영문학자 프랑코 모레티(Franco Moretti)의 연구는 문학의 여러 방면에서 두드러진다. 교양소설 혹은 성장소설에 관한 독특한 해석, 세계문학을 보는 새로운 시각, 디지털 아카이브를 구축하여 문학사를 다시 읽는 방법, 또한 그러한 거시적인 방법을 통해 던지는 사회비평 등등, 폭 넓은 시야와 심도 있는 분석으로 다방면에 족적을 남겼다. 본 논문은 모레티의 세계문학론을, 그가 제안한 '멀리서 읽기'(distant reading)라는 거시적 방법론과 그 사례들을 살피며 타진해보고자 한다. 그의 방법론은 문학사에서 잊힌 비정전을 포함하여 거시적인 아카이브를 구성하고, 그 안에서 반복적으로 등장하는 현상을 하나의 계열로 묶어, 그 패턴의 형태적 의미를 파악하는 방식이다. 이 방법이 구체적으로 적용된 사례가 "그래프, 지도, 나무"(Graphs, Maps, Trees)라는 책이다. 이에 본 논문은 그 책에 초점을 맞추어 그가 제시한 형태론적 세계문학을 비판적으로 이해한다. 비판의 시각은 매체론, 특히 한국문학의 매체론적 관점이다. 신문과 잡지와 같은 매체에 대한 관심은 괴테가 세계문학론을 제창했을 때부터 있었고, 특히 미국의 영문학에서는 최근 정기간행물 연구(periodical studies)라는 영역이 새롭게 개척되어 다시금 주목받고 있다. 또한 한국문학에서는 서구 문예 수입, 장르의 형성, 문학의 사상화(思想化), 출판시장의 분화, 작가 등단 제도 등 근대문학 형성에 있어서 신문과 잡지와 같은 정기간행물, 혹은 매체의 역할은 따로 떼어놓고 생각할 수 없다. 따라서 본 논문은 모레티의 세계문학론과 세계문학 연구를 위한 방법으로 제시된 '멀리서 읽기'를, 매체론의 한 사례인 한국 근대문학의 입장에서 바라보고, 그가 간과하고 있는 측면(문학지식의 계열화에 수반되는 물적 토대)에 근거하여 몇 가지 문제제기를 하려 한다.

The power strength of electric wave of reader looked radiation forms from the gate type RFID system. The more distant from antennas, the weaker of power strength of electric wave. The power strength of electric wave with 3 antennas showed stronger than its with 2 antennas. With 2 antennas, the coefficient of correlation between the power strength of electric wave and response ability of tag was 0.665 (p=0.009), and it showed results at significance level. With 3 antennas, the coefficient of correlation was 0.711 (p=0.004), correlationship between the power strength of electric wave and the response ability of tag showed at significance high level. From the analysis result about tag reading performance on the gate type RFID system, the reading rate was good when tags were attached on a acrylic plate which were located in front of 3 or 4 antennas. As tags were getting away from antennas, the reading rate was decreased. The nearer from antennas, the higher the reading rate at the center. When tags were turned at right angles with antennas, the longer distant from antennas, the lower reading rates at the center, right and left locations. When the number of antennas and distance are constant, respectively, the significant difference of the tag reading rates according to the locations of left, right and center were not found.

This essay questions and attempts to answer why and how Shakespeare set his plays in time and space other than his own England. Bakhtin's concept of chronotope as integrated time-space offers a model of establishing "a historical poetics." Shakespeare's chronotope has been either negated as mere names for transcendental ideas by universalists, or reduced to a "cover" for contemporary England by historicists. Refuting such either/or approach, this essay claims chronotopic dynamics of both/and as Shakespeare's intentional poetics of ambiguity. While Shakespeare clearly wants to build fictional chronotope distant from reality and does so through verbal repetition, character names, alternation of locales and speaking directly to the audience, he also brings in reality through the figure of clowns and the theatrical space of platea. Anachronism and topological errors ensuing from chronotopic collision register desire to produce multiple meanings. Shaped by historical forces such as Renaissance poetics, education, censorship and new geography, chronotopic form itself is a witness of historicity as much as the coded ideological messages New Historicists industriously delve out. Shakespeare's chronotopic dynamism offers the space for dialogue and appropriation to modern readers, a practice no less worthwhile than history lesson.

Lipomyces starkeyi produces a novel glucanhydrolase containing endo-dextranase and ${\alpha}-amylase$ activities. A cDNA from L. starkeyi encoding a dextranase was isolated and characterized. The 2,052 kb cDNA fragment (lsd1) carrying dextranase gene showed one open reading frame (ORF) composed of 1,824 bp flanked by a 41 bp 5'-UTR and a 184 bp 3'-UTR including a poly(A) tail of 27 bp. The ORF encodes for a 608 amino acid with a predicted molecular mass of 67.6 kDa. There was 77% deduced amino acid sequence identity between the LSD1 dextranase and the dextranase from Penicillium minioluteum. The primary structure of the dextranase from L. starkeyi has distant similarity with enzymes belonging to glycosyl hydrolase family 49. The lsd1 protein was expressed in the Saccharmyces cerevisiae under control of GAL1 promoter and active dextranase was produced.

Severe acute respiratory syndrome-associated coronavirus (SARS-CoV), a distant member of the Group 2 coronaviruses, has recently been identified as the etiological agent of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS). The genome of SARS-CoV contains four structural genes that are homologous to genes found in other coronaviruses, as well as six subgroup-specific open reading frames (ORFs). ORF3 encodes a predicted 154-amino-acid protein that lacks similarity to any known protein, and is designated 3b in this article. We reported previously that SARS-CoV 3b is predominantly localized in the nucleolus, and induces G0/G1 arrest and apoptosis in transfected cells. In this study, we show that SARS-CoV 3b fused with EGFP at its N- or C- terminus co-localized with a mitochondriaspecific marker in some transfected cells. Mutation analysis of SARS-CoV 3b revealed that the domain spanning amino acids 80 to 138 was essential for its mitochondria localization. These results provide new directions for studies of the role of SARS-CoV 3b protein in SARS pathogenesis.

