  • Piezoelectric ceramics is an active element that makes stator to vibrate to generate rotational force in ultrasonic motors. In drive of ultrasonic motors, many factors that affect to the resonance characteristics of piezoelectric ceramics exist. For example, those factors are bonding condition with elastic body, the magnitude of electric field, the normal force for frictional drive and the emission of heat due to vibration and friction and so on. Therefore, it is important to research the inclination of property variation of piezoelectric ceramics in circumstance that has complex elements. In this paper, we focused and analyzed the resonance characteristics of ultrasonic motor due to the magnitude of the driving voltage and normal force.

  • A brushless DC (BLDC) motor control system for four-axis driving fins to control the flight attitude of a guided artillery munition is developed in this study. This system adopts a simple sensorless control scheme without a Hall sensor. A 12-step driving sensorless BLDC motor scheme is used to improve the output torque. This system has many restrictive problems that hinder the verification of a real system. For example, this has cost and environmental limitations. Therefore, this study develops HILS to verify a four-axis driving fin control system and verifies the position control system hardware by HILS operation.

  • As a new technical approach, this paper introduces a method for improving an electrically propelled outboard motor in consideration of the driving system applied to an electric-propulsion boat with solar cell energy. The most efficient model for a drive shaft, propeller shaft, and bevel gear was suggested and examined with respect to the results of test operation in prototype mode. Furthermore, this research included a performance evaluation of the manufactured prototype to acquire the purposed quantity value and the development items. After manufacturing the desired prototype of an electrically propelled outboard motor, the maximum sail time, thrust force, noise, and weight were evaluated in a performance test. An additional test in relation to the maximum sail speed (knots) of the completed prototype was conducted using a sea trial evaluation to acquire the optimum quantity.

  • Active stabilizers use signals such as steering angle, yaw rate, and lateral acceleration to vary the roll stiffness of the front and rear suspension depending on the vehicle's driving conditions, and are attracting attention as RSC (Roll Stability Control) system that suppresses roll when turning and improves ride comfort when going straight. Various studies have been conducted in relation to active stabilizer bars and RSC systems. However, accurate modeling of passive stabilizer model and active stabilizer model and vehicle dynamics analysis result verification are insufficient, and performance result analysis related to vehicle roll angle estimation and electric motor control is insufficient. Therefore, in this study, an accurate vehicle dynamics model was constructed by measuring the passive/active stabilizer bar model and component parameters. Based on this, the analysis result with high reliability was derived by comparing the roll angle estimation algorithm based on the lateral acceleration and suspension of the vehicle with the actual vehicle driving test result. In addition, it was intended to accurately analyze the motor torque characteristics and roll reduction effects of the electric motor-driven RSC system.

  • This paper presents development of a vehicle lateral and longitudinal control for autonomous driving control and test results obtained using an electric vehicle. Sliding control theory has been used to develop a vehicle speed and distance control algorithm. The longitudinal control algorithm that maintains safety and comfort of the vehicle consists of a cruise and STOP&GO control depending on traffic conditions. Desired steering angle is determined through the lateral position error and the yaw angle error based on preview optimal control. Motor control inputs have been directly derived from the sliding control law. The performance of the autonomous driving control which is integrated with a lateral and longitudinal control is investigated by computer simulations and driving test using an electric vehicle. Electric vehicle system consists of DC driving motor, an electric power steering system, main controller (Autobox)

  • This paper presents a efficient sensorless driving strategy for brushless dc motor(BLDCM). By varying PWM switching frequency(4KHz, 6KHz, 8KHz) properly according to the rotating speed, the improvement of the efficiency and the operating characteristics through the wide speed are obtained.. The experimental results show that the proposed method can efficiently improve the sensorless driving performance for BLDCM with trapezoidal back emf.

  • Recently in the field of precision positioning device, the contact-free stages are gaining focuses with their outstanding performances by eliminating mechanical frictions. This paper presents the driving algorithm for contact-free linear stage based on switched reluctance principle. The proposed driving algorithm has a similar structure of that of switched reluctance motor but this study has its own originality in terms of reducing the normal farces and force ripple at the same time. The simulation and experiment are executed to verify the proposed algorithm.

  • This paper presents a study on the driving characteristics or delta inverter driving induction motor control systems based on the microprocessor. Delta inverter is a novel circuit which uses only three power transistor. Requiring approximately hair the components or a conventional bridge inverter it therefore has a merit of coat and Simplicity. The basic operating principles of the delta inverter and conventional bridge inverter are argued, using resistive and inductive load. Sinusoidal PWM method uses to reduce the harmonic components of its output waveform to acceptable levels.

  • The characteristics of vibration and sound signals which occurs at the driving system of electric train are investigated in this study since the vibration of driving system is one of the main sources of vibration and sound in electric train. The vibration signals are changed its signal patterns during the transmission from the source to passengers due to noise or several unknown factors. To avoid the complexity of actual signals of electric train, signals from experimental apparatus of motor/gear driving system are analyzed to find the appropriate method of analysis and to characterize the signal patterns. The used methods are waterfall diagram, transfer function and modal analysis. The results shows that the vibration signals are usually originated from motor bearing and gear meshing and these signals are transmitted to bottom or bogie. Also, the sound signal is similar to the vibration of bottom or bogie, but it is not so clear to figure out the source of vibration.

  • Recently, research and development of a hybrid system for passenger cars as well as for heavy-duty vehicles has become more intensive. An electric powertrain system using an electric motor can replace conventional gasoline and diesel engines. The electric motor has a higher efficiency, better acceleration performance, and is more comfortable than conventional powertrain systems; however, new methods for assessing power performance and energy convergence efficiency have to be investigated because the characteristics of an electric motor are entirely different from those of an internal combustion engine (ICE). In this study, an experiment was carried out on a motor (PMSM: Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor) test bench. One simple driving mode and four other driving modes identified from real-world driving data of a city bus were selected to perform the experiment on the motor test bench. Then, methods for assessing the acceleration performance, energy convergence efficiency, regenerative effect, etc., were investigated. It was found that the energy efficiency of PMSM was about 90% and that 40% of demand energy was regenerated.
