고균일도 직하형 백라이트 구동방법 (Driving Method of Direct Type Multi-Lamp Backlight with High Uniformity)

  • Cold cathode fluorescent lamp (CCFL) has been used as a light source for direct type backlights for LCD monitors or TV. One inverter for one CCFL was necessary for maintaining the lamp current so that many inverters were used to drive as many CCFLs of direct type backlight for LCD TV. An inverter for driving 16 CCFLs was developed to reduce the backlight cost. The length and diameter of CCFL were 450mm and 4mm, respectively. Backlight including 16 CCFLs for 26" LCD TV was assembled by using one inverter. The uniformities of the assembled backlight operated by the conventional inverter and the newly developed inverter were 75% and 88%, respectively.

  • We investigated response characteristics of liquid crystal display(LCD) with different operating mode of nematic liquid crystals (NLCs) such as $45^{\circ}$twist nematic (TN), $67.3^{\circ}$TN and ECB(electrical controlled birefringence) on a rubbed polyimide (PI) surface. The three kinds of LCD operating mode obtain stable EO performance. Low transmittances of the $45^{\circ}$TN and $67.3^{\circ}$TN cell on the rubbed PI surface were achieved by using low cell gap d. The fast response time of ECB cell among the three kinds of LCD operating mode was measured.

  • 현대의 전기전자 기술의 발전속도가 급격히 빨라짐에 따라서 디지털 전자기기는 많은 데이터와 빠른 전송속도가 요구되어지고 있으며 이로 인해 예상치 못한 고주파 노이즈 신호의 문제가 심각해지고 있다. 최근 디지털 전자기기 중 디스플레이 표시장치에서 구동전압 인가 시 발생하는 근역장 방사노이즈가 문제가 되고 있고, 정전용량방식 (Capacitive Overlay)Touch Pannel에서 터치 시 오작동을 일으키는 EL 면광원의 EMI(Electro-Magnetic Interference, 전자방해)가 본 연구에서 해결하고자 하는 문제이다. EL 면광원의 구동전압이 증가함에 따라서 Touch Panel에 인가되는 근역장 방사노이즈의 세기를 측정하였고 근역장 방사노이즈를 감쇄할 수 있는 Flexible한 자성복합시트에 대해서 연구하였다. EL Display Pannel에 Flexible한 자성 복합시트를 채용하여 Flexible Display 장비의 근역장 방사노이즈 감쇄에 효과가 있음을 확인하였다.

  • 계조표현의 방법인 기존의 펄스폭에 의한 방법과 본 연구에서 수행한 4채널의 계조표현 방법에 대해 비교하였다. 펄스폭에 의한 계조표현은 동일한 전압에서 펄스의 폭을 제어하여 계조표현이 가능하며, 4채널의 계조표현은 두 개의 채널로 전극배선을 하여 제작한 소자에 black입자와 white입자를 주입하고 생성된 4개의 서브픽셀의 컬러를 순차적으로 변하도록 하여 계조표현하는 방법이다. 두 가지의 계조표현은 이미지의 구현방법과 지속시간의 차이점이 있다. 4채널의 계조표현이 4개의 서브픽셀을 구동하면, 또 다른 계조표현은 8채널의 계조표현방법으로 이 방법은 하나의 큰 셀에 4개의 서브셀을 만들어 각각 다른 weight를 가지도록 만들어 우수한 계조표현을 구현할 것으로 판단되어 제안하고자 한다.

  • We proposed viewing angle switchable liquid crystal display(LCD) associated with fringe-field switching (FFS) mode with high aperture ratio characteristic. In the device, single pixel is separated into two regions, named as main pixel for displaying images and sub pixel for viewing angle control. In sub pixel region, add the common electrode on the top substrate and the initial alignment of liquid crystal is Hybrid Alignment Nematic (HAN) state. In conclusion, we suggested that the device has high aperture ratio characteristic because the LC directors are rotated in which viewing angle control region are generated fringe electric field.

  • This paper presents a measurement system of mechanical property using dual servo system. There are many kinds of method to measure material properties such as tensile test, indention and bending test. It is highly required to measure the properties of nano-sized material and structure. However, It is need more accurate measurement system, more stable and frequency response than conventional test. In this paper, we designed the dual servo system for a measuring instrument The dual servo system consisting of a coarse stage and a fine motion stage with VCM and PZT is proposed. Mechanical mechanism is designed with the leaf spring type of flexure hinge joint. Lead compensator is applied to this control system, and is designed by PQ method.

  • In this study, we have researched the optimum design method of the lenticular lens sheet for 3D displays on a TFT-LCD panel, to offer a more stable stereoscopic image, improved 3D quality, and a wider viewing zone. Especially, we have defined the viewing zone width (a parameter denoted as Z) to apply it to the optimum design. The results of this new design method have been compared with the existing design method. As a result, it is revealed that the proposed design method improves the stereoscopic image quality by reducing the black matrix zone width.

  • Recently organic electroluminescent devices have been intensively investigated for using in full-color flat-panel display. Since the quantum efficiency of electrophosphorescent device decrease rapidly as the luminance increase, it is desirable to operate the electrophosphorescent display with active matrix rather than passive matrix. Here we report the study of driving electrophosphorescent diode with all organic thin film transistor(OTFT). The structure of electrophosphorescent diode is ITO/TPD/BCP:Ir(ppy)$_3$/BCP/Alq$_3$/Li:Al/Al. In OTFT. polymer is used as an insulator and pentacene as an active layer. Detailed performance of the integrated device will be discussed.

저온 공정을 이용한 플라스틱 STN 셀의 전기 광학 특성 (Electro-Optical Characteristics of Plastic STN Cell using Low Temperature Process)

  • We investigated the electro-optica](EO) performances of the super twisted nematic liquid crystal display(STN-LCD) on the polyimide(PI) surface using polymer film. The NLC(Nematic Liquid Crystal) pretilt angles generated are about 18$^{\circ}$by the rubbing alignment method on thin plastic substrates. However, the pretilt angle are at about 13$^{\circ}$ lower on the glass substrate than on thin plastic substrate. Monodomain alignment of the plastic STN-LCD can be observed. A stable voltage-transmittance(V-T) curve of the plastic STN-LCD was observed on the polyimide(PI) surfaces using polymer film. Also, a faster response time for the plastic STN-LCD on the polyimide(PI) surfaces using polymer film can be achieved.

AC PDP의 고온 오방전 개선에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Improvement of the High Temperature Misfiring in AC PDP)

  • Misfiring is usually observed at high ambient temperature in plasma display panel (PDP). This leads to bad image quality and limits the productivity of PDP industry. In this paper, experimental observations and improvement on the misfiring at high ambient temperature have been studied. In order to reduce the high ambient temperature misfiring different slope of ramp erase pulse corresponding to the temperature are applied. The experimental results show that the suggested method is quite effective for reducing the high temperature misfiring phenomena.
