KI Criteria of Surface Check under Stepwise Loadings of Drying Stresses

  • Finite element method was utilized to analyze crack tip stress and displacement field under drying stress case as stepwise loading. Opening mode of single-edge-notched model was employed and analyzed by linear elastic fracture mechanics of plane stress case. The drying stresses were applied as stepwise loads at the boundary elements of the model with 10 steps of time serial. The stress intensity factor($K_I$) for opening mode reached to its maximum just prior to the stress reversal. The $K_I$ from the displacement fields revealed 1.7 times higher than those from stress fields. By comparing the two sets of $K_I$ from displacement and stress fields, single parameter $K_I$ showed its validity to characterize displacement fields around the crack tip front while stress field could not be characterized due to large variations between two sets of data.

물참나무 판재(板材)두께와 건조(乾燥)스케쥴별 건조(乾燥) 속도(速度), 응력과(應力)과 결함(缺陷)에 관(關)한 연구(硏究) (Studies on drying rate, stress and defect with board thicknesses and drying schedules of Quercus grosseserrata B1.)

  • This research was carried out to offer the basis data for development of optimum drying schedule for a domestic oak species (Quercus grosseserrata B1.) by investigating drying rate. stress, defect, and moisuture gradient with board thicknesses and drying schedules (code number T4-C2 and T3-B1). The results were obtained as follows: 1. Average drying rate and total drying time from 52.2% to 5.8% were 0.105%/hr and 486 hours for drying schedule T4-C2 and those from 62.1% to 8.3% were 0.070%/hr. and 811 hours for drying schedule T3-B1. 2. Drying rates for 28mm- and 31mm-thick boards showed similar tendency, but were significantly different from 25mm- thick board in drying schedule T4-C2 and those for 22mm-, 25mm- 28mm- and 31mm-thick boards showed similar tendency but were significantly different from 19mm- thick boards in drying schedule T3-B1. 3. The moisture gradients for drying schedule T4-C2 were steeper than those for drying schedule T3-B1 during drying period. and especially in early drying stage slow slope of moisture gradients of drying schedule T3-B1 was effective in preventing serious problem of surface checks. 4. Drying stresses were lower in drying schedule T3-B1 than in drying schedule T4-C2 during drying period. 5. Drying schedule T4-C2 was appropriate for 25mm-thick board but not for 28mm- and 31mm-thick board because of strong drying condition. Drying schedule T3-B1 was appropriate for 28mm- and 31 mm-thick board but not for 19mm-, 22mm-, and 25mm-thick board because of weak drying condition.

콘크리트의 부등건조수축으로 인한 응력의 해석 (Stress Analysis for Differential Drying Shrinkage of Concrete)

  • 콘크리트의 건조수축은 수분확산과 밀접한 관계가 있으며, 수분확산과정은 온도와 습도에 의해 많은 영향을 받는다. 또한 물-시멘트비나 골재의 품질등에 의해서도 영향을 받기 때문에 고차의 비선형성을 보인다. 이 연구에서는 먼저 시간에 따른 콘크리트내의 수분분포를 해석하는 프로그램을 개발하고, 그리고 크리이프 및 온도와 숙성도에 따른 탄성계수의 변화를 고려하여 부등건조수축 및 부등응력을 계산하는 프로그램을 개발하였다. 이 프로그램에 의한 해석값들을 BP-KX 모델에 의해 계산된 건조수축값 및 실험값과 비교하여 좋은 결과를 보여 주었으며, 콘크리트내의 응력은 시간과 위치에 따라 정량적으로 계산되었다.

  • The drying shrinkage of concrete has a close relation to the water movement, Since the diffusion process of water in concrete is strongly dependent on the temperature and pore humidity, the process is highly nonlinear phenomena. It is shown that the analytical results of this study are in good agreement with experimental data in the literatures, and results calculated by BP-KX model. The internal stress caused by moisture distribution which was resulted from the diffusion process, was calculated quantitatively. The tensile stress which occurred in the drying outer zone mostly exceeded the tensile strength of concrete, and necessarily would result in crack formation.

집성재 라미나용 낙엽송 재내 잔류 건조응력 변화 분석 (Analysis of residual drying stress in Larix Kaempferi wood used as glulam laminar)

  • 본 연구에서 국산 낙엽송재의 공학목재로의 이용가능성, 특히 교호집성재 라미나로서의 이용가능성을 확인하기 위하여 열기건조 중과 건조 후 판재 내 잔류응력을 분석하였다. 연구결과를 통해 이쿼라이징 처리에 의한 함수율 동일화 효과가 증명되었고, 컨디셔닝 처리에 의한 잔류응력의 감소효과가 정량화되었다. 건조 중 목재 내 잔류응력 분석을 위하여 프롱법과 슬라이스법을 실시하였다. 프롱 제작 후 표면경화율을 측정하였고, 슬라이스의 절단 후 탄성변형량을 기준으로 표면으로부터 약 10 mm 깊이까지의 건조응력을 정량적으로 분석하였다. T10-C4와 T12-D5 열기건조 스케줄 적용 시 열기건조 중 판재 표면의 인장응력과 압축응력은 모두 2.2 MPa을 넘지 않음을 확인하였다. 낙엽송의 횡단방향 인장강도와 압축강도가 평균 2.65 MPa, 4.60 MPa인 점을 고려하면, 더욱 강한 건조스케줄 적용이 추천된다. 건조 후처리에 의해 폭굽음과 비틀림을 약 40% 줄일 수 있었다.

