Design and Implementation of a Mobile Web Services for Supporting Dormitory Works (기숙사 업무 지원을 위한 모바일 웹 서비스 설계 및 구현)

  • With the rapid increase in supplying and applying of mobile devices major student services in colleges are provided in mobile device-based ones. In this paper we describe a design and implementation of a dormitory works supporting service system based on mobile web to efficiently assist dormitory business and provide student convenient services especially for dormitory type public schools and colleges requiring a strict student management. The proposed system, first, improves the effectiveness of work processing, such as roll call, sleep out handling, in the aspect of business management. Second students satisfaction level is increased as giving them access under Web by providing mobile web environment. We operated the proposed system over a college dormitory living around 250 students for a semester and evaluated its usefulness by conducting a questionnaire survey.

Affecting Factors on the Living Satisfaction Degree in University Dormitory's Service: Focusing on the Foreign Students of "G" University (대학교 기숙사 생활 만족도에 영향을 미치는 요인: G대학 외국인 학생을 중심으로)

  • Government and many universities have been trying to get the more international students. Foreign students in university are increasing remarkably in Korea. So these authorities have to consider their service competency for new foreign student's living satisfaction. In this paper, we described about the living satisfaction degree on the university dormitory's service in Korea. After reviewing and summarizing the related literatures, our hypotheses are established which the satisfaction be affected by some service factors such as facility, foods, and noise factors in university dormitory's environments. The 99 Chinese students living in G-university dormitory responded to our study. Empirical analysis was performed among a university in Sungnam city named as G-university by using questionnaires sheets. Analysis results are show that satisfaction degree on the university dormitory's service is affected significantly by facility and foods service factors respectively. However noise factor was not the significant variable.

  • The Korean government has recently implemented the public policy, so-called the Dormitory-based Public High-School Operation. The policy aims at providing the community-based high-quality education for the high-school students in the regional areas including agricultural, sea-side, and mountainous territories. Since the schools will be open for 24 hours a day during a whole year, they need to develop educational programs after regular school hours and violence prevention systems to maintain stable surroundings for study. In doing so, it is required for the schools to set up a systematic dormitory operation & administration program reflecting the demands of the dormitory users. Most of the schools, however, have not experienced operating a dormitory, thereby do not have any clues to successfully build the dormitory system. The main objective of this research is not only to provide the information on the demands of the dormitory users and their concerns with the demands but also to suggest guidelines to better build the system through conducting questionnaire survey to the students in a currently operated dormitory-based high-school.

The mediating effects of the interpersonal problems in the relationship between depression and smartphone addiction of college student living in a dormitory (대학 기숙사생의 우울과 스마트폰 중독과의 관계에서 대인관계 문제의 매개효과)

  • This study focuses on the mediating effects of the interpersonal problems in the relationship between depression and smartphone addiction of college student living in a dormitory. The subject group was consist of students living in a dormitory among the college students in K city. The final 1,016 questionnaires were used as research data. The data analysis used correlation analysis, regression analysis, and Sobel test. The results showed depression, interpersonal problems and smartphone addiction were significantly correlated, and depression had a direct effect on smartphone addiction. In other words, the higher the level of depression, the higher the level of smartphone addiction of college students. Interpersonal problems was partially mediated between depression and smartphone addiction. Therefore, in order to decrease the level of college student's depression and smartphone addiction, it is necessary to develop and implement a program or counseling that can handle interpersonal problems as one of the strategies that can decrease the level of smartphone addiction. Discussed the use of research results and future research.

A Study on Introduction of Student Volunteer Fire Department in Dormitory far from Fire Station (근접성이 불리한 대학 기숙사의 학생 의용소방대 도입에 관한 연구)

  • The university dormitory have various functions and large floating population so in the occurrence of fire, there could be heavy casualties. Also, when university dormitory is located far from fire station, it is difficult to fire brigade arrives on Golden Time. Therefore, university dormitory need response capabilities for fire by itself. This study conducted a simulation experiment on those residing in K University dormitory in Gangwon-do, where site proximity is unfavorable, to observe evacuation characteristics of the occupants. As a result, evacuation is delayed due to a lack of evacuation routes and administrator, some students lack of fire awareness. Also fire brigade didn't arrive on Golden Time. Therefore, to resolve problems it is proposed that a student fire volunteer department.

The Planning of Common and Living Space in the Dormitory Buildings on Campus - Focused on the Dormitory Buildings in Chung-chung Province - (대학기숙사의 공용 및 개인생활공간 계획 - 충청권 소재 대학기숙사 사례를 중심으로 -)

  • This study aims to investigate planning characteristics of common and living space in the dormitory buildings on campus in Chungcheong province. A document research method was used to analyze and classified into floor-plan, zoning and area. Also site visits were conducted at 8 dormitory buildings of 4 universities, and drawings were collected and compared for this research. The results of this study were as follows; 1)Most floor plans of public spaces had corridor types and integrated public space types. The typical floorplan of living space was 2person-1bedroom and apartment type which shared livingroom, bathroom, restroom and shower between bedrooms. The living space type of dormitory buildings was more complex and growth in size. Unit community combined 2-4person per 1bedroom in floor plan can help student with identity and affiliated formation. 2)The types of the spatial composition in public spaces were devided into three zones; study, living and administrative zones such as seminar room, public bathroom and storage, etc. This results shows that various types of public space for the improvement of community of small group has recently become more important than basic sanitary space in public space of dormitory buildings on campus.

