Development of a high speed feed drive system has been a major issue for the past few decades in machine tool industries. The reduction of tool change time as well as repid travel time can enhance the productivity. However, the high speed feed drive system generates more heat in nature, which leads to thermal expansion that has adverse effects on the accuracy of machined part. The paper divides the feed drive system into the ball screw and guide way. For each part, the thermal behvior model is separtately developed to estimate the position error of the respective feed drive system that is caused by the thermal expansion. The modified lumped capacitance method is used to analyze the linear position error of the ball screw. The thermal deformation of guide way parts affects the straightness and angular error as well as linear position error. Finite element method is used to estimate the thermal behavior of these guide way parts. The effectiveness of the proposed models are verified through the experiments using laser interferometer.
MDO (Multidisciplinary Design Optimization) methodology is an emerging new technology to solve a complicate structural analysis and design problem with a large number of design variables and constraints. In this paper MDO methodology is adopted through the use of computer aided systems such as Geometric Solid Modeller, Mesh Generator, CAD system and CAE system. And this paper introduces MDO methodology as a new method for structural analysis and design through the application to the structural design of flap drive system. In a MDO methodology application to the structural design of flap drive system, kinetodynamic analysis is done using a simple aerodynamic analysis model for the air flow over the flap surface instead of difficult aerodynamic analysis. Simultaneously the structural static analysis is done to obtain the optimum structural condition. And the structural buckling analysis for push pull rod is also done to confirm the optimum structural condition (optimum cross section shape of push pull rod).
A harmonic drive is compact torque transmission device with no backlash which is widely applied in industrial field to transmit torque precisely. However, one of the disadvantages of harmonic drives is the existence of mechanical flexibility caused by its structural properties, which imposes great limitation on designing precise controller This paper proposes a nonlinear controller for synchronous operation of DC servo-motors with harmonic drive, using Integrator Backstepping method. Furthermore, an alternative algorithm for serial type synchronous operation of multiple DC servo-motors is proposed. Simulation results by SIMULINK for proposed controller shows considerably small error and rapid approach to reference input, which can be adapted to industrial applications.
After the vibration source is searched in optical disk drive as an information storage device broadly used the influence of it against FES(Focusing Error Signal) which is a kind of positioning error of pick up from the circuit is carefully examined. For that Purpose, partial coherence function method is applied on a simple multi-degree of freedom model made for the theoretical verification and it is practically introduced in optical disk drive for analyzing the effect of vibration source. Finally, partial coherence output spectrum is attentively observed in order to know which vibration source is a great influence on FES.
This research proposes a method to estimate the fatigue life of solid-state drive(SSD) due to the effect of dummy solder ball under forced vibration. Mechanical jig is developed to describe the SSD in laptop computer. The jig with SSD is mounted on a shaker, and excited by a sinusoidal sweep vibration within the narrow frequency band around the first resonant frequency until the SSD fails. A finite element model of SSD is also developed to simulate the forced vibration. It shows that the solder joints at the corners of controller package are most vulnerable components and that placing dummy solder balls at those area is effective method to increase fatigue life of SSD.
This paper describes the OPTIMAL PWM strategy to reduce harmonic losses for a variaboe-speed drive of an induction motor. This OPTIMAL theory is the strategy which can reduce motor losses by defining harmonic losses as a performance index and achieving it's minimization. This PWM strategy is compared with the conventional NATURAL PWM technique by a numerical method, and verified the validity of numerical method by a result of implementing in a practical 1 Hp-3 Phase induction motor drive system. Also, we could achieve a maximum efficiency to drive an induction motor by selecting appropriately one alternative between OPTIMAL and NATURAL PWM techniques, and employing it in a full driving range.
This paper presents the method of determining state feedback gains of XPTOS for disk drive servomechanism based BESSEL filter prototype. A typical disk drive actuator can be modeled as second order dynamics for low frequencies. However, the response at higher frequencies shows resonant behavior which cannot be easily modeled. XPTOS consists of the nonlinear control region and the linear control region. In the linear control region, the poles of a second order nominal model of plant must be properly relocated by pole placement technique to attenuate resonant modes at high frequency and to attain minimum time state transition. It is difficult to select position to satisfy this object because velocity feedback gain is subjected to position feedback gain in XPTOS. Here poles of BESSEL filter prototype are selected to determine state feedback gains of XPTOS. Simulation results for disk drive servomechanism using XPTOS having state feedback gains by the proposed method are presented.
In this paper are presented dynamic modeling and path-tracking of differential drive wheeled-mobile robots(WMRs) having the limited drive-torques. Instantaneously coincident coordinate system, force/torque propagation and Newton's equilibrium law are used to induce the dynamic model. When drive-torques generated by inverse dynamics exceed the limitation, we make wheeled-mobile robots follow the reference path by modifying the planned reference trajectory with time-scaling method. The controller is introduced to compensate for error owing to modeling uncertainty and measurement noise. And simulation results prove that method proposed by this paper is efficient.
Vibration reduction of an optical disk drive is achieved by an automatic ball balancer and dynamic behaviors of the drive are studied by theoretical approaches. Using Lagrange's equation, we derive nonlinear equations of motion for a non-autonomous system with respect to the rectangular coordinate. To investigate the dynamic stability of the system in the neighborhood of equilibrium positions, the Floquet theory is applied to the perturbed equations. On the other hand, time responses are computed by an explicit time integration method. We also investigate the effects of mass center and the position of the ABB on the dynamic behaviors of the system.
We propose a method to update DSP (Digital Signal Processor) firmware using USB (Universal Serial Bus) flash drives. The DSP automatically detects USB drives based on an interrupt when the USB drive is inserted into the USB port. The new firmware binary file is found in the mounted USB drive, and the destination address of DSP flash memory is identified for the firmware update writing by investigating the firmware file header. After the new firmware is written to the DSP flash memory, the DSP is reset and rebooted with the newly updated firmware. By employing TI's TMS320F28379D control card with USB ports, we conduct experiments and verify the normal operation of the implemented method.
