  • The quantum efficiencies of photomultiplier tubes were measured by counting the coincidence photon pairs generated in the process of spontaneous parametric down-conversion. They were measured within 3% accuracy over the range of wavelength from 560 to 850 nm without any standard light source or detector. The values for 633 nm correspond to those obtained with a calibrated laser power meter within the measurement error.

  • We demonstrate a next-generation high-capacity mobile fronthaul based on radio over fiber (RoF) technology, which links between a digital unit and a radio unit supporting two frequency assignments and $2{\times}2$ multiple input, multiple output antennas. To confirm the technical feasibility of a mobile fronthaul, we experimentally investigate its down- and uplink end-to-end performances including the optical and radio frequency (RF) signal path. Frequency-dependent performance deviations, error vector magnitude variations, overall system performance variations caused by optical to electrical conversion, and intermediate frequency to RF conversions are examined. Experimental verifications on multiple LTE uplink signals are performed for the first time. We also demonstrate several commercial mobile Internet services, YouTube video streaming, and file transfers using off-the-shelf mobile devices, through a mobile fronthaul based on RoF.

  • A low noise and low power RF front-end for 5.8 GHz DSRC (Dedicated Short Range Communication) receiver is presented. The RF front-end is composed of a single-to-differential two-stage LNA and a Gilbert down-conversion mixer. In order to remove an external balun and 5.8 GHz LC load tuning circuit, a single-to-differential LNA with capacitive cross coupled pair is proposed. The RF front-end is fabricated in a 0.13 ${\mu}m$ CMOS process and draws 7.3 mA from a 1.2 V supply voltage. It shows a voltage gain of 40 dB and a noise figure (NF) lower than 4.5 dB over the entire DSRC band.

  • We study MHD wave propagation in a gravitationally stratified isothermal viscous atmosphere of the Sun, permeated by a uniform magentic field. We perform numerical simulations by launching a slow wave on the upper boundary. The driven slow wave propagates down from low-${\beta}$ to high-${\beta}$ plasma across the region where the plasma ${\beta}$ is unity. It is found that mode conversion takes place at $z{\approx}-1.8$ in the layer ${\beta}{\approx}1$. The amplitudes of horizontal and vertical velocites are smaller than those obtained in the absence of viscosity.

  • In this paper, we demonstrate a fully integrated X-band image rejection down converter, which was developed using InGaP/GaAs HBT MMIC technology, consists of two single-balanced mixers, a differential buffer amplifier, a differential YCO, an LO quadratue generator, a three-stage polyphase filter, and a differential intermediate frequency(IF) amplifier. The X-band image rejection downconverter yields an image rejection ratio of over 25 dB, a conversion gain of over 2.5 dB, and an output-referred 1-dB compression power$(P_{1dB,OUT})$ of - 10 dBm. This downconverter achieves broadband image rejection characteristics over a frequency range of 1.1 GHz with a current consumption of 60 mA from a 3-V supply.

  • This paper presents the design considerations and analysis for an interleaved boundary conduction mode power factor correction buck converter. A thorough analysis of the harmonic content of the AC line current is presented to examine the allowable voltage gain (K value) for meeting the EN61000-3-2, Class D standard while maximizing efficiency. The results of the harmonic analysis are used to derive the required value of K and therefore the output voltage necessary to meet the class D requirements for a given AC line voltage. The discussed design consideration and harmonic current analysis are verified on a 300W universal line experimental prototype converter with an 80V output. The measured efficiencies remain above 96% down to 20% of the full load. The input current harmonics also meet the IEC61000-3-2 (class D) standard.

  • This paper proposes residential hybrid distribution system that can supply AC power and DC power to AC load and DC load at the same time. This hybrid distribution system consists of three parts: bidirectional inverter, step-up converter and step-down converter. Also that is used to supply voltage to home application is classified of AC load and DC load as load characteristics. The performance of proposed hybrid distribution system is validated through the hardware implementation and the experimental results.

  • Saururus chinensis has been reported to contain compounds such as lignans, alkaloids, diterpenes, flavonoids, tannins, steroids, and lipids. Fermentation is commonly used to break down certain undesirable compounds, to induce effective microbial conversion, and to improve the potential nutraceutical values. Previous studies have reported that the fermentation process could modify naturally occurring constituents, including isoflavons, saponins, phytosterols, and phenols, and could enhance biological activities, specifically antioxidant and antimicrobial properties. The probiotic strains used for fermentation exert beneficial effects and are safe. In this study, the antioxidative effects of the Bacillus subtilis fermentation of Saururus chinensis were investigated in a rat model with Triton WR-1339-induced hyperlipidemia by comparing the measured antioxidative biological parameters of fermented Saururus chinensis extract to those of nonfermented Saururus chinensis extract. Fermentation played a more excellent role than nonfermentation in ultimately protecting the body from oxidative stress in the liver of the experimental rats with Triton WR-1339-induced hyperlipidemia.

  • This paper presents two voltage domain stacking topologies for powering integrated digital loads such as multiprocessors or 3D integrated circuits. Pairs of loads and capacitors are connected in series to form a stack of voltage domains. The voltage is balanced by switching the position of the capacitors in one case and the position of the loads in the other case. This method makes the voltage regulation robust to large differential load power consumption. The first configuration can be named the load stacking topology. The second configuration can be named the capacitor stacking topology. This paper aims at proposing and comparing these two topologies. Models of both topologies and a switching scheme are presented. The behavior, control scheme, losses and overall performance are analyzed and compared theoretically in simulation and experiments. Experimental results show that the capacitor stacking topology has better performance with a 30% voltage ripple reduction.

  • A two-photon interference experiment is presented in which an entangled pair of photons generated from a parametric down-conversion was incident on two input ports of a Mach-Zehnder interferometer. The experiment was carried out using two photon coincidence detection with two detectors at the two output ports of the interferometer. The measured coincidence counts exhibit an interference effect with visibility of 0.75 at simultaneous inputs and 0.38 at inputs with different arrival times according to the degree of photon number entanglement.
