This study analyses the nexus between political change and development of parliamentary politics in Malaysia. The continued and stable parliamentary politics did not necessarily associated with political development in Malaysia for the last five decades. Except the 1969 general election, the ruling coalition, Barisan Nasional(BN), has never been failed to obtain the two-third majority of parliamentary seats even though there has been regular general elections in every 4-5 years without any interruption. It is, however, worth noting that there has been dramatic political changes since the late 1990s. In particular, the 2008 general election showed the remarkable results, collapsing the two-third majority of BN's parliamentary seats. The opposition parties even took over the 5 state governments out of 12 in total. The more distinguished feature was the emergence of opposition coalition, called Pakatan Rakyak(PR), right after the 2008 general election. It was the first united coalition in Malaysia's modern political history among the severely divided opposition parties. Since its emergence, the PR has initiated various changes leading towards a more active parliamentary politics. In this regards, this study argues that parliamentary politics is no more regarded as a dependent variable in Malaysia's political process.

Krüppel-like factor 10 (KLF10) regulates various cellular functions, such as proliferation, differentiation and apoptosis, as well as the homeostasis of several types of tissue. In the present study, we attempted a loss-of-function analysis of zebrafish Klf11a and Klf11b, which constitute human KLF10 homologs. Embryos injected with klf11b-morpholino (MO) showed developmental retardation and cell death, whereas klf11a-MO-injected embryos showed normal development. In klf11b-MO-injected embryos, a dramatic increase in the amount of zebrafish p53 mRNA might be the cause of the increase in that of bax. The degree of apoptosis decreased in the klf11b-MO and p53-MO co-injected embryos. These findings imply that KLF10 is a negative regulator of p53-dependent transcription, suggesting that the KLF10/p53 complex may play an important role in apoptosis for maintenance of tissue homeostasis during embryonic development.

Heat transfer augmentation based on the process intensification concept in heat exchangers and thermal reactors has received much attention in recent years, mainly due to energy efficiency and environmental considerations. The concept consists of the development of novel apparatuses and techniques that, compared to those commonly used today, are expected to bring dramatic improvements in manufacturing and processing, substantially decreasing equipment size, energy consumption, and ultimately resulting in cheaper, sustainable technologies. The objective of this paper was to investigate the heat transfer characteristics of tubular thermal reactor using static mixing technology. Glycerin and water were used as the test fluids and water was used as the heating source. The results for heat transfer rate were strongly influenced by tube geometry and flow conditions.

Here I report on how Fourier Transform Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (FTEIS) overcomes the potential-current linearity problem encountered in the impedance calculation process. FTEIS was first invented to solve the time-related drawback of the conventional impedance technique. The dramatic time reduction of FTEIS enabled the real-time impedance measurement but brought about the linearity problem at the same time. While the conventional method circumvents the problem using the steady-state made by a sufficiently long measurement time, FTEIS cannot because of its real-time function. However, according to the mathematical development reported in this article, the potential step used in FTEIS is proved to avoid the linearity problem. During the step period, the potential and the current are linearized by the electrochemical impedance. Also, Fourier transform of the differentiated potential and current is proved to give the same result of the original ones.

The use of fluoride and other preventive methods caused a dramatic decline in dental caries and the need for restorative dentistry. In our modern society that places a high value on appearance, emphasis is now shifting towards esthetic dentistry which has experienced a high popularity with the development of bonding techniques and materials including porcelain and composite. To satisfy patients wanting whiter teeth and a better looking smile, there are many treatment options ranging from full crown coverage to conservative procedures such as bleaching. Whether bleaching should be combined with other esthetic procedures or used alone depends on the type of discoloration and the patient's willingness to accept the various treatment options. Therefore, in order to obtain a successful esthetic outcome, careful diagnosis and treatment planning followed by consultation with the patient is of utmost importance.

This study is about the wedding culture of Seoul and Kyungsangdo. This paper is a qualitative study that is based on interviews. As a result of this study, it became clear that before the industrialization of South Korea, there were different characteristics of wedding culture in each region. However, the unique characteristics of wedding customs in each region have been degenerated or exterminated, in tandem with the influx of customs from other regions, due to the dramatic urbanization of South Korea, and the development of transport and communication that appeared in the process of modernization. Furthermore, wedding customs were transformed from ceremonies based on a regional and kin-based community into those that were no more than mere events, which was derived from the industrialization and urbanization of Korea.

There has been an increasing concern of whether a real instructional change happens in a way to promote students' mathematical development. Against this background, this paper dealt with successes and difficulties an elementary school teacher went through as she moved on to student-centered instruction. The analysis drew on classroom observations for one year to illustrate how the teacher and students established social norms, sociomathematical norms, and classroom mathematical practices that could emphasize mathematical sense-making and justification of ideas. Close analysis showed many gradual but dramatic changes in terms of mathematics classroom culture. This led to consider possibly subtle but crucial issues with regard to implementing student-centered instruction.

Since 1950 there has been a dramatic progress in rationalization of the production of sweet potato and potato starch in Japan. This enabled dextrose industry by enzymatic process to develop rapidly due to the success of enzymatic liquefaction and saccharification. Isomerization of glucose to fructose has been studied, and the immobilization of isomerases prompted its products on industrial scale in 1970. Another advance is the development of effective methods of producing high purity maltose. A malto-hexaose forming amylase was discovered in 1971 and attempts are being made for its pharmaceutical utilization. Saccharification of cellulose by cellulase has been studied. Conversion of starch to other polysaccharides is another example for the numerous Japanese activities.

Dramatic development of information technology requires new type of sales strategy to enterprise S/W dealers. That is, one should thoroughly consider diversified types of enterprise S/W and more elaborated consumer needs to establish successful sales strategy. However, various factors that should be considered in establishing enterprise S/W sales strategy are different according to types of enterprise S/W and hard to be managed systematically which led to the current situation where they have not been discussed enough. Therefore, this study introduced the relationship between the factors that affect selection of enterprise S/W using the concept of cognitive map on various enterprise S/W sales cases. Through this process, this study grouped the cognitive maps of similar cases to introduce their characteristics and made this result to be practically useful to enterprise S/W sales strategy.

A new pump used in arthroscopy surgery was developed. The pump is driven by pneumatic air compressor and controlled by a stepper motor connected to an air regulator. Pressure control performance was observed to be similar compared to commercially available artheroscopy pumps. However, pressure pulses observed in the commercial pumps driven by multiple rollers disappeared in the pneumatically driven pump. The new pump required containers to enclose and squeeze saline solution packs. A dramatic saving in manufacture cost is expected considering the simple pneumatic drive used in this pump.
