  • Many efforts have focused on the improvement of power density and efficiency by downsizing the motor and inverter. Recently, Toyota, Honda, and GM realized that the compact-sized motor uses the hairpin structure with increased space factor. Reducing the maximum torque from high-speed technique also makes it possible to design the high-power density model. Toyota and Honda used the newly developed power semiconductor IGBT to decrease conduction loss for high-efficiency inverter. In particular, Toyota used the boost converter to increase the DC link voltage for high efficiency in low-torque high-speed region. Toyota and GM also used the double-sided cooling structure for miniaturization of inverter for high-power density.

The Influence of Stator Pole Shape and Its Arrangements on Cogging Torque for Double-sided AFPM Generator

  • In this paper, the cogging torques were calculated for 1kw double-sided axial flux permanent magnet (AFPM) generator with different stator core pole arrangements. The generator is composed of 18 stator pole and 24 rotating field magnets on each side. The cogging torques of the generator with three types of arrangements of stator poles were calculated using 3D finite element method and the optimum core shape was determined to minimize the cogging torque.

  • This paper presents the characteristic analysis of Double-Sided Linear Synchronous Generator for wave power generation under different operating conditions. FEM is applied to analyze performance of generator at no-load and load with variable resistance. Moreover, the validity of characteristic analysis is confirmed through the experimental work.

  • Using a single LC panel and two lighting systems, we have developed an advanced LCD system called "Double-Sided LCD." It has only one LC panel and two lighting systems, but it can display images of the same size and resolution on both the front and the rear side. Furthermore, utilizing a simple and thin lighting system we have reduced dramatically its module thickness up to 3.0mm, much thinner than that of conventional dual-type LCD, which is quite appropriate for the use of mobile applications.

  • In this work, we have proposed a method for calculating the residual stress developed during the PCB thermo-compression bonding precess. Residual stress is the most important factor that causes PCB warpage in accordance with the pattern design. In this work, a single-layed double-sided PCB, which is comprised of the dielectric (FR-4) substrate in the middle and copper cladding on the both top and bottom sides, is considered. A reference temperature, where all stress is free, is calculated by comparing the calculated and measured warapge of a PCB of which copper cladding of the top side is removed. Then, the reesidual stress values is calculated for the double-sided PCB.

  • In this paper, the equation for the generated force is introduced, on the basis of Maxwell's electromagnetic equation, by dividing the air-gap magnetic field into the region of the constant amplitude and the region of the pulsating field in the both ends of iron core, in the case that the typical 3 phase winding is employed in the double sided 3 phase linear induction motor with sheet rotor in accrodance with the winding method of rotary induction machine. With the effect of the overhang region being taken into account, the result, in which the equation is established, inducates that theoretical values nearly coincides with the measured values in the interval of slip s=0-0.8.

  • Variable Structure Control(VSC) scheme with sliding mode is widely used to keep a control system insensitive to parameter variations and disturbances. However, the conventional sliding mode control has the undesired phenomenon of chattering which may become a serious problem. Also the restriction of the sliding mode regime cannot guarantee the insensitivity throughout an entire response. In this paper, the sliding surfaces, which are composed of three-line segments, are used to remove the reaching phase. Also, the concept of fuzzy logic is incorporated with the sliding mode control in order to control the unknown or partially known systems effectively. The proposed method is applied to a Double-Sided MM Type LDM to show its usefulness.

  • In this study, to overcome the limitation of material application as the surface layer of bridge decks (asphalt concrete, concrete), a newly developed waterproof sheet is proposed to be usable for both asphalt concrete and concrete. Subsequent tensile bond strength was tested, and the test results showed that the tensile bond strengths were similar to depending on the type of the surface layer material for bridge decks, confirming the applicability of the proposed material.

  • This paper proposes a tow-dimensional magnetic flux distribution analysis of the double-sided linear induction motor(DLIM). Both the longitudinal end-effect and the transverse edge-effect, which are due to the finite length and width of the primary stator, are considered. Also each force which is due to the variation of slip frequency was computed to show the fact that the thrust force of DLIM is dependent on both the longitudinal end-effect and the transverse edge-effect. To ascertain the propriety of this analysis, the simulated results of the magnetic flux density distribution in the airgap are compared to the experimental data.

  • The aim of this paper is to propose a design method for the double-sided LCC compensation circuit for 6.6kW electric vehicle (EVs) wireless charger. The analysis and comparison with several compensation topologies such as SS, SP, PS, PP and the hybrid LCC compensation is presented. It has been found that the hybrid LCC compensation has superior performance in comparison with other topologies. The design procedure for the EV charger is presented and the PSIM simulation results are provided.
