  • The modal analysis based on deformations is the method to drived dynamic responsed from superposition of natural frequency and mode shape. In order to free vibration analysis of the structures, Aluminum-made model is used in experiment. The dynamic characteristic of the structures are determined from acceleration measurements using impulse hammer. Experimenrt input and output signal are derive from impact hammer and the one accerometer. This paper present three methods for calculating the natural frequencies and mode shapes of the structure with theory value and finite element analysis, experiment. The results were good approximated about natural frequency and mode shape.

  • In this study, modal parameters such as natural frequencies, mode shapes and damping ratios of RC frames with low strength are determined for different construction stages using ambient vibration test. For this purpose full scaled, one bay and one story RC frames are produced and tested for plane, brick in-filled and brick in-filled with plaster conditions. Measurement time, frequency span and effective mode number are determined by considering similar studies and literature. To obtain experimental dynamic characteristics, Enhanced Frequency Domain Decomposition and Stochastic Subspace Identification techniques are used together. It is shown that the ambient vibration measurements are enough to identify the most significant modes of RC frames. The results indicate that modal parameters change significantly depending on the construction stages. In addition, Infill walls increase stiffness and change the mode shapes of the RC frame. There is a good agreement between mode shapes obtained from brick in-filled and in-filled with plaster conditions. However, some differences are seen in plane frame, like expected. Dynamic characteristics should be verified using finite element analysis. Finally, inconsistency between experimental and analytical dynamic characteristics should be minimize by finite element model updating using some uncertain parameters such as material properties, boundary condition and section properties to reflect the current behavior of the RC frames.

  • In the previous study, a simple but effective analysis procedure, named as an Improved Modal Pushover Analysis (IMPA) was proposed to estimates the seismic capacities of multi-span continuous bridge structures, on the basis of the modal pushover analysis which considers all the dynamic modes of a structure. Differently from other previous studies, IMPA maintains the simplicity of the capacity-demand curve method and also gives a better estimation of the maximum dynamic response of a structure. Nevertheless, its applicability has never been approved for multi-span continuous bridges with large differences in the length of their adjacent piers. This paper, accordingly, concentrates on a parametric study to verify the efficiency and limitation in application of IMPA through a correlation study between various analytical models including the Equivalent Single Degree Of Freedom (ESDOF) and Modal Pushover Analysis (MPA) usually used in the seismic design of structures. Based on the obtained numerical results, this paper introduces a practical guidance and/or limitation for using IMPA to predict the seismic response of a bridge effectively.

  • Modal parameter identification has received much attention recently for their usefulness in earthquake engineering, damage detection and structural health monitoring. The identification method based on Matrix Pencil technique is adopted in this paper to identify structural modal parameters, such as natural frequencies, damping ratios and modal shapes using impulse vibration responses. This method can also be applied to dynamic responses induced by stationary and white-noise inputs since the auto- and cross-correlation function of the two outputs has the same form as the impulse response dynamic functions. Matrix Pencil method is very robust to noise contained in the measurement data. It has a lower variance of estimates of the parameters of interest than the Polynomial Method, and is also computationally more efficient. The numerical simulation results show that this technique can identify modal parameters accurately even if the noise level is high.

  • This paper presents an experimental modal analysis of a caisson-type breakwater to produce basic information for the structural health assessment of a caisson structure. To achieve the objective, the following approaches are implemented. First, modal analysis methods are selected to examine the modal characteristics of a caisson structure. Second, experimental modal analyses are performed using finite element analyses and lab-scale model tests. Third, damage scenarios that include several damage levels in a foundation-structure interface are designed. Finally, the effects of damage on the modal characteristics are analyzed for the purpose of utilizing them for damage identification.

  • The set of processes performed to determine the dynamic characteristics of the constructed structures is named experimental modal analysis. Using experimental modal analysis and interpreting its results, structural failure can be assessed and then it would be possible to plan for their repair and maintenance. The purpose of the experimental modal analysis is to determine the resonance frequencies, mode shapes and Mode damping for the structure. Diverse methods for determining the shape of the mode by various researchers have been presented. There are pros and cons for each of these methods. This paper presents a method for determining the mode shape of the structures using the response spectrum in the experimental modal analysis. In the first part, the principles of the proposed method are described. Then, to check the accuracy of the results obtained from the proposed method, single and multiple degrees of freedom models were numerically and experimentally investigated.

  • A machining center is a complex dynamic system whose behavior influences the machining stability and machined surface quality. This paper focused on establishment of a measurement system and experimental study on static, dynamic, and modal analysis of a machining center. The dynamic stiffness result by the analysis showed the weak part of the machining center. The results provided structure modification data for getting better dynamic behaviors.

A detailed mathematical model of wind turbine, DFIG machine and converters and SDBR is presented in this paper to derive the complete dynamic equations of the studied system. Small signal stability of this system is carried out by modal and sensitivity analysis, participation factors and eigenvalue analysis. Finally, this paper presents an analysis of the dynamic behavior of DFIG based wind farm under voltage dip condition with and without SDBR.