Study of the Dormitory Architecture of Governmental Secondary Schools in the Japanese Colonial Era (일제 강점기 관립 중등학교 기숙사 건축에 관한 연구)

  • This study reviewed the planning characteristics of dormitories for secondary schools in the Japanese Colonial Era by analyzing the architectural drawings collected by the National Archives of Korea. The dormitory was one of the essential facilities in secondary schools but there have been few studies in this area. The analysis items were the site plan and the planning characteristics of student bedrooms, dining hall, and supervisor's area, which were the main elements of the dormitory. The results of this study were summarized as follows. 1) Generally, the dormitory area was placed in the rear of buildings for teaching with a close connection. 2) The student bedroom wings were laid out in parallel to the south as a rule making the typical site plan pattern for a dormitory, whereas the other parts of dormitory, such as the dining hall and supervisor's area were placed in the site conditions. 3) Generally, the unit plans of bedrooms for Korean schools were the ondol type and were small in size, whereas those for Japanese were the tatami type and large in size with separate study and sleeping areas. 4) The dining hall annex was made up of a dining hall and kitchen-bathroom area in general. For Japanese schools, the school store area was added to these areas. The typical shapes of dining hall plans were narrow and long with an adjacent corridor, so the overall plan of the dining hall annex was like that of a single-corridor type block plan. 5) The supervisor's area was a smaller part of the dormitory but it was considered to be a symbolic part of the whole dormitory in site planning and design.

Relationship between Stress Symptoms and Health Promoting Behaviors for University Students by the Type of Residence (대학생들의 거주형태에 따른 스트레스 증상과 건강증진행위와의 관계)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between stress symptoms and health-promoting behaviors (HPB) among two residence groups of university students. Data were collected by questionnaires from 313 students living in a dormitory and 281 students not living in a dormitory. Data were collected from October 21 to November 20, 2015. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and stepwise multiple regression. Dormitory residents presented higher HPB scores among both genders. For dormitory residents, smoking and drinking affected the HPB, and for non-dormitory residents, scholastic achievement and health status affected the HPB significantly. HPB had significantly negative correlations with depression, anxiety, and anger for dormitory residents and with cognitive disorganization, depression, and anger for non-dormitory residents. The results of multiple regression analysis show that the significant factors for dormitory students in order of importance were depression, anger, and anxiety, and the variance was 67%. For non-dormitory students, the significant factors were depression and anger with a variance of 63%. The results suggest that it is necessary to develop a suitable HPB program for university students.

The Development of a Dormitory Management System Using the Ubiquitous and Automation Technology (유비쿼터스와 자동화 기술을 이용한 기숙사 관리 시스템 개발)

  • Today the use of RFID is extended in medical. circulation market, manufacture, security field, etc. Besides, the book-lending and the attendance management system are on an increasing trend in the use of RFID The developed dormitory management system is composed of a support program, a room management program, a manager program, and a mobile program etc.. In the support program a student(or a manager) can see his(or all member's) entrance and exit history. The room management program decides whether a student can enter the dormitory or not and manages the use of the power after or inquiring a RFID's input tag information into database server. The manager program is able to input and modify a room state and the fixtures information in the room required to operate the room management program, to set up and retrieve a student's entrance and exit information and a room state information. The mobile program enables a manager to check student's identity whether he is in or out, and the manager can know the personal information of being out in detail.

An analysis of the Management of University Dormitories to enhance the Welfare of University Students (대학생 생활복지 향상을 위한 기숙사 관리현황분석)

  • This study analyzes data on the management of university dormitories and provides information to enhance university students' welfare. The data used in this study are from the Korean University Dormitory Administrator Conference, which surveyed 71 universities in a year of 2001, 70 universities in 2002, and 82 universities in 2003. The data analysis was conducted with descriptive statistics, One-way ANOVA, Duncan's multiple range test. The results are as follows; 1. Most dormitories had less than 500 residents, which account for below 10% of each university's overall student enrollment. The fact reveals that the capacity of most dormitories is too small considering overall student enrollment. 2. Freshmen took up the highest rate of the dorm residents and seniors did the lowest. Dorm residents had various kinds of events and parties, such as "Open House" and "Welcome Party." 3. Maintenance expense and price of meals tended to increase, whereas self-government membership fee and deposit for facility use decreased. 4. Minimum needs of the dorm residents were satisfactorily met, but more subsidiary facilities for residents' welfare needed establishing.
