This paper discusses how to effectively design a next-generation wireless communication system that can possibly provide very high data-rate transmissions and versatile quality services. In order to accommodate the sophisticated user requirements and diversified user environments of the next-generation systems, it should be designed to take an efficient and flexible structure for multiple access and resource allocation. In addition, the design should be optimized for cost-effective usage of resources and for efficient operation in a multi-cell environment. As orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) has turned out in recent researches to be one of the most promising multiple access techniques that can possibly meet all those requirements through efficient radio spectrum utilization, we take OFDMA as the basic framework in the next-generation wireless communications system design. So, in this paper, we focus on introducing an OFDMA-based downlink system design that employs the techniques of hybrid multiple access (HMA) and frequency group (FG) in conjunction with intra-frequency group averaging (IFGA). The HMA technique combines various multiple access schemes on the basis of OFDMA system, adopting the multiple access scheme that best fits to the given user condition in terms of mobility, service, and environment. The FG concept and IFGA technique help to reduce the feedback overhead of OFDMA system and the other-cell interference (OCI) problem by grouping the sub-carriers based on coherence band-widths and by harmonizing the channel condition and OCI of the grouped sub-carriers.
In this paper, we evaluate the system throughput and the method of optimal wireless resource allocation for the access zone (AZ) and relay zone (RZ) in downlink when the cell coverage is extended using the non-transparent Relay Station (RS) in a 2-hop cellular relay system based on IEEE802.16j, which uses the OFDMA-TDD structure. For the analyses, we first introduce the MAC (Media Access Control) frame structure in the non-transparent mode, then we investigate the interfering elements in both AZ and RZ for the network devices such as the Mobile Station (MS) and RS. Through computer simulation, we analyze the cell coverage extension and system throughput in terms of the distance between Base Station (BS) and RS, then we present the amount of the optimal allocation of wireless resource for the AZ and RZ in downlink using our results.

We propose a random frequency hopping orthogonal frequency division multiple access (RFH-OFDMA) system based on statistical multiplexing for improving downlink user capacity. User capacity is defined as the maximum number of users served with a given basic data-rate in a cell. We compare the downlink user capacity of the proposed RFH-OFDMA system with that of the conventional frequency hopping OFDMA (FH-OFDMA) systems in the worst case where all users are located at the cell boundary. User capacity is limited by either the number of subcarriers or other-cell interference (OCI). Simulation results show that the proposed RFH-OFDMA system can accommodate 262 users in a 3-sectored cell, while the conventional FH-OFDMA systems can accommodate 51 users, when the user channel activity and the required Eb/I0 are 0.1 and 6 dB, respectively, and all users are assumed to be located at the cell boundary.

For the DRT satellite transponder system, BER and total SNR to be required in the earth terminal are evaluated under the condition of HPA nonlinearity in the FBJ(full-band jamming) or PBJ(partial-band jamming) of uplink and downlink. In case that the satellite Inter bandwidth( Ws) is same to the earth terminal bandwidth($W_r$),in conditions of uplink JSR 10[dB], downlink JSR 10[dB] and processing gain 30[dB], linear transponder system shows that uplink SNR needs to be 14.2[dB] to achieve the total SNR 10[dB] requirement in downlink SNR 14[dB]. However, Nonlinear transponder system with OBO(output backoff) 2[dB] requires 20.1 [dB] uplink SNR. From the above results, the nonlinearity of HPA in the satellite transponder causes the degradation of BER performance so that it is of interest to consider the power increase.

Recently, researches about downlink resource allocation algorithms applying SDMA to enhance the system throughput and cell coverage have begun. Most OFDM/SDMA based resource allocation algorithms have some limitations such that those only concentrate on maximizing the system throughput or can be applied in single cell environment. In this paper, we propose an OFDM/SDMA based downlink resource allocation algorithm which considers high layer QoS parameters suitable for the required data traffic and it also minimizes the system throughput loss and considers inter-cell interference from adjacent cells. so it can be adopted in multi-cell environment. We manifest the performance of the proposed algorithm in Ped A and SCME MIMO Channel Model.
This paper designs a data link between a Lunar Orbiter (LO) and an Earth Station (ES), and analyzes the downlink performance of a space communications system for lunar exploration, conforming to the recommendations by the Consultative Committee for Space Data Systems (CCSDS). The results provided in the paper can be useful references for the design of reliable communication link for the Korean lunar exploration in the near future.

In this paper, an adaptive cross-layer resource allocation algorithm for the downlink multi-user OFDM system is proposed. The proposed algorithm does not only concern the wireless characteristics of physical (PHY) layer, but also pays attention to the user's quality of service (QoS) requirement, fairness, and packet queue state information of medium access control (MAC) layer. The algorithm is composed of two parts: one is to decide the priority of the user, and the other is to assign the radio resource according to its priority. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm has both steady QoS and low computation complexity, even though the mobile users have different receiving signal to noise ratio (SNR).
In early 2004, KARI developed 5ft S-Band TT&C antenna for especially KOMPSAT-2 operation in LEOP phase. This paper shows system features of 5ft S-Band antenna and its test result with KOMPSAT-l. Tracking test, command uplink test and telemetry downlink test were performed. Through tests, 5ft antenna was verified to be operational in uplink and downlink with KOMPSAT series. Due to its inherent wide 3dB beam-width of about 7deg at S-Band, this antenna system can be used very effectively even though orbital information is less accurate like LEOP and spacecraft safe mode.
Visible-light communication (VLC) combined with advanced illumination can be expected to become an integral part of next-generation communication networks. One of the major concerns in VLC implementation is developing resource-allocation schemes in a multi-user scenario. However, the scheduling for heterogeneous quality of service (QoS) traffic has not been studied so far, for the indoor VLC downlink system. In this paper, we creatively introduce effective-bandwidth and effective-capacity theory into the multi-user scheduling (MUS) problem, to guarantee the user's statistical delay QoS. We also take account of the aggregate interference (AI) in the indoor VLC downlink system, and analyze its impact on the user-centric MUS problem for the first time. Simulations show that the AI has a nonnegligible influence on the scheduling result, and that the proposed scheduling scheme could guarantee the user's QoS requirement under the premise of ensuring sum capacity.
