  • In this paper, we present the performance of a multi-code parallel combinatory CDMA system using bi-orthogonal modulation under multipath fading channel. In general, the dynamic range of the amplitude of the transmit signal is very large in conventional multi-code CDMA systems, resulting in severe nonlinear distortion due to high power amplifier and thus significant BER performance degradation. Since the number of simultaneously multiplexed code channels in the proposed system is reduced, the proposed system exhibits reduction of peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) of the transmit signal amplitude with significant BER improvement. We verify the performance of the proposed system by computer simulations under the Vehicular B multipath fading channel model by ARIB.

  • Fluttering ghost which is the most severs picture impairment in mobile TV reception under multipath fading environments can be detected by measuring the dynamic variation of the synchronizing pulse timing. And also, the occurrence-stucture of fluttering ghost are directly correlated with the multipath parameters. This paper describes the quantitative evaluating method of the mobile TV pictures impaired by multipath parameters by means of the spectral analysis of synchronizing timing fluctuation. The ghost-flutter curve derived from the spatial amplitue spectrum of synchronizing pulse timing fluctuation express well the spatial variation characteristic, and it has been found to be the quantitative evaluating measure of picture impairment in mobile reception. A correspondence between the ghost-flutter curve (and/or index) and picture quality opinion test results is established.

  • We propose a new multipath-based reliable routing protocol on MANETs, Multipath-based Reliable routing protocol with Fast-Recovery of failures (MRFR). For reliable message transmission, MRFR tries to find the most reliable path between a source and a destination considering the end-to-end packet reception reliability of the routes. The established path consists of a primary path that is used to transmit messages, and the secondary paths that are used to recover the path when detecting failures on the primary path. After establishing the path, the source transmits messages through the primary path. If a node detects a link failure during message transmission, it can recover the path locally by switching from the primary to the secondary path. By allowing the intermediate nodes to locally recover the route failure, the proposed protocol can handle the dynamic topological change of the MANETs efficiently. The simulation result using the QualNet simulator shows that the MRFR protocol performs better than other protocols in terms of the end-to-end message delivery ratio and fault-tolerance capability.

  • MANET(Mobile Ad hoc Network) is a collection of two or more nodes equipped with wireless communications and constrained by the factor of energy limitation. The running out of energy on some nodes may bring down the performance of network seriously. For solving the problems above, this paper uses completely separated Node-Disjoint multipaths from a source to a destination as many as possible. And, based on average, minimum or variance of energy values on the each multipath, the packets are distributed on paths. Generally, collecting methods for energy information can be classified into two main categories, Static and Dynamic. As the different energy values collected, the packet distribution methods are classified into six criteria, Static-Average, Static-Minimum, Static-Variance, Dynamic-Average, Dynamic-Minimum and Dynamic-Variance respectively. The performance of the packet distribution methods and that of AODV are compared by NS2 simulation.

  • In this paper, we propose an energy entropy based multipath routing protocol using dynamic forwarding range in mobile ad-hoc wireless sensor networks. The main features and contributions of the proposed routing protocol are as follows. First, can select stable routing routes by using the calculated route entropy based on energy information of sensor nodes. Second, using dynamic forwarding range based on the route stability of route entropy can reduce energy, control overhead, delay for route establishment, finally improve data transmission efficiency. The performance evaluation using OPNET shows that the proposed routing protocol can efficiently support PDR.

  • Fixed robust routing is attracting attention as routing that achieves high robustness against changes in traffic patterns without conducting traffic measurement and performing dynamic route changes. Fixed robust routing minimizes the worst-case maximum link load by distributing traffic of every source-destination (s-d) router pair onto multiple candidate paths (multipath routing). Multipath routing, however, can result in performance degradation of Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) because of frequent out-of-order packet arrivals. In this paper, we first investigate the influence of multipath routing on TCP performance under fixed robust routing with a simulation using ns-2. The simulation results clarify that TCP throughput greatly degrades with multipath routing. We next propose a candidate path selection method to improve TCP throughput while suppressing the worst-case maximum link load to less than the allowed level under fixed robust routing. The method selects a single candidate path for each of a predetermined ratio of s-d router pairs in order to avoid TCP performance degradation, and it selects multiple candidate paths for each of the other router pairs in order to suppress the worst-case maximum link load. Numerical examples show that, provided the worst-case maximum link load is less than 1.0, our proposed method achieves about six times the TCP throughput as the original fixed robust routing.

  • In this paper, proposed is the dual-mode algorithm of blind decision feedback equalizer (DFE) for digital terrestrial television signals. According to channel impairments, the proposed dual-mode algorithm for blind DFE operates in decision-directed mode or in blind mode of operation. The error signals being used in tap update of the equalizer are generated in the best mode of operations, so that the confidence of equalizer tap coefficient update is more accurate. As a result, it is possible to track the channel characteristics variations by automatic switching over between two modes of operations. For 8-level vestigial sideband modulated digital television signals, the mean square errors and symbol error rates of the proposed algorithm are compared with those of conventional methods. And the usability of the proposed scheme is assessed by computer simulations under various static and dynamic multipath channel environments.

  • A guard-band is used to prevent collision between paths in multipath routing protocols. However, problems such as traffic congestion, reduced lifetime, and void occurrence arise because existing protocols do not exploit the guard-band during packet transmission, but only transfer packets on the same path. To solve these problems, we propose radio-disjoint multipath routing that consists of guard-band shifting and balanced node selection. The proposed scheme transfers a packet on the constructed path and alternatively, into the guard-band area. In addition, the intermediate node is selected according to link quality and remaining energy, so all of the nodes involving packet transmission can be exploited equally. Through a performance evaluation, we demonstrate that the proposed scheme achieves a higher packet delivery ratio and prolongs the average network lifetime by at least 31% and up to approximately 99% compared with existing routing protocols, under the condition of a 90% link success ratio.

  • Telemetry link is dynamic communication link that antenna gain and polarization are varying with the movement of the airplane. In this paper we calculated the antenna gain, polarization mismatch using the flight trajectory, motion of the airplane and 3D antenna pattern. And we modeled the multipath environment to the 2-Ray spherical earth reflection geometry, estimated the received signal strength when the narrow beam antenna received the RF signal transmitted from the airplane. Also we performed the flight test and after comparing measured value with the estimated value, we confirmed to almost coincide with each other.
