  • Recently, the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) has made progress toward resolving low value, high volume disputes in international e-commerce. At the Working Group's 26th session, two draft procedural rules were addressed. The first discussed the draft of Article 9, entitled "Decision by a neutral party." This is based on the suggestion in 26th session to have a "two track" system of ODR, one including negotiation, facilitated settlement, and arbitration phrases, and the other not including an arbitration phase. The second draft procedural rule, draft Article 10, regards the language of proceedings. In most cases of international e-commerce, the decision of language of an ODR proceeding is a matter of importance, for the language parties could differ from each other. This paper examines several implications of UNCITRAL for Korea, which has unstable ODR system.

  • Ship's trim is the one of the most important factor for safety at the sea. Turning circle test and Z-test were carried out to find the effect of ship's trim and draft changes. The results are as follows. 1. If the ship's draft and trim became large, turning circle would be wide. 2. If the ship's draft and trim became large, ship's drift angle would be small. Small drift angle made wide turning circle. 3. Trim by the head made slow ship's final speed when turning circle test. 4. By Z-test, the deeper draft and trim by the stern made small OSA. Small OSA means strong ship's stability. 5. Totally 2nd OSA is smaller than 1st OSA on Z-test. 6. There were small differences of 2nd OSA in trim by the stern, but there were large OSA in trim by the head. 7. The larger trim by the stern, the smaller OSW. The small OSW means better ship's stability and maneuverability.

  • Field experiments were conducted to determine the optimum combination of performance parameters of a single-shank, tractor-mounted oscillating subsoiler. Tests were conducted at frequencies of oscillation of 3.7 , 5.67, 7.58, 9.48 and 11.456Hz ; amplitudes of 18, 21, 23.5, 34 and 36.5 mm ; and forward speeds of 1.84, 2.19 and 3.42 kmph at moisture content close to the plastic limit of the soil. It was observed that there was a reduction in average draft but an a increase in average total power requirement for oscillating than non-oscillating subsoiling. The draft and power ratios were significantly affected by the forward speed, frequency and amplitude. Their combined interaction expressed in terms of the velocity ratio parameter( the ratio of peak tool velocity and forward speed) however has the strongest influence. At the same velocity ratio, the draft reduction and power increase were less at higher amplitude of oscillation . As the oscillating frequency is increased toward the soil resonance the draft requirement becomes less. For the field conditions tested. the optimum operation was obtained at an amplitude of 36.5mm, frequency of 9.48Hz and speed of 2.19 kmph with a draft ratio of 0.33 and a power ratio of only 1.24.

  • Injection-molded products serve a wide range of applications in our modem lives and their significance is ever increasing. However, difficulty of communication among related companies under the present system results in increase of lead time and decrease of production efficiency. The objective of this paper is the development of a web-based draft verification system in mold design processes. Although several commercial CAD systems offer draft verification functions, those systems are very expensive and inadequate to perform collaborative works. For collaborative work under the distributed environment, the proposed system uses native file transforming of CAD data into optimal format by using the ACIS kernel and InterOp. Functions of draft verification modules are constructed over the ActiveX control using the visual C++ and OpenGL. Therefore, collaborators related to the development of a new product are able to verify the draft and undercut over the Internet without commercial CAD systems. The system helps to reduce production cost, errors and lead-time to the market. Performance of the system is confirmed through various case studies.

  • Steady state computations are routinely used by design engineers to evaluate and compare losses in hydraulic components. In the case of the draft tube diffuser, however, experiments have shown that while a significant number of operating conditions can adequately be evaluated using steady state computations, a few operating conditions require unsteady simulations to accurately evaluate losses. This paper presents a study that assesses the predictive capacity of a combination of steady and unsteady RANS numerical computations to predict draft tube losses over the complete range of operation of a Francis turbine. For the prediction of the draft tube performance using k-${\varepsilon}$ turbulence model, a methodology has been proposed to average global performance indicators of steady flow computations such as the pressure recovery factor over an adequate number of periods to obtain correct results. The methodology will be validated using two distinct flow solvers, CFX and OpenFOAM, and through a systematic comparison with experimental results obtained on the FLINDT model draft tube.

  • Present study aims to investigate draft effects on hydro-elastic response of pontoon type VLFS(Very Large Floating Structure). A three dimensional higher-order boundary element method(HOBEM: Hong et al;1999, Choi, Hong and Choi; 2001) is extended to analyze elastic response of structures. Intensive numerical calculations were carried out for box type structure to investigate the draft effect on hydrodynamic forces on pontoon type VLFS. Main attention was paid to wave run-up along the waterline for various cases of draft scantling. It is found that the draft effects on the hydro-elastic response of pontoon type VLFS are important especially in short wave range and shallow water region.

  • In this paper, simulations were carried out to determine the efficiency of the rotation efficiency according to the draft of waterwheel in open rectangular channel. In the small hydroelectric generators to get the highest efficiency of waterwheel is very important. But the presence of various elements(free water surface flow, non-uniform velocity distribution because of the waterways wall friction etc) makes it difficult to create a mathematical formula. In this paper, we made a scale model and perform a physical simulation where the draft, gradient and flux is variable. Scale modelling with 10-step draft, 3-step gradients and 2-step flux, as well were constructed then computerized automatic experimental system were configured to acquire the rotational efficiency vs. draft of itself. Rotational efficiency is analyzed as for the draft of waterwheel using the acquired data by varying the gradient and flux of canal. Reviewing the analyzed data, it is confirmed that phenomena of efficiency shown at previous and present experiment is similar and revealed that computerized system shows more sophisticated numerical figures.

  • This study presents how low quality coal combustion affects the desulfurizer draft system by correlating of draft loss in a coal-fired thermal power plant and predicts the stall occurrence time of a booster fan. In case of low quality coal, a lot of coal is needed to generate equivalent output power, thereby the rating of increasing draft loss was faster than designed amount of coal. We surely confirmed that draft loss affects the specific energy of a booster fan strongly. On this basis, it is possible to predict the occurring time of stall for a booster fan from current operation specific energy to stall limit specific energy. This study suggests increasing speed of draft loss in each caloric value and the impact of specific energy at a booster fan, it expects to help safe operating in a thermal power plant.

  • In this study, I analyzed the effects on stabilizing the draft system, boiler efficiency when changing excess air ratio under 870 MW load limit operation condition in a large capacity coal fired power plant and decided optimum excess air ratio. It is positively necessary to choose adequate excess air ratio for stabilizing draft system because air pre-heater pressure drop and induced draft fan first stall margin are changing when adjusting excess air ratio. This study therefore, measured air pre-heater pressure drop, induced draft fan first stall margin, boiler efficiency, loss and has chosen adequate excess air ratio adjusting excess air ratio from 1.153 to 1.127. So it is recommended that the operation point needs to be changed to 1.127 that is not only to decrease air pre-heater pressure drop and to stabilize draft system and to secure stall margin but also to maintain boiler efficiency to equivalent level.