공자는 종종 중국 정치 전통이 가진 보수성의 상징으로서 다루어졌고, 그에 따라 혹독한 비판대상이 되었다. 공자가 상징한다는 "보수성"을 어떻게 정의하든 관계없이, 공히 지적되어 온 점은 논어(論語)의 내용이 과거의 전통에 대한 존숭의 태도를 공공연하게 표명하고 있다는 사실이다. 그런데 공자의 보수성에 대한 논란을 근본적으로 재고하게끔 만드는 흥미로운 고고학적 성과가 근년에 제출되었다. 고고학자 폴켄하우젠(Lothar von Falkenhausen)은 그간 중국 내외에서 진행된 청동기 유물 고증을 치밀하게 종합하여, 공자가 주공(周公) 당시에 융성했다고 간주하고 자신이 계승하겠다고 천명한 이상적 문화의 모습이, 공자가 말한 것보다는 훨씬 근과거에 일어난 것임을 보여주었던 것이다. 따라서 본 논문은 고고학적 연구를 통해 불거진 모순을 계기로 하여, 공자의 "보수성"과 관련되어 논의되어온 논어의 핵심 부분을 재해석하여, 공자가 "과거" 혹은 "전통"과 맺은 관계를 보다 풍요롭게 해명하고자 한다. 그리고 그와 같은 과정을 통해 해명된 내용은 공자의 정치적 비전을 새롭게 조명할 기회를 부여할 것으로 기대한다.

When literatures and cultures encounter their counterparts in terms of the big data or statistics of a new reconfiguration in the cognitive map, the tangential points of the borderland will be reduced to what Mitchell calls "a mere abstraction on a map," which nevertheless will provide a vast interstitial zone of "intersections, competition, and exclusions." This zone will be the dynamic vortex for the aesthetics, politics, and ethics of cultural translation. The translated discourse will engage in carrying across the disturbing region of untranslatability and demonstrate how the literary texts of world literature reveal enriching but threatening human experience. This dynamic border of vortex will construct the translational space of world literature, transcending the fragmentary untranslatable nature of the hybrid convergence of the ethnic, racial, cultural and national intermixtures and constructing what Pascal Casanova terms "The World Republic of Letters." In this paper, I will demonstrate how the very concept of scale is related to literary space as well as how distance creates a poetics of literary landscapes which looks ahead of world literature. Also, I will attempt to find the possibility to relate the "micro-scale" with the "macro-scale," and to construct the scale politics of representation. "Glocalization" is a convenient theoretical tool for the double movement of the up-scale and down-scale.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to explore the trends of acupoints used for lumbar HIVD(Herniated Intervertebral Disc) and treatment and anatomical location of Hwatahyeopcheock. Methods : We searched the latest clinical studies on acupuncture treatment for lumbar HIVD(Herniated Intervertebral Disc) through domestic studies search. To analyze the data, we categorized them by year and article types of literatures and investigated often-used acupoints and acupuncture types for treatment by reading treatment part of every paper searched. Domestic and Chinese literatures related to Hwatahyeopcheock were also studied for its anatomical location. Results : Total 50 articles are searched and local points are more used than distant points for lumbar HIVD(Herniated Intervertebral Disc) and most of them showed curative effects. Back-su points were used the most and Hwatahyeopcheock use accounted for one-third of the articles. In the articles of Hwatahyeopcheock use, except for one, patients complained of both low back pain and radiating pain, and all of them showed positive results after treatment. Conclusions : Back su point is considered to have its meaning as physical region where patients feel pain including herniated disc level rather than the effect meridian system makes. Through document research and meridian muscle theory, we found that Hwatahyeopcheock means vertebral facet joint, intervertebral foramen and surrounding muscle, nerve, blood vessel and related spinal nerves.

퇴계가 추구한 삶의 모습은 글자 그대로 '열락군자(說樂君子)'였다. '학이시습지(學而時習之)' 의 기쁨은 학자(學者)라면 누구나 누리는 기쁨일 것이다. 그러나 창자 속의 더러운 피를 세척하고 중인(衆人)들이 맛보지 못한 기쁨을 맛보는 '참된 기쁨' 또는 구습(舊習)이나 속기(俗氣)를 모두 씻어내야만 깨닫게 되는 '참된 소식'은 아무나 누릴 수 있는 것이 아니다. '유붕자원방래(有朋自遠方來)'의 즐거움은 대부분의 사람들이 염원하는 즐거움일 것이다. 학문(學問)과 수양(修養)의 장소로 산림(山林)을 선호한 것은 사실 대부분의 유학자(儒學者)들에게 공통되는 것이었다. 그런데 퇴계는 특히 산림지락(山林之樂) 자체의 의의를 깊이 체인하여, 소요(逍遙)에 독서(讀書)와 맞먹는 의미를 부여했다. '인부지이불온(人不知而不?)'은 누구에게도 쉽지 않은 경지이다. 그러나 퇴계는 세간의 훼예영욕(毁譽榮辱)에 초연(超然)하게 대처하면서, 모든 것을 사양했다. 그런데 퇴계는 사후(死後)에 모든 것을 다 얻었다. 또 퇴계는 '사양함으로써 얻은 것'이기에, 후세의 사람들이 모두 칭송할 뿐 아무도 퇴계를 원망하지 않게 된 것이다.
