3-D Simulation of T-Shaped Electrode and Comparison of Results with Experiments

  • Numerical simulation is one of the most useful tools to study gas discharge phenomena that occur in alternating current plasma display panel (AC-PDP) cell. Most PDP cell simulations have been performed for two-dimensional cell, is cross-section along the address electrode. We developed a three-dimensional PDP simulator and applied it to a T-shaped electrode cell in order to show the effects of sustain electrode shape that cannot be included in two-dimensional simulation. The dependence of power consumption on electrode shape and area in the simulation showed the same trend as experiment.

  • The discharge condition of Plasma display panel(PDP) changes as the display time increases. Imaginary part of permittivity of dielectric material which is related to dielectric loss has been often neglected because of relatively small value compare to that of the real part. The thermal characteristics of PDPs with two different dielectrics has been studied and compared.

  • Lowering the dielectric constant is one of the important issues for the efficiency and the power consumption in the plasma display panel (PDP) industry. This study examined the effect of the addition of ceramic filler (up to 10% of crystalline and amorphous silica, respectively) to a $B_2O_3$-ZnO- $P_2O_5$ glass matrix on the dielectric, coefficient of thermal expansion, etching behaviors and residual stress for the barrier ribs in plasma display panels. The dielectric constant of barrier ribs is affected by containing two types of $SiO_2$ filler for the barrier rib composition in PDP.

  • The addressing time can be reduced by modifying cell structure and/or driving circuits in order to replace the dual scan system by single scan in large ac plasma display panel(PDP). Moreover, the luminance of the PDP can also be increased by decreasing the addressing time. In this paper, various shapes of bus and address electrodes have been investigated with the aim of reducing the addressing time in ADS driving method. The experimental results show that the addressing time can be reduced by more than 30% compared with the conventional type by modifying the electrodes without reducing the luminance of the PDP.

  • A dot matrix type DC Plasma Display Panel was fabricated and it's characteristics was investigated. Paschen curve and I-V curve of various gas mixture was given. Optimal gas mixing ratio, pressure and operating point was determined. The priming effect was observed and discharge delay time was measured with varing applied voltage, priming current, priming distance, duty ratio.

AC-PDP Sustain Driver using Bidirectional Switches

  • To minimize the cost and power consumption of PDP TV, a practical sustain circuit topology is presented with an address-and-display-period-separated driving scheme. The proposed sustain driver employs bidirectional switches to reduce the number of components. Operational principles and corresponding features are illustrated and compared with the conventional approach. The valuable contributions of the proposed high-performing sustainer has been proven by computer-aided simulations and experiments by using a prototype equipped with 7.5-inch diagonal panel operated at 200 kHz switching frequency.

  • In this paper, we present a 2-Dimensional simulation model of the discharge in an ac plasma display panel cell. Therefore, we study a ramp reset waveform in an ac plasma display panel discharge cell using 2-Dimensional simulation. Finally We research a connection between priming particles' density and stability.

  • Laser-ablated ITO patterns showed the formation of shoulders at the edge of the ITO lines and a ripple-like structure of the etched bottom. When the laser ablation was applied in the fabrication of PDP panel, the laser-ablated ITO patterns showed a higher sustaining voltage than that of chemically wet-etched ITO.

  • PDP(Plasma display Panel)는 Gas 방전을 하여 발생하는 빛을 이용하여 화상 표시를 하는 flat panel display이다. PDP는 용도는 여러가지가 있지만 현재 주용도는 Computer Monitor이다. 아직 Orange색 이외의 표시색상은 개발되어 있지 않다. Computer Monitor용의 단색 PDP개발은 최근에 활발히 진행되었다. 16 계조표시가 가능한 10inch 640 * 400 Dot PDP가 DIXY, Matsushita, Oki를 비롯한 여러 회사에서 개발되어 상품화 되었다. 국내에서는 금성사, 대우, 삼성에서 현재 개발을 진행시키고 있고 최근에 삼성에서 Computer Monitor용의 640 * 400 Dot PDP가 개발되었다. 그러나 단색 PDP의 생산 시설 과잉으로 최근에는 일본의 DIXY가 도산하였다. 현재는 단색 PDP로 시장 개척에 한계를 느낀 PDP제조 업체에서 총력을 쏟아 CPT(Color Picture Tube) 대체를 위하여 Full Color PDP를 개발하고 있다.

  • In Color AC Plasma Display Panel(PDP). Low luminous efficiency is a major problem. We measured luminous efficiency of PDP as a function of the Ar mixing ratio. Our results show that efficiency has improved by $5{\sim}10%$ at the condition of 0.5% Ar mixing ratio, compared with Ne-Xe(4%) or He-Ne-Xe(4%) (He:Ne = 7:3) gas.
