Comprehensive Evaluation of Freeway Surface Conditions based on User's Satisfaction (이용자 만족도를 고려한 고속도로 노면상태 종합평가에 관한 연구)

  • This research is aimed at comprehensively evaluating the condition of a road surface of a highway in satisfaction of its users. This research conducted an overall evaluation of a road surface condition by adding qualitative data, or a driver's satisfaction to the existing quantitative elements, whereas the existing research put its focus on a correlation analysis with quantitative factors and qualitative factors through a statistical method. As for an evaluation method, this research conducted an overall evaluation by using Grey System Theory which makes possible an integrated evaluation. The analyzed results make it possible to diagnose the current conditions of each section of object roads and to predict the potentially changeable conditions for the time to come. In addition, these analyzed results could hopefully be applied to the maintenance of freeways through diverse methods. It is hoped that the evaluation of a road surface condition of a highway in satisfaction of its user could be helpful to keeping up the satisfaction of a driver and passenger on the highway by more than a certain level. In addition, the analyzed data on the influence of data value observed by comprehensively evaluating a variety of elements could be used as a secondary means of the decision-making process in relation to road maintenance. On top of that, it could be used as a means of improving road maintenance system and offering the improved driving environment of the highway.

Prediction of golf scores on the PGA tour using statistical models (PGA 투어의 골프 스코어 예측 및 분석)

  • This study predicts the average scores of top 150 PGA golf players on 132 PGA Tour tournaments (2013-2015) using data mining techniques and statistical analysis. This study also aims to predict the Top 10 and Top 25 best players in 4 different playoffs. Linear and nonlinear regression methods were used to predict average scores. Stepwise regression, all best subset, LASSO, ridge regression and principal component regression were used for the linear regression method. Tree, bagging, gradient boosting, neural network, random forests and KNN were used for nonlinear regression method. We found that the average score increases as fairway firmness or green height or average maximum wind speed increases. We also found that the average score decreases as the number of one-putts or scrambling variable or longest driving distance increases. All 11 different models have low prediction error when predicting the average scores of PGA Tournaments in 2015 which is not included in the training set. However, the performances of Bagging and Random Forest models are the best among all models and these two models have the highest prediction accuracy when predicting the Top 10 and Top 25 best players in 4 different playoffs.

Review of Safety Measures through Analysis of Accidents on the Vehicle-mounted MEWP(mobile elevated work platforms) (차량 탑재형 고소작업대의 사고분석을 통한 안전대책 고찰)

  • In this paper, we analyze various cases of accidents caused by vehicle-mounted MEWPs(mobile elevated work platforms) which are most widely used for the high position level works, review the safety improvement measures for each of them, and propose basic data for the revision of related laws. The accidents by MEWPs were caused by the high level of works, which lead to fatal personnel accidents, so the measures for safety must be thoroughly carried out and the obligatory regulations by the related laws must be strictly observed. In this paper, we classify the cases of accidents at the workshop as 4 representative types and propose measures and remedies for them. According to the current regulations, it is possible to prepare for the accidents such as the wire rope breakage by switching to the all-chain drive method which does not have a daily use time limit instead of the wire rope drive method which is widely used at present. Also, it is suggested to add the daily use timetable to the nameplate attachment duty item according to the driving class.

A Study on Customer Satisfaction for Smart Trunk using the Kano Model (카노모델을 이용한 스마트 트렁크 기능의 고객 만족에 관한 연구)

  • In recent years, the automobile industry has been facing a major change with the introduction of new technologies represented by autonomous driving, electrification, and digitalization. Major domestic and overseas automakers are trying to use a systematic approach to customer satisfaction through user interfaces to provide customers with a special experience and value beyond just making products with high performance. This study proposes the Kano model as a systematic and qualitative research method for satisfaction. As a case study, 17 functions of a product were sorted (3 operation functions, 7 safety functions, and 7 convenience functions). This was done by analyzing the use case and the customers' requirements for a smart trunk system. 18 new functions were derived via creative ideation codes. In addition, a scientific analysis method is proposed for product quality attributes and the strength of customer satisfaction. Using the Kano methodology, 25 functions were classified into quality attributes: 18 attractive qualities, 3 one-dimensional qualities, and 4 complex qualities, which are combinations of one-dimension qualities and must-have qualities. The functions that have one-dimensional quality and complex qualities were found to have higher customer ratings than the functions that have attractive qualities. Based on this, enterprises could effectively reduce customer complaints and enhance customer satisfaction.

Forward probing utilizing electrical resistivity and induced polarization for predicting soil and core-stoned ground ahead of TBM tunnel face (전기비저항과 유도분극을 활용한 TBM 터널 굴착면 전방 토사지반 및 핵석지반 예측 기법)

  • It is essential to predict ground conditions ahead of a tunnel face in order to successfully excavate tunnels using a shield TBM. This study proposes a forward prediction method for a mixed soil ground and/or a ground containing core stones by using electrical resistivity and induced polarization exploration. Soil conditioning in EPB shield TBM is dependent upon the composition of mixed soils; a special care need to be taken when excavating the core-stoned soil ground using TBM. The resistivity and chargeability are assumed to be measured with four electrodes at the tunnel face, whenever the excavation is stopped to assemble one ring of a segment lining. Firstly, the mixed ground consisting of weathered granite soil, sand, and clay was modeled in laboratory-scale experiments. Experimental results show that the measured electrical resistivity considerably coincides with the analytical solution. On the other hand, the induced polarization has either same or opposite trend with the measured resistivity depending on the mixed ground conditions. Based on these experimental results, a method to predict the mixed soil ground that can be used during TBM tunnel driving is suggested. Secondly, tunnel excavation from a homogeneous ground to a ground containing core stones was modeled in laboratory scale; the irregularity of the core stones contained in the soil layer was modeled through random number generation scheme. Experimental results show that as the TBM approaches the ground that contains core stones, the electrical resistivity increases and the induced polarization fluctuates.

