The Effect of the Embedded WGV on the Engine Performance for a 2-liter Turbo-charged Gasoline Engine (2 리터급 터보과급 가솔린 기관에서 내장형 WGV가 기관 성능에 미치는 영향)

  • The turbocharger, to decrease the harmful exhaust gas(CO, HC and etc.) and $CO_2$ emission as well as the increase of the engine output, would be an useful method for engine downsizing. Therefore the thermal endurance of turbine blade, the lubrication of turbine shaft and the engine knock according to the supercharge of the inlet air, had been studied. And there had been much progress in these research tasks to be achieved a breakthrough. But a study on the built-in WGV of a gasoline engine for a passenger car which may effect on the engine performance, is few. In this paper, the effect of the embedded WGV on the engine performance was performed through the endurance test, which was conducted more than 300 hrs using the 4 stroke, 1998 cc, water-cooled engine. To sum up the major results, there were an abrasion in the area of the WGV head edge and the thermal deformation on the WGV head face, These phenomena led to reducing the boost pressure which caused the reduction in the volumetric efficiency of the engine. It resulted in decreasing the engine power gradually during the life cycle of the embedded WGV.

  • The introduction of a diesel engine into the passenger car and light duty applications in the United States involves significant technical challenges for the automotive makers. This paper describes the SCR System optimization procedure for such a diesel engine application to meet Tier2 Bin5 emission regulation. A urea SCR system, a representative $NO_x$ reduction after-treatment technique, is applied to a 3.0 liter diesel engine. To achieve the maximum $NO_x$ reduction performance, the exhaust system layout was optimized using series of the computational fluid dynamics and the urea distribution uniformity test. Furthermore a comprehensive simulation model for the key factors influencing $NO_x$ reduction performance was developed and embedded in the Simulink/Matlab environment. This model was then applied to the urea SCR system and played a key role to shorten the time needed for SCR control parameter calibration. The potential of a urea SCR system for reducing diesel $NO_x$ emission is shown for FTP75 and US06 emission standard test cycle.

Fabrication of MCA Valve For MEMS (MEMS용 적층형 압전밸브의 제작)

  • This paper describes the design, fabrication and characteristics of a piezoelectric valve using MCA(Multilayer ceramic actuator). The MCA valve, which has the buckling effect, consists of three separate structures; MCA, a valve actuator die and an a seat die. The design of the actuator die was done by FEM modeling and displacement measurement, respectively. The valve seat die with 6 trenches was made, and the actuator die, which is driven to MCA under optimized conditions, was also fabricated. After Si-wafer direct bonding between the seat die and the actuator die, MCA was also anodic bonded to the seat/actuator die structure. PDMS sealing pad was fabricated to minimize a leak-rate. It was also bonded to seat die and SUS package. The MCA valve shows a flow rate of 9.13 sccm at a supplied voltage of 100 V with a 50 % duty cycle, maximum non-linearity was 2.24 % FS and leak rate was $3.03{\times}10^{-8}\;pa{\cdot}m^3/cm^2$. Therefore, the fabricated MCA valve is suitable for a variety of flow control equipment, a medical bio-system, automobile and air transportation industry.

  • The sensor network technology for core technology of ubiquitous computing is in the spotlight recently, the research on ubiquitous sensor network is proceeding actively which is composed many different sensor node. One of the important condition for design of sensor node is to extend for network life which is to minimize power-consumption under the limited resources of sensor network. This study suggest routing protocol that was used second level cluster structure to reduce power-consumption of sensor node. the first level use the previous routing protocol under the LEACH, second level decide to transmit or not by comparision of data value for Effective Usage, reduce the unnecessary power-consumption.

  • In this paper, sixth order hannonic injected PWM for improving‘ input CWTent distortion of single switch t three phase boost converter is presented. Peliodic sixth order hmmonic ${\gamma}$oltage is inj<:ded in the control circuit t to var${\gamma}$ the duty ratio of the converter switch within one switching cycle. In the result, the input phase c currents are forced to track the input voltage and an 해most unity power factor is obtained. Expelimental r results are verified by converter operating at 400V /6kW with three phase 140V ~220V input and by C02 arc w welding machine which was nonlinear load with 3 $\phi$ 220V input.

  • This paper presents a new conceptual electromagnetic induction eddy current-based stainless steel plate spiral type heater for heat exchanger or Dual Packs Heater in hot water producer, boiler steamer and super heated steamer, which is more suitable and acceptable for new generation consumer power applications. In addition, all active clamped edge resonant PWM high frequency inverter using trench gate IGBTs power module can operate under a principle oi zero voltage soft communication with PWM is developed and demonstrated for a high efficient Induction heated hot water producer and boiler in the consumer power applications. This consumer induction heater power appliance using active clamp soft switching PWM high frequency inverter is evaluated and discussed on the basis of the simulation and experimental results.

  • To increase therapeutic efficiency and biological safety, it is important to precision control of acoustic output for therapeutic ultrasound equipment. In this paper, the electro-acoustic radiation conductance, one of electroacoustic characteristics of therapeutic ultrasound equipment, was measured by the radiation force balance method according to IEC 61161 standards and the acoustic output was estimated using the electro-acoustic radiation conductance. The estimation of acoustic output was conducted to continuous wave mode and pulse wave mode of duty cycle between 20% and 80%. The differences between prediction values and measurement results are within 5% of measurement uncertainty, which is a reasonably good agreement. The results show that acoustic output controlled by electro-acoustic radiation conductance was found to be an effective method.

  • In this paper a new asymmetrical PWM bidirectional half bridge converter is proposed. The proposed converter has simple structure and wide duty cycle range, and therefore is suitable for applications such as fuel cells which have wide voltage variation. With the proposed asymmetrical PWM method the current rating of switch and transformer is significantly reduced compared to the conventional phase angle control method, and ZVZCS and synchronous rectification can also be achieved. This could result in high efficiency and high power density. The proposed converter is analytically compared to the conventional converter, and the proposed method was validated through the experiment.

  • Power conversion system must be increased swiching frequency in order to achieve a small size, a light weight and a low noise, However, the swiches of converter are subjected to high switching power losses and switching stresses. As a result of those, the power system brings on a low efficiency. In this paper, the authors propose a DC-DC boost converter of high power by partial resonant switch method (PRSM). The switching devices in a proposed circuit are operated with soft swiching and the control technique of those is simplified for switch to drive in constant duty cycle. The partial resonant circuit makes use of a inductor suing step up and a condenser of loss-less snubber. Also the circuit has a merit which is taken to increase of efficiency, as if makes to a regeneration at input source of accumulated energy in snubber condenser without loss of snubber in conventional cirvuit. The result is the the switching loss is very low and the efficiency of system is high. The proposed converter is deemed the most suitable for high power applications where the power switching devices are used.
