Performance of direct seeded paddy rice in ridged dry soil was evaluated at different seeding methods (broadcasting, drilling, and seeding in group) and seeding rates (4, 6, and 8kg /10a). The number of maximum tillers at broadcasting and drilling of seeds was higher than that at seeding in group. At broadcasing and drilling the number of maximum tillers at seeding rate of 6kg /10a was greater than that at 4 or 8kg /10a, but at seeding in group the number of maximum tillers increased with seeding rates. Among the seeding methods there were no differences in the number of seedlings per unit area, culm and panicle lengths, and productive tiller ratio, but heading date at seeding in group was delayed by a day compared with broadcasting or drilling. At heading stage leaf area index(LAI) and dry matter production at broadcasting of seeds were higher compared with drilling and seeding in group, but light transmission ratio at drilling and seeding in group was higher than that at broadcasting of seeds. Although the number of seedlings increased with seeding rates, LAI and dry matter production at heading stage, culm and panicle lengths, and productive tiller ratio were not different among the seeding rates. There were no differences in the number of panicles and spikelets per unit area, 1,000 grain weight, yield, and harvest index among the seeding methods. The number of spikelets per panicle at seeding in group was higher, but percent ripened grains was lower compared with broadcasting and drilling. There were no significant differences in the number of panicles and spikelets per panicle and unit area, percent ripened grains, and harvest index among the seeding rates, but yield at seeding rate of 6kg /10a was higher than at 4 or 8kg /10a. There were no significant differences in tiller length, bending moment, and fresh weight of tiller among the seeding methods. Breaking strength was lower in the order of seeding in group, drilling, and broadcasting of seeds. However, lodging index was similar among the seeding rates and lodging was not occurred in the field. There was a significant interaction in the cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin contents of culm base between seeding methods and seeding rates.

Methane is the main greenhouse gas released from rice paddy field. Methane from paddy fields accounts for 11 % of the global total methane emission. The global warming potential (GWP) of methane is 25 times more than that of carbon dioxide on a mass basis. It is well known that most effective practice to mitigate methane in paddy is related to the water management during rice growing season and the use of organic matters. This study was conducted to investigate the effects of tillage and cultivation method on methane emission in paddy. Tillage (tillage and no-tillage) and cultivation methods (transplanting and direct seeding) were combined tillage-transplanting (T-T), tillage-wet hill seeding (T-W), tillage-dry seeding (T-D) and no-till dry seeding (NT-D) to evaluate methane mitigation efficiency. Daily methane emission was decreased on seeding treatments (T-W, T-D, NT-D) than transplanting treatment (T-T). Amount of methane emission during rice growing season is highest in T-T ($411.7CH_4\;kg\;ha^{-1}y^{-1}$) and lowest in NT-D treatment (89.7). In T-W and T-D treatments, methane emissions were significantly decreased by 36 and 51 % respectively compared with T-T. Methane emissions were highly correlated with the dry weight of whole rice plant ($R^2=0.62{\sim}0.93$). T-T treatment showed highest $R^2$ (0.93) among the four treatments. Rice grain yields did not significantly differ with the tillage and cultivation methods used. These results suggest that direct seeding practice in rice production could mitigate the methane emissions without loss in grain yield.
To know the effects of weeding periods (weeding from 12 days, 28 days and 42 days after seeding to harvest, and weeding from seeding to 14 days, 28 days and 42 days after seeding) and growing conditions such as transparent polyethylene film mulch (P.E. mulch) and bare soil on growth and yield of peanuts, "Yeongho-Tangkong" was planted on May 10, 1984. Under P.E. mulch, the number of weeds was higher, but the weed dry weight was lower than in bare soil by the middle of July. Sixty days after seedings, the length of main stems in weedy check plots was longer, but shoot dry weight was lower compared to weed free plot. In the correlation coefficients between weed dry weight and the shoot dry weight of peanut on July 14, the growth retardation of peanuts due to weeds was showed earlier under P.E. mulch than in bare soil. Shoot dry weight, shelling ratio, number of seeds per pod, 100 pod weight, and seed yield were higher under P.E, mulch compared to bare soil. But weed dry weight, length of branches, number of pod bearing branches, number of pods per square meters, and pod yield were similar between P.E. mulch and bare soil. Shoot dry weight of peanuts, length of branches, number of pod bearing branches, number of pods per square meters, pod yield, 100 pod weight, 100 seed weight, and seed yield in weed free plots from 28 days after seeding to harvest (28 DAS-Harvest) were higher compared to weed free plots from 42 DAS-Harvest. However, in the weed free plot from seeding to 42 days after seeding seed yield was lower than that of the continuous weeding plot due to lower number of pod bearing branches and number of pods per square meters. When weed was not controlled at the later growth stages of peanuts, reduction in seed yield due to weeds was greater in bare soil than that under P.E. mulch.

