The objective of this study was to examine alcohol consumption rates and the perception of drinking cultures among college students in the Wonju area. An examination of factors such as frequency of drinking, average quantity consumed, and frequency of heavy drinking suggested that the drinking rates were relatively high. Over 70% of subjects drank at least once a week, 66.2% typically drank more than 5 servings at a time, and 19.2% of males and 13.0% of females were heavy drinkers. It was revealed from an AUDIT (Alcohol Use Disorder Identification Test) assessment that 71.3% of the subjects tested had various levels of alcohol-related problems. These problems were more severe in subjects that were male, selfboarding, or overweight. Alcohol related knowledge was not high because the subjects didn't know or incorrectly recognized some contents such as blood alcohol concentration, the energy content of alcohol, and the empty caloric characteristics of alcohol. Generally male, self-boarding, and overweight persons were not critical of the undesirable characteristics associated with drinking culture. Two opinions that were generally considered to be permissible were: 'Men should be able to drink' and 'Drinking is essential for a smooth human relationship'.
Nowadays drunken drive and other problems related to drinking have been increased in our society. Those problems, we believe, are just the outcomes of undesirable drinking life. To investigate the drinking life of youngsters aged between 20 and 30, 271 university students and workers in Chongju area were surveyed, focusing on attitude toward drinking, drinking behavior and drinking habits. The results are as follows: 1. Youngsters, regardless of their sex, have generous attitude toward drinking. 2. Youngsters usually drink to get along with their friends or fellow workers. 3. The university students drink alone more frequently than the workers do. And to drink alone occurs when they feel mental stress or face difficulties. 4. The university students and the workers do not differ in terms of average drinking frequency per month, the number of pubs they stop by per drinking occasion, and the king of liquor they take. 5. Above 80% of the car owners have experienced the drinking drive. And they tend to smoke more while drinking.
방법: 연구 대상자는 472명의 한국 대학생이며 사용한 측정도구는 Reasons for Drinking Questionnaire(RFDQ), Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test(AUDIT)이다.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze the association between single-person households & Beneficiary of National Basic Livelihood and recommendation on alcohol consumption, and counseling on drinking problems for adults 19 years of age or older. Methods: In this study, excluding missing values, the association between the single-person household & Beneficiary of National Basic Livelihood and recommendation to refrain drinking alcohol, counseling for drinking problems was analyzed by using the chi-squre test and logistic regression analysis. Results: In the case of non-single person households, compared to single-person households, the recommendation rate to refrain drinking alcohol was 1.519 OR (Odds Ratio [OR]: 1.159 , p-value <.0001). meanwhile, in the case of Beneficiary of National Basic Livelihood, the recommendation rate to refrain alcohol consumption was higher by 1.414 OR (OR: 1.414, p-value: 0.011), and the drinking problem counseling rate was also higher by 2.257 OR (OR: 2.257, p-value: 0.026) compared to non-beneficiary group. Discussion & Conclusion: Based on the 2016-2019 National Health and Nutrition Survey, this study investigated the associaiton between single households & Beneficiary of National Basic Livelihood and recommendations to refrain alcohol, and counseling on drinking problems. Compared to the Beneficiary of National Basic Livelihood group, single-person household group has recently been classified as a socially vulnerable group, but it is not applicable in the policy category. If policy and institutional measures for treatment are provided, it is expected that the problem of alcohol abuse can be reduced.
This is an exploratory study to describe drinking patterns and alcohol-related problems (ARP) in women. A probability sample was drawn from Kyungnam Providence area 20 to 59 age by a multi- stage cluster sampling method and secondary data analysis was used. Drinking patterns in this study involve lifetime prevalence of alcohol use, year prevalence, month prevalence , frequency and usual quantity of drinking alcohol in a situation, ARPs were measured by employing a modified version of ARP developed by Alcohol Research Group in U.S.A. Three measurements were constructed to represent alcohol-related problems by summing up 41 alcoholic statements, which were consequence, social consequence and dependence. The results were as follows; 1) The lifetime prevalence of alcohol use in women was $80.3\%$ and year prevalence $78.3\%$. High prevalence rates of drinking were observed in the twenties who have at least community college diploma. and frequencies of alcohol use were increased as age increased. 2) More than $27.3\%$ of the respondents who were reported to experience at least a ARP in a year. 3) ARPs were associated with age, religion, frequency and usual quantity of drinking alcohol in situation. Issues were proposed with respect to research methodology and policy implications for public health.
Objectives: Socioeconomic factors are one of the significant factors explaining drinking problems in our society. From the poverty and inequality perspective, not only absolute poverty but perceived level of poverty or inequality has a direct effect on one's health and health behaviors. The purpose of the study is to explore the growth trajectories of problem drinking in Korea in relation to poverty and perceived income. Methods: Data from 13,414 adults were analyzed using 4 years of data (2010 to 2014) from the Korea Welfare Panel. Main variables included poverty status, perceived income inequality, and problem drinking. A latent growth modeling was employed for the analysis. Results: The non-poverty group had higher initial level of problem drinking; however, the poverty group showed higher rate of increase in problem drinking rate. The perceived income inequality had no significant influence on the initial level, but over time, those with higher level of perceived income inequality showed higher rate of increase in problem drinking. Conclusions: Findings showed that poverty and inequality affect changes in problem drinking. Efforts to prevent and decrease problems related to alcohol should not only focus on changing individuals' behavior but also on decreasing the inequality gap.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to prevent the Aged from encountering a sudden accident in an emergency situation caused by drinking, help them have better awareness of drinking problems, and provide basic data for forming sound drinking. Method: A descriptive approach was made to the occurrence of emergency situations caused by drinking for the aged by reviewing literature concerning the subject, along with the analysis of the actual condition through the cases of emergency situations. In Korea, there is no CRA studies and has not well known CRA and not well established their methodologies. Therefore, objectives of this study is to establish the framework of CRA consisting of health risk, economic risk and perceived risk and the detail methodologies of three main component of estimating and comparing those risks for on the three environmental problems of air pollution, indoor air pollution and drinking water contamination which being subjective to the eight sub-problems of hazardous ai. pollutants (HAPs), regulated pollutants (representative as PM10) and Dioxins (PCDDS/ PCDFs) in air pollution, and indoor ai. pollutants (IAPs) and Radon in indoor air pollution, and drinking water pollutants (DWPs), disinfection-by- products(DBPs) and radionuclides in drinking water contamination in Seoul, Korea. And then, their problems set priorities by individual and integrated risk. As a results, ranking of health risk were the following order of indoor air pollution, air pollution and then drinking water contamination, in three environmental problems and of radon, PM10, IAPs, HAPs, DWPs, Dioxins, DBPs, and then radionuclides in eight sub-problems. And that of economic risk were the same order. In the contrary, ranking of perceived risk were the following order of air pollution, drinking water contamination, and then indoor air pollution, and of HAPs, Dioxins, radionuclides, PM10, DWPs, IAPs, Radon and then DBPs.
