The effects on the dynamic behaviour of the geometric nonlinearity and large dynamic tensile forces occurring in hostile sea environments must be investigated for assessing extreme tensions and fatigue life expectancy of cable. In this paper, the combined effects on the cable dynamic responses are shown through comparisons between numerical solutions to the cable dynamic equations with geometric nonlinearity and large tensile force terms as well as nonlinear drag term and those to the cable equations with only nonlinear drag term. It is found that, in steady state, the cambined effects increase the maximum dynamic tension and reduce the magnitude of the minimum of the dynamic tension at the middle of the cable. This decrease together with the increase of the maximum dynamic tension, cause the average tension to become higher and, therefore, it may deteriorate the cable fatigue life.

In this paper vibration and stability analysis of laminated composite shells based on the first order shear deformation theory(FSDT) for two different boundary conditions(clamped-clamped, simply supported) are performed. Structural model of cross-ply symmetric laminated composite cylindrical shells subjected to a combination of magnetic and thermal fields is developed via Hamilton's variational principle. These coupled equations of motion are based on the electromagnetic equations(Faraday, Ampere, Ohm, and Lorenz equations)and thermal equations which are involved in constitutive equations. Extended Galerkin method is adopted to obtain the discretized equations of motion. Variations of dynamic characteristics of composite shells with applied magnetic field, temperature gradient, laminate thickness-ratio and radius ratio for two boundary conditions are investigated and pertinent conclusions are derived.
In this paper, a dynamic analysis of the reciprocating compression mechanism of a small refrigeration compressor is performed. In the problem formulation of the mechanism dynamics, the viscous frictional force between the piston and the cylinder wall is considered in order to determine the coupled dynamic behaviors of the piston and the crankshaft. Simultaneous solutions are obtained for the equations of motion of the reciprocating mechanism and the time-dependent Reynolds equations for the lubricating film between the piston and the cylinder wall and for the oil films on the journal bearings. The hydrodynamic forces of the journal bearings are calculated by using a finite bearing model along with the Gumbel boundary condition. A Newton-Raphson procedure is employed in solving the nonlinear equations for the piston and crankshaft. The developed computer program can be used to calculate the complete trajectories of the piston and the crankshaft as functions of the crank angle under compressor-running conditions. The results explored the effects of the radial clearance of the piston, oil viscosity, and mass and mass moment of inertia of the piston and connecting rod on the stability of the compression mechanism.

Three dimentional unsteady Euler equations are solved and an integration method is presented to predict the dynamic stability derivatives of transonic missiles. Results for the Basic Finner model are compared with several experimental data to vaildate the prediction capability of the present method. The variations of dynamic stability derivatives are discussed with respect to angle of attack, Mach number, and rotation rate. Results show that shock waves between fins enhance the pitch-damping characteristics in transonic region. Results also imply that the Euler equations can give the damping coefficients with comparable accuracy.
In a flexible multi-body dynamic system the typical topological optimization method for structures cannot be directly applied, as the stiffness varies with position. In this paper, the topological optimization of the flexible multi-body dynamic system is converted into structural optimization using the equivalent static load method. First, the actual boundary conditions of the control system and the approximate stiffness curve of the mechanism are obtained from a flexible multi-body dynamical simulation. Second, the finite element models are built using the absolute nodal coordination for different positions according to the stiffness curve. For efficiency, the static reanalysis method is utilized to solve these finite element equilibrium equations. Specifically, the finite element equilibrium equations of key points in the stiffness curve are fully solved as the initial solution, and the following equilibrium equations are solved using a reanalysis method with an error controlled epsilon algorithm. In order to identify the efficiency of the elements, a non-dimensional measurement is introduced. Finally, an improved evolutional structural optimization (ESO) method is used to solve the optimization problem. The presented method is applied to the optimal design of a die bonder. The numerical results show that the presented method is practical and efficient when optimizing the design of the mechanism.
In this paper, a study on the frictional losses and dynamic behaviors of a reciprocating compression mechanism used in small refrigeration compressor is performed. In the problem formulation of the compressor dynamics, the viscous frictional force between piston and cylinder wall is considered in order to determine the coupled dynamic behaviors of piston and crankshaft supported on a thrust ball bearing. The solutions of the equations of motion of the reciprocating mechanism along with the time dependent Reynolds equations for the lubricating film between piston and cylinder wall and lubricant films of the journal bearings are obtained simultaneously. The hydrodynamic forces of journal bearings are calculated using finite bearing model and G$\hat{u}$m-bel boundary condition. And, a Newton-Raphson procedure was employed in solving the nonlinear equations of piston and crankshaft with a thrust ball bearing. The results explored the effects of design parameters on the frictional losses and dynamic stability of the compression mechanism.

Nowadays, the cartridge valve can be controlled proportionally in remote place by adopting proportional solenoid and it becomes widely used as control component in hydraulic systems. Especially, multi stage proportional valve is attractive because it consumes less input power though its characteristics might slightly be defected. But, the system parameter should be carefully chosen to obtain optimistic characteristics. This study concerning three stage proportional throttle control valve is purposed to examine the influences of paameters to the dynamic characteristics. The typical transient and frequency responses of proportional throttle control valve were inspected through the experiments and compared to those derived from the theoritical analyses. And it was confirmed that the analyses are appropriate. Then the influences of various system parameters to the dynamic characteristics were examined by means of simulations. For the analyses, the basic equations derived from lumped model were linearized and the linearized equations were transformed to the transfer functions between inputs and outputs. Then the transient responses and frequency responses were obtained from transfer functions. 1. It is appropriate to estimate the dynamic characteristics of valve which has relatively sophisticated structure by means of system analyses using linearized equations. 2. Though the valve has two pilot stages, fairly good characteristics can be obtained by carefully choosing system parameters. 3. Main valve very quickly follows the movement of second pilot valve when the parameters of main valve(the oil supply passage and discharge passage fpr second pilot valve) are appropriately chosen.
Structural model of laminated composite plate based on the first order shear deformation theory and subjected to a combination of piezoelectric, electromagnetic and thermal fields is established. Coupled equations of motion are derived via Hamilton's principle on the basis of electromagnetic and piezoelectric equations which are involved in constitutive equations. Proportional control and velocity feedback control logics are applied via boundary control moments and forces. Variations of dynamic chasracteristics of composite plate with collocated piezoelectric sensor and actuators, electromagnetic field and temperature gradient are investigated and it reveals that dynamic characteristics of structure can be effectively controlled by utilizing the piezoelectric effect and ply angles of fiber reinforced composites.

Modal analysis or modal test is a routine process to get the modal parameters of a dynamic system. The modal parameters include the natural frequencies, damping ratios and mode shapes. This paper presents a method that can derive the equations of motion for a dynamic system from the modal parameters obtained by the modal analysis or modal test. The present method based on the relation between the eigenvalues and eigenvectors of the state space equation derives the mass, damping and stiffness matrices of the system. The numerical verifications for the simple mass-spring-damper system and the cantilevered beam prove the efficiency and accuracy of the present method.
Using the theory of linear piezoelectricity, the dynamic response of a central crack in a functionally graded piezoelectric ceramic under anti-plane shear impact is analyzed. We assume that the properties of the functionally graded piezoelectric material vary continuously along the thickness. By using the Laplace and Fourier transform, the problem is reduced to two pairs of dual integral equations and then into Fredholm integral equations of the second kind. Numerical values on the dynamic stress intensity factors are presented to show the dependence of the gradient of material properties and electric loading.