To investigate effects of organic matter application on heavy metal uptake of infant rice seeding, the various amount of organic matter(peat and $Bio-com^{(R)}$)was applied on Cd or Cu treated nursery bed soil. No growth difference was observed up to 20mg/kg of Cu treatment. Above 20mg/kg of Cu treatment, the seeding height and top dry weight were decreased but the Cu uptake by seeding was increased with increasing Cu treatment level. The mat formation was poor above 20mg/kg of Cu treatment, however, the seeding peat application level. All peat treatment resulted better mat formation than control. The seeding height and top dry increasing Cd treatment level. The mat formation was not effected by either Cd treatment level or organic matter sources. The effect of peat and $Bio-com{(R)}$ application on Cd uptake by infant rice seeding was not observed at all Cd treatments level.

The purpose of this study is to analyze hydraulic characteristics of surface irrigation in a paddy field of direct seeding culture. Field experiment was performed in the paddy field of ridge direct dry seeding. Simulation by a numerical model was also accomplished with the data obtained from the field experiment. The model was developed by one dimensional zero-inertia equation and finite difference method. From the result of the field observation, the furrows of the experimental field were found to have various geometric characteristics. Advance distance and time were measured both in the field and by the model simulation for various furrow lengths and irrigation discharges. Roughness coefficients of each furrow were also estimated by the model.
seeding rates(1.5,2.0,3.0 and 3.5$\ell$/10a). There were no differences in the yield components such as length of stem and ear diameter of stem number of branch, internode and ear, and yield of fresh and dry stem between the seeding methods with drilling and broadcasting, but yield components such as length of stem and ear, diameter of stem, number of branch, internode and ear, and yield of fresh and dry stem increased with seeding rates of from 2.5$\ell$ /10a to 3.5$\ell$/10a. Therefore potimum rates and methods of sowing were from 2.5$\ell$/10a to 3.5$\ell$/10a with seeding at the drilling and broadcasting.

This study was conducted to identify the optimum proper nitrogen (N) application rate for tillering in ridge direct seeding on dry paddy of rice culture. During 1998, a series of experiments was carried out at paddy field (Chonbuk series) of the National Honam Agricultural Experiment Station, RDA using Dongjinbyeo. Leaf area index and top dry weight increased with higher N levels, especially in the 100 kg/ha seeding rate compared with the 60 kg/ha seeding rate. N use efficiency increased at increased by 50~75% of the N topdressing rate at tillering. Heading date, ripened grain rate, and 1,000-grain weight of brown rice did not vary among the rate of topdressing for tillering and seeding rates. The highest grain number per unit area was at the level of increased by 75% in N topdressing at tillering stage. Milled rice yield increased 5% at the 60 kg/ha seeding rate and increased 16~17% at the 100 kg/ha seeding rate at increased by 50~75% of topdressing N compared with 48 kg/ha topdressed N of 60 kg/ha seeding rate.

