  • For seismic response analysis of rockfill dam, dynamic material properties, by field test, are needed. Density and elastic wave profiles have to be known to get an information of the material properties of structure. In this study, various field tests are applied to the example of rockfill dam to get an information of dynamic material properties and seismic safety is evaluated by seismic response analysis with the result of field tests.

  • In this work, the dynamic properties of a high performance concrete containing glass powder (GP) was studied. The GP is a new cementitious material obtained by recycling waste glass presenting pozzolanic activity. This eco-friendly material was incorporated in concrete mixes by replacing 20 and 30% of cement. The mechanical properties of building materials highly affect the response of the structure under dynamic actions. First, the resonant vibration frequencies were measured on concrete plate with free boundary conditions after 14, 28 and 90 curing days by using an alternative vibration monitoring technique. This technique measures the average frequencies of several excitations done at different points of the plate. This approach takes into account the heterogeneity of a material like concrete. So, the results should be more precise and reliable. For measuring the bending and torsion resonant frequencies, as well as the damping ratio. The dynamic properties of material such as dynamic elastic modulus and dynamic shear modulus were determined by modelling the plate on the finite element software ANSYS. Also, the instantaneous aroused frequency method and ultrasound method were used to determine the dynamic elastic modulus for comparison purpose, with the results obtained from vibration monitoring technique.

  • Most previous wave tests for concrete have been done to evaluate static material properties, and thus there are less works to investigate dynamic material characteristics of concrete, which should be few in Korea. The objective of this experimental work is to investigate dynamic material characteristics of concrete, such as dynamic elastic modulus, dynamic shear modulus, first resonant frequency, dynamic poisson's ratio and etc. A dynamic Signal Analyzer has been used to perform the wave analysis for various dynamic material properties of test specimen. First Fourier transform technique has been carried out on various wave data acquired by the Resonant Column method, which is a kind of nondestructive tests. Wave analysis has been performed based on KS F2437, which is similar to ASTM C607-71 and is identical to JIS A 1127-1976.

  • Dynamic properties of hydraulic mechanically stabilized slag(HMS25) was studied for utilizing it as a roadbed material. HMS25 is a by product material during pig iron production process. It has a very good potential application as a roadbed material. Therefore, the resonant column and torsional shear tests were carried out to evaluate the dynamic properties of HMS25 which are necessary for designing roadbed of railroad track. As a result, it was found that HMS25 has excellent dynamic properties required for roadbed material used in railroad track.

  • In this study, seismic refraction survey and MASW at dam crest and down-hole test and cross hole test in the boring holes located in dam crest through the core are performed to fin out dynamic material properties, are needed to evaluate dynamic safety of rockfill dam using dynamic analysis method. From the field test and geophysical exploration, applied such as above, p-wave and s-wave velocity profile of each layer of dam body. Dynamic material properties, such as elastic modulus, shear modulus, poissong's ration, are obtained from p-wave and s-wave velocity profile and density profile from formation density logging test.

  • The effect of static preload on the dynamic properties of rubber materials is rather important, especially when good isolation characteristics are required at high frequencies. However, there are still few papers for dynamic characteristics of compressed rubber components. It was demonstrated in reference (4) that for bonded rubber material of a cylindrical shape, a simplified theory equation between linear dynamic and nonlinear static behavior of rubber material was useful to predict their combined effects. This paper presents the second part of the study. It is confirmed that for the compressed rubber material, the stress can be factored into a function of frequency and a function of strain(stretch). The finite element methodis applied to analyze non-linear large deformation of rubber material and its results are compared with those of a simplified theory equation. The predicted dynamic material properties based on non-linear static finite element analyses have a good agreement of experimental results and those based on simplified theory equation.

  • Numerical analysis and dynamic material properties are required to analyze the behavior of workpiece during an electrohydraulic forming (EHF) process. In this study, EHF experiments were conducted under three conditions (6, 7, 8 kV). Dynamic material properties of Al 5052-H34 were inversely estimated through an ANN (Artificial Neural Network) model constructed based on LS-Dyna analysis results. Parameters of Cowper-Symonds constitutive equation, C and p, were used to implement dynamic material properties. By comparing experimental results of three conditions with ANN model results, optimized parameters were obtained. To determine the reliability of the derived parameters, experimental results, LS-Dyna analysis results, and ANN results of three conditions were compared using MSE and SMAPE. Valid parameters were obtained because values of indicators were within confidence intervals.

  • A core zone of a fill dam is an important part of a dam for cutoff of water. Therefore, the material properties and behavior characteristics of a core zone are very important factors in an analysis of dam stability. However, the investigation on material properties of actual dam core is extremely rare so far. The material properties have been acquired or estimated by indirect methods like a surface wave surveying or empirical equation. In this research, in-situ and laboratory tests were conducted during dismantling an existing dam directly to investigate characteristics of the core zone in terms of the depth and transient variation of properties after construction of the dam. Dynamic material properties like shear wave velocity and shear modulus were measured and compared to other existing empirical correlations. In addition, aging characteristics of dynamic material properties were investigated by a series of laboratory tests.

  • INCONEL 718, nickel based superalloy, has good formability, high strength, excellent corrosion resistance and mechanical properties at high temperature. Owing to theses attractive properties, it finds use in applications such as combustion system, turbine engines and nuclear reactors. In such applications, components are typically required to be tolerant of high stress impact loading. This may cause material degradation and lead to catastrophic failure during service operation. In order to design optimal structural parts made of INCONEL 718, accurate understanding of material's mechanical properties, dynamic behavior and fracture characteristic as a function of strain rates are required. This paper concerned with the dynamic material properties of the INCONEL 718 for the various strain rates. The dynamic response of the INCONEL 718 at intermediate strain rate is obtained from the high speed tensile test machine test and at the high strain rate is from the split Hopkinson pressure bar test. Based on the experimental results, the effects of strain rate on dynamic flow stress, work hardening characteristics, strain rate sensitivity and elongation to the failure are evaluated. Experimental results from both quasi-static and high strain rate up to the 5000/sec are interpolated in order to construct the Johnson-Cook model as the constitutive relation that should be applied to simulate and design the structural parts made of INCONEL 718.

  • Recently, high performance microelectronic devices are designed in multi-layer structure in order to make dense wiring of metal conductors in compact size. Imprint lithography have received significant attention due to an alternative technology for photolithography on such devices. In this work, we synthesized dielectric composite materials based on epoxy resin, and investigated their thermal stabilities and dynamic mechanical properties for thermal imprint lithography. In order to enhance the mechanical properties and toughness of dielectric material, various modified polyetherimide(PEI) was applied in the resin system. Curing behaviours, thermal stabilities, and dynamic mechanical properties of the dielectric materials cured with various conditions were studied using dynamic differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermo gravimetric analysis (TGA), and Universal Test Method (INSTRON).