Handover Delay Stability Method for Train Control on LTE Railway System (LTE-R 시스템에서 열차제어를 위한 핸드오버 지연 안정화 방안)

  • In case that the train driving with diverse high-speeds is manipulates by real-time remote control in long-term evolution-railway (LTE-R) system with frequent handovers, the real-time safe transmission of train control messages is important element. The handover delay time stability method regardless of train speed in order to enhance the real-time remote train control stability in LTE-R system is proposed in the paper. Furthermore, the variable speeds and altitudes of train collected by real measurements are applied for upgrading simulation accuracy. The simulation results inform that not only there are stable and unstable ranges to A3 offset values, but the optimal offset value for average handover delay is in unstable range. However, the late handover with A3 offset values in stable range should be chosen to get the predictable handover delay regardless of train speed rather than the early handover with A3 offset values in unstable range, since the key value of high-speed Korea railway system is the stability.

  • Some problems, such as aging workers, a decreased population due to a low birth rate, and shortage of skilled workers, are rising in construction sites. Therefore research for smart construction technology that can be improved for productivity, safety, and quality has been recently developed with government support by replacing traditional construction technology with advanced digital technology. In particular, the motor grader that mainly performs road surface flattening is a construction machine that requires the application of automation technology for repetitive construction. It is predicted that the construction period will be shortened if the construction automation technology such as trajectory tracking, automation work, and remote control technology is applied. In this study, we introduce the hardware and software architecture of the smart motor grader to apply unmanned and automation technology and then analyze the traditional earthwork method of the motor grader. We suggested the application plans for the path pattern and blade control method of the smart motor grader based on this. In addition, we verified the performance of waypoint-based path-following depending on scenarios and the blade control's performance through tests.

Development of a Korean-version Integrated Message Set to Provide Information on Traffic Safety Facilities for Autonomous Vehicles (자율주행 자동차 대응 교통안전시설의 정보 제공을 위한 한국형 통합 메시지 셋 설계 방안 연구)

  • It is necessary to acquire information on traffic safety facilities installed on the roadways specifically for the operation of autonomous vehicles. The purpose of this study is to prepare a Korean version of an integrated message-set design as a way to provide to autonomous vehicles standardized information on traffic safety facilities. In this study, necessary facilities are classified according to four criteria (no legal basis; not providing information to autonomous vehicles; providing duplicate information; not standardized, and too difficult to generalize) based on information that must be provided to operate autonomous vehicles. The priority of information delivery (gross negligence followed by behavior change) was classified according to the importance of the information to be provided during autonomous driving, and the form was defined for the classification code in the information delivered. Finally, the information location and delivery method of traffic facilities for compliance with SAE J2735 were identified. This study is meaningful in that it provides a plan for roadway operations by suggesting a method for providing information to autonomously driven vehicles.

Development of Prediction Model for Improvement of Safety Facilities in Frequent Traffic Accidents (교통사고 잦은 곳 안전시설 개선 방안 예측 모델 개발)

  • Accidents are greatly reduced through projects to improve frequent traffic accidents. These results show that safety facilities play a big role. Traffic accidents are caused by various causes and various environmental factors, and it is difficult to achieve improvement effects by installing one safety facility or facilities without standards. Therefore, this study analyzed the improvement effect of each accident type by combining the two safety facilities, and suggested a method of predicting the combination of safety facilities suitable for a specific point, including environmental factors such as road type, road type, and traffic. The prediction was carried out by selecting an XGBoost technique that creates one strong prediction model by combining prediction models that can be simple classification. Through this, safety facilities that have had positive effects through improvement projects and safety facilities to be installed at points in need of improvement were derived, and safety facilities effect analysis and prediction methods for future installation points were presented.

Deep Learning-based UWB Distance Measurement for Wireless Power Transfer of Autonomous Vehicles in Indoor Environment (실내환경에서의 자율주행차 무선 전력 전송을 위한 딥러닝 기반 UWB 거리 측정)

  • As the self-driving car market continues to grow, the need for charging infrastructure is growing. However, in the case of a wireless charging system, stability issues are being raised because it requires a large amount of power compared with conventional wired charging. SAE J2954 is a standard for building autonomous vehicle wireless charging infrastructure, and the standard defines a communication method between a vehicle and a power transmission system. SAE J2954 recommends using physical media such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and UWB as a wireless charging communication method for autonomous vehicles to enable communication between the vehicle and the charging pad. In particular, UWB is a suitable solution for indoor and outdoor charging environments because it exhibits robust communication capabilities in indoor environments and is not sensitive to interference. In this standard, the process for building a wireless power transmission system is divided into several stages from the start to the completion of charging. In this study, UWB technology is used as a means of fine alignment, a process in the wireless power transmission system. To determine the applicability to an actual autonomous vehicle wireless power transmission system, experiments were conducted based on distance, and the distance information was collected from UWB. To improve the accuracy of the distance data obtained from UWB, we propose a Single Model and Multi Model that apply machine learning and deep learning techniques to the collected data through a three-step preprocessing process.
