowing states of the fluid. So, if the fixed gain controller is designed based on a fixed model, the performance of the control system could be destabilized or degraded. The controller designed in this study is composed of two parts. The one is to reject modelling error based on the disturbance observer, the other is to obtain the control performance. The control results with the designed controller show that the robustness of the control system is achieved regardless of the change of the model of the transmission line. Therefore, the designed controller can be utilized for the performance improvement of the pressure control system using compressible fluid such as air and gas

  • Human sensibility ergonomics is applied to evaluation of dynamic performance of a vehicle driving simulator. Vehicle, driving environment, and human perception models are constructed and integrated. Driving simulations are carried out based on these models. This study defines a set verbal expressions collected and investigates which are the most appropriate for describing the fidelity of translational and angular accelerations of the driving simulator. An statistical analysis is uscd to find correlation between the ergonomic sensibility and the cut-off frequency of the washout algorithm. This study suggests a methodology to obtain an ergonomic database which can be used for the performance evaluation of dynamic environments.

  • The international standard, ISO-11783, was designed for the communication within an agriculture machinery. Even if it is based on the CAN (Control Area Network) protocol, its extended features which include point-to-point communication and large data transmission support show different network performance from the standard CAN. This paper proposes a dynamic priority allocation method to improve the real-time performance of ISO-11783. Computer simulation shows reduction of the deadline-missed cases and community latency via proposed algorithm.

  • In this paper, we propose a dynamic code allocation strategy using voice activity detection and evaluate the performance of a dynamic code allocation strategy using voice activeity detection in DS-CDMA system. Proposed method allocates code to mobile terminal according to the residual capacity computed by SIR in the base station. In hot spot traffic loading cell, we find that the performance of proposed method is better than that of a fixed code assignment strategy using voice activity detection. Also, we find that the proposed method provide much improvement in blocking probability against the dynamic code assignment strategy withoug voice activity detection.

  • The dynamic cast operation allows flexibility in the design and use of data management facilities in object-oriented programs. Dynamic cast has an important role in the implementation of the Data Management Services (DMS) of the Mission Data System Project (MDS), the Jet Propulsion Laboratory's experimental work for providing a state-based and goal-oriented unified architecture for testing and development of mission software. DMS is responsible for the storage and transport of control and scientific data in a remote autonomous spacecraft. Like similar operators in other languages, the C++ dynamic cast operator does not provide the timing guarantees needed for hard real-time embedded systems. In a recent study, Gibbs and Stroustrup (G&S) devised a dynamic cast implementation strategy that guarantees fast constant-time performance. This paper presents the definition and application of a cosimulation framework to formally verify and evaluate the G&S fast dynamic casting scheme and its applicability in the Mission Data System DMS application. We describe the systematic process of model-based simulation and analysis that has led to performance improvement of the G&S algorithm's heuristics by about a factor of 2. In this work we introduce and apply a library for extracting semantic information from C++ source code that helps us deliver a practical and verifiable implementation of the fast dynamic casting algorithm.

  • This paper assesses the suitability of existing standards for plastic material models and performance level evaluation methods in seismic performance evaluations of concrete dam piers during Maximum Credible Earthquakes (MCE). Dynamic plastic analysis was conducted to examine the applicability of the plastic material model under various conditions. As a result reveal that when the minimum reinforcement ratio is not met, the average stress-average strain method recommended in current dam seismic performance evaluation guidelines tends to underestimate pier responses compared to the predicted outcomes of dynamic elastic analysis. Consequently, the paper proposes an improvement plan that treats dam piers with an insufficient minimum reinforcement ratio as unreinforced and integrates fracture energy into concrete tensile behavior characteristics for performance level evaluation. Implementing these improvements can lead to more conservative evaluation outcomes compared to current seismic performance evaluation methods.

  • This paper presents a direct instantaneous torque control (DITC) of Switched Reluctance Motor (SRM) with a novel 4-level converter to develop a uniform torque and to improve a dynamic performance. The DITC method can reduce a high torque ripple of SRM. Drive efficiency and dynamic performance with conventional drive are low due to a slow excitation current build-up. Since the 4-level converter can obtain an addition boosted voltage to have a fast excitation and demagnetization, it can Improve dynamic performance and efficiency easily. To apply the DITC technique to a 4-level converter, a novel control scheme is presented according to the operating modes. Additionally, selection of capacitances of boosted capacitor and efficiency improvement of 4-level converter are analyzed. At last, the validity of proposed method is verified by some computer simulations md comparative experiments.

  • The George Massey immersed tunnel passes the Fraser River near Vancouver, Western Canada. In this paper, dynamic analysis of the tunnel on sandy soils was performed using an effective stress constitutive model called UBCSAND. This model is able to calculate pore pressure rise and resulting tunnel deformation due to cyclic loading. Centrifuge tests conducted at RPI are used to verify the model performance. Centrifuge tests consist of 3 models: Model 1 is designed for an original ground condition, Model 2 for a ground improvement by compaction method, Model 3 for a ground improvement by gravel drainage. The results of centrifuge Model 1 are presented and compared with predictions of UBCSAND model. This model well captured the results of centrifuge test and therefore can be used to predict dynamic behavior of similar tunnels or underground structures on sandy soils.
