In this paper a hierarchical stereo matching algorithm based on feature extraction is proposed. The boundary (edge) as feature point in an image is first obtained by segmenting an image into red, green, blue and white regions. With the obtained boundary information, disparities are extracted by matching window on the image boundary, and the initial disparity map is generated when assigned the same disparity to neighbor pixels. The final disparity map is created with the initial disparity. The regions with the same initial disparity are classified into the regions with the same color and we search the disparity again in each region with the same color by changing block size and search range. The experiment results are evaluated on the Middlebury data set and it show that the proposed algorithm performed better than a phase based algorithm in the sense that only about 14% of the disparities for the entire image are inaccurate in the final disparity map. Furthermore, it was verified that the boundary of each region with the same disparity was clearly distinguished.

The accuracy of the position fixing with telemetry techniques depends in general on the accuracy of the location of the receiving point(hydrophone). To increase the accuracy of the coordinates of four hydrophones suspended down at both sides of the vessel anchored, each hydrophone motion is compensated using a depth pinger mounted on the seabed of 30m depth. The pinger location is calculated with a hyperbolic method. Using this technique so called hydrophone coordinates calibration, the movement of the Remotely Operated Vehicle(ROV), which has the same type of pinger mentioned above could be tracked down more accurately. Under the maximum variation ranges of a hydrophone of 5.2m in athwartships, 3.2m in alongship, and about 0.2m/s of the moving velocity in both directions, the ROV track with calibration is more close to the reality than that without calibration Tow depth pingers of same frequency can be distinguished by the use of three factors; The pulse period, the phase and the pulse period variation allowed in acquisition of the pinger as far as its pulse period is varied in smooth.

Melting and re-solidification nature of $SmBa_2Cu_3O_{7-y}$ (Sm123) grains in Ba-Cu-O (Ba:Cu=3:5) liquid containing 0.7 at.% yttrium were investigated at the temperature lower than its melt point. When Sm123 grains/liquid powder compacts were heated to a temperature between two melting points of Ba-Cu-O liquid ($1000^{\circ}C$) and a Sm123 phase ($1060^{\circ}C$) and held at this temperature for appropriate time, Sm123 grains melted partly in the liquid that was formed by melting of the liquid-forming powder. During subsequent slow cooling, (Sm,Y)$Ba_2Cu_3O_{7-y}$ solidified at the outer parts of the unmelted Sm12 grains, which is distinguished from the core regions by lower $Sm_2BaCuO_5$ (211) density.

This paper describes a diagnosis of transformer by ultrasonic signal due to partial discharge. The ultrasonic signal can be measured when partial discharge is generated in a real transformer. The trend of partial discharge in transformer was estimated by counting the number of ultrasonic signals until insulation paper in the point-to-plane electrode is destroyed. The number of ultrasonic signals is closely related to the number of the electrical signals by partial discharge. The trend of the ultrasonic signal number could easily be distinguished by taking moving average.

This paper describes a diagnostic technique of power transformers by on-line detection of ultrasonic signals. A trend of partial discharge variation in a real transformer was estimated by counting the number of ultrasonic signals until insulation paper in the point-to-plane electrode is punctured. The number of electrical signals is closely related to the ultrasonic signals generated by partial discharge. The trend of the ultrasonic signal number could easily be distinguished by taking moving average. The insulation failure due to partial discharge in transformers can be predicted based on the trend analysis of ultrasonic signal number caused by partial discharge. (author). 14 refs., 10 figs.

A suspension bridge with long span is distinguished by aesthetic point of view, but it is difficult to analyze the structural behaviors due to its geometric nonlinear characteristics. Futhermore, because the chance of design such special bridges is very rare, the assumption of initial dimensions of geometrical shapes and structural sections may be much difficult also. In this paper, the brief data base on the important structural dimensions of suspension bridges is constructed after the informations on existing suspension bridges are collected and classified from various texts and internet web sites. Therefore this data base may be utilized very easily by the designers who tries to design such bridges in the preliminary design step. Also the static geometric nonlinear analysis program is added to assist the designer in simple decision of safety check for assumed dimensions.

In this paper, computerized BEAM was implemented for the space domain analysis of EEG. Transformation from temporal summation to two-dimensional mappings is formed by 4 nearest point interpolaton method. Methods of representation of BEAM are two. One is dot density method which classify brain electrical potential 9 levels by dot density of gray levels and the other is colour method which classify brain electrical 12 levels by red-green colours. In this BEAM, instantaneous change and average energy distribution over any arbitrary time interval of brain electrical activity could be observed and analyzed easily. In the frequency domain, the distribution of energy spectrum of a special band can easily be distinguished normality and abnormality.

The genus Parorthocladius is a small group among the subfamily Orthocladiinae (Diptera: Chironomidae). A total of ten species of Parorthocladius have been recorded in the world, of which two species were found from Japan, three species from China, and three species from the Russian Far East. Only one species, P. nudipennis is widely distributed in Europe and the Russian Far East. This genus can be distinguished from other genera by the absence of acrostichals on the thorax, wing vein R4+5 ending proximal to the tip of vein M3+4, anal point parallel side, rounded apically. We report four new species of Parorthocladius collected in Korea and described them with illustrations. As a result, fourteen species of Parorthocladius have been recorded in the world.

Two cymothoid isopods, Rocinela niponia Richradson, 1909 and Bopyrus squillarum Latreille, 1802, are first reported from Korean waters. Rocinela niponia can be distinguished from its congeners by the following characteristics: the rostral point is round; the eyes are separated from each other; and each pereopods 1-3 has the propodal blade bearing eight robust setae. Bopyrus squillarum is distinguishable from its related species by the following characteristics: the head is separated from pereonite 1, but partially fused on the lateral margins; the first pleonite on the short side is much smaller than other segments; and it is parasitic on the branchial chamber of Palaemon serrifer. Detailed descriptions and figures of these two species are provided in this paper.