  • An experimental program of isotropic loading tests on a compacted kaolin using a conventional triaxial equipment modified for testing unsaturated soils was perform to investigate a loading collapse curve of unsaturated soils along wetting and drying paths. The test data are presented in terms of effective stress on a range of constant suction. The suction hardening behavior was observed for both wetted and dried samples. With the use of an appropriate effective stress parameter, the unique relationship for loading collapse curve for wetting and drying processes was obtained.

대단면 수심정각재 건조를 위한 포화-과열증기 연속 건조 공정의 이용가능성 평가 (Applicability of Continuous Process Using Saturated and Superheated Steam for Boxed Heart Square Timber Drying)

  • 본 연구에서는 대단면 목재의 건조를 위해 포화증기와 과열증기를 연속 적용하는 공정의 이용 가능성을 평가해보고자 하였다. 낙엽송 수심 정각재를 건조하는 동안 표면층, 내부층 및 중심층의 슬라이스 시험편을 통해 함수율 변화를 확인한 결과 포화증기 건조 중에는 표면층과 내부층 사이에서, 과열증기 건조 중에는 내부층과 중심층 사이에서 함수율 경사가 크게 발생하였다. 하지만 각 슬라이스 층간의 함수율 경사에도 불구하고, 표면 할렬은 발생하지 않았으며, 내부 할렬은 수나 미성숙재 부근에서만 발생하였다. 슬라이스의 탄성 변형률과 낙엽송의 접선 방향 탄성계수를 통해 건조 중인 낙엽송 정각재의 건조 응력의 최댓값은 1.30 MPa이었고, 건조 응력이 최대인 시점 온도와 함수율 조건에서 낙엽송의 접선 방향 인장강도는 5.21 MPa로 추산된다. 즉, 포화증기 및 과열증기를 연속 건조 공정에서 목재의 건조 응력이 접선 방향 인장강도를 초과하지 않았기 때문에 표면에서 할렬이 발생하지 않았다. 내부 할렬 발생 억제를 위한 과열증기 건조 조건 완화와 같은 추가 연구를 통해 포화-과열증기 연속 건조 공정이 대단면 목재 건조에 이용 가능할 것이라 기대된다.

The role of polymers in dispersion stability and film formation of silica/PVA suspension

  • Researches on the drying of particle/polymer suspensions receive attentions in technical applications such as manufacturing display and batteries. In this study, the effect of polymers on drying behavior of silica/poly(vinyl alcohol) suspension was investigated in terms of suspension stability and stress development during drying. The effect of polymer adsorption was studied by changing pH. More strongly flocculated suspension with lower pH became more dispersed and close-packed film after drying. Evaluation of potential energy allows us to suggest that the adsorbed polymers which bridge the particles introduce steric repulsion and lead flocculated suspension to dispersed film. When the effect of adsorption kinetics was studied by changing the mixing time, the adsorption amount, characteristic stress and dried film density showed a similar behavior in the form of with a single characteristic time. It implies that the drying process can be determined by simple characteristic equation with a single time constant.

조미 반건조 제품 가공 공정에 따른 연어육 Texture의 변화 (Changes of Salmon Meat Texture During Semi-Drying Process)

  • 연어육으로써 조미반건조 제품을 가공하기 위한 기초 자료를 조사하기 위하여 가공조건에 따른 texture의 변화를 측정한 결과는 다음과 같다. 건조시간과 열풍온도가 증가할수록 연어육의 수분함량은 감소하였고, 수분감소량에 비례하여 hardness, shear stress 및 adhesiveness는 증가하였다. 연어육 건조 중에 hardness, shear stress 및 cohesiveness의 상관관계는 hardness와 shear stress는 비례하였고 hardness와 cohesiveness는 반비례관계를 나타내었다. 당장 및 염장 후, 건조시간이 증가할수록 hardness와 shear stress는 증가하였다. 관능검사 결과, 3시간 이상 건조한 당장시료의 texture가 "약간 좋다" 이상을 보였다. 가열 중의 texture 변화에 있어서는 10시간 건조한 시료가 4시간 건조시료 보다 hardness 및 shear stress 값이 높았으며, 가열시간이 증가함에 따라 10시간 건조한 시료의 hardness는 큰 변화가 없었으나 4시간 건조한 시료에서 감소하였다. Cohesiveness의 경우 가열시간이 경과함에 따라 4시간 건조시료와 대조구는 감소하였으나 10시간 건조한 시료에는 거의 변화가 없었고 adhesiveness에 있어서는 가열시간에 따른 일정한 경향을 나타내지는 않았다.

Design of a drying system for a rollover carwash machine using CFD

  • This work describes the design and development of a new drying system for a rollover carwash machine with the support of numerical tools. The drying system is composed of a pair of stationary vertical dryers and a moveable horizontal dryer that can adjust itself to the contour of a vehicle. After the definition of the dryers' concept, their performance was assessed individually to check their internal flow pattern and to improve their airflow distribution. These issues are expected to provide feedback on redesign and geometric optimization of the dryers. After redesign of the dryers separately, the behaviour of the complete drying system was studied on actual vehicle models, representative of the shortest and tallest dimensions that can be washed with the existing carwash machine sector. The drying efficiency of the whole system was studied by calculation of shear stress distribution on various surfaces of a given vehicle. The results allowed concluding that the overall drying performance of the design system is very good and assure adequate drying on most vehicles surfaces. The results obtained from numerical studies were then validated with experimental measurements and a good agreement was found between the two. The procedure employed in this work can be applied to support the design and analysis of other mechanical drying systems.