This study was conducted to investigate the effect of the seeding and harvesting dates on the growth characteristics, dry matter yield and quality of com for silage in alpine area(altitude 800m a.s.l.) of National Livestock Research Institute from 2001 to 2002. The experiment was arranged in a split plot design with three replications. Main plots consisted of three seeding dates, 10 May, 20 May and 30 May. Sub plots consisted of harvesting dates, 15 September, 25 September and 5 October. Tassel height of com was decreased with seeding dates, 30 May, 10 May and 20 May in order, and harvesting date of 5 October was apt to be high. Ear height of com was decreased with seeding dates, 20 May, 30 May, and 10 May in order, and harvesting date of 15 September was the lowest of all treatments. Ear rate of com was decreased with late seeding dates, and it was the highest with harvesting date of 5 October. Dry matter yield was decreased with late seeding dates(P<0.05), and it was increased with late harvesting regardless of seeding dates(P<0.05). Crude protein content of com stover was increased with late seeding dates, and that of com ear was the highest with seeding date of 20 May. And crude protein contents of com stover and ear were the highest with harvesting date of 15 September. NDF contents of com stover and ear were the highest with seeding date of 10 May and 20 May, respectively, and NDF content of com stover was the highest with seeding date of 10 May and there was no difference among treatments in NDF content of ear. ADF content of com stover was 42.1 to 42.6% regardless of seeding dates, and that of com ear was the highest with seeding date of 30 May. ADF content of com stover and ear was increased with early harvesting date excepting for harvesting date of 20 May. These results indicate that 20 May and 25 September would be the optimum seeding date and harvesting date, respectively, for dry matter yield and nutritive value of silage com in alpine area.

An experiment was conducted to determine the effects of seeding rates and nitrogen fertilization levels on the agronomic characteristics, nutritive value and forage yield of spring oat(Avena sativa L.). This experiment was undertaken over a period of 2 months from September to November, 1987. The results obtained are summarized as follows : Increased seeding rates of 120, 160 and 200kg/ha decreased emergence rates by 93.4, 71.4 and 70.6 %, respectively(P<0.05). Tillering was decreased by higher seeding rates(P<0.05) and that of 120kg/ha of seeding rate with 200kg/ha of nitrogen fertilization level was highest by 3.3. Among three seeding rates, tillering of 200 kg/ha of nitrogen fertilization level was lowest by 2.1. Leaf width was influenced by seeding rates. When seeding rate was increased, narrow leaf width (P

The objective of this study was to evaluate the dry matter yield of (DMY) of Italian ryegrass (IRG) forage crop based on two seeding date (September 25 and October 2) in 2017 and 2018, and evaluation of the potential reason of DMY reduction in IRG cultivars grown at Chuncheon, South Korea. Three cultivars of IRG including Kowinearly, Kowinmaster and Hwasan 104 were used in this experiment. The experimental field was designed as a split-split-plot arrangement. The cultivars were harvested on April 26 before the heading stage of both years. In this study, no significant effect (p>0.05) of seeding date has been found on the DMY, whereas the cultivars and year showed a significant effect on the DMY (p<0.05). Except September 25 of 2017, Hwasan 104 indicated significantly lower (p<0.05) DMY than Kowinearly and Kowinmaster in all seeding periods. Though no significant difference (p>0.05) was observed for the DMY between the two seeding dates in 2018, but the DMY was significantly lower (p<0.05) than that of 2017. Lower crude protein (CP) content of Kowinearly was observed on the seeding date of October 2 of 2017, and also in both seeding dates on 2018 (p<0.05). No significant difference (p>0.05) was observed in acid detergent fiber (ADF) between the cultivars on both seeding dates and years. Similarly, no significant difference (p>0.05) was found in neutral detergent fiber (NDF) between the cultivars in 2017. However, Kowinearly showed higher NDF content as compared to Kowinmaster and Hwasan 104 on both seeding dates and years. The seeding date has no significant difference (p>0.05). Thus, considering the extent of DMY in both years, the mean minimum temperature during winter season could be the limiting factor for the DMY of IRG cultivars. However, based on this study, the seeding dates of September 25 and October 2 have no potential effect on the DMY. Thus, on the basis of the current DMY and forge quality parameters, the cultivation Kowinmaster is recommended in Chuncheon.
