This work is aimed to explore a possibility of using the generalized Lamb waves for nondestructive evaluation of the bonding quality of layered substrates. For this purpose, we prepared two sets of specimens with imperfect bonding at their interfaces; 1) TiN-coated specimens with various wear conditions, and 2) CVD diamond specimens with various cleaning conditions. A dispersion simulation performed for layered substrates with imperfect interfaces are carried out to get the characteristics of dispersion curves that can be used for bonding quality evaluation. Then the characteristics of dispersion curves of the fabricated specimens are experimentally determined by use of an ultrasonic backward radiation measurement technique. The results obtained in the present study show that the lowest velocity mode (Rayleigh-like) of the generalized Lamb waves are sensitively affected by the bonding quality. Therefore, the generalized Lamb waves can be applied for nondestructive evaluation of imperfect bonding quality in various layered substrates.
Liquid fuel can be easily exploded and release more energy of detonation than conventional explosives because it has different explosion mechanism. In order to analyze dispersion characteristics of liquid fuel for the safety purpose, two tests are conducted. First, pre-test, which is a computer simulation, is carried out by a software called ANSYS AUTODYN to eliminate the effect of a canister that usually causes irregular dispersion of the fuel. Second, field test is performed to find out the amount and density effect of bursting charge. High speed cameras are installed in front of the canister to visualize the mechanism. Velocity, area and radius of the dispersed cloud are measured by image processing software, these are shown that the amount of bursting charge affects cloud velocity and area but density is not a significant factor of cloud formation.
With the building is higher and higher, the stack effect is more and more remarkable. The stack effect accompanies many problems in high-rise building such as draft, troublesome in door opening, uncomfortable noise, contaminants dispersion, etc. In this study, the air movement and accompanied contaminants dispersion by stack effect in high-rise building, and diluting the contaminants concentration were analyzed. The analysis was performed for high-rise residential building in Seoul, Korea and the network simulation method was used. The results show that the indoor contaminants concentration and air movement caused by stack effect have interdependent relationship.
This paper presents the numerical model developed to simulate the solute transport in rough and smooth single fractures. The roughness of these fractures is represented by using the fractal surface method. In this study, the 3D transport model, which is based on the random walk technique, is used to simulate the dispersion process of a solute which is represented by numerical particles. As the simulation results, it can be observed that the dispersion of solute in the fracture is significantly affected by the fracture roughness and particle size.
The dispersion and attenuation of Lamb and Leaky Lamb waves propagating in a 1 mm-thick steel plate were investigated. For acquiring a long(or large) range inspection capability, the fundamental symmetric and anti-symmetric wave modes(S0 and A0) over law frequencies were studied. Based on the dispersion curves, as well as pitch-catch and multi-mode simulations, it was shown that the S0 mode over law frequencies is the proper mode to minimize the dispersion and attenuation. In addition, it was shown that the S0 mode couldbe easily distinguished under multi-mode simulation since it has a larger group velocity than the A0 mode.

Complex dispersion relations in a cylindrical, foam-lined duct were successfully identified by using an iterative Prony series method. Techniques for using the iterative procedure successfully are described in detail, particularly with regard to model order selection and the identification of parameter starting values. It is shown that modal wave speeds and spatial attenuations per wavelength can be derived from the complex dispersion relations obtained using the iterative procedure. In addition, a finite element simulation is shown to well represent corresponding experimental measurement in terms of modal wave speeds and spatial attenuations.
A simulation of contaminant dispersion in a water reservoir has been done using 2-D finite difference method(FDM). The steady state velocity field of the reservoir was computed using stream function-vorticity formulation of Wavier-Stokes equation and continuity equation. Based on the computed steady state velocity field, the transient convective diffusion equation of the contaminant dispersion was computed. For the 1m$\times$1m reservoir model with inlet and outlet attached, it was shown that the center of circulation located toward right. For the numerical values of v =0.01($\textrm{cm}^2$/s) and D=0.6($\textrm{cm}^2$/s) and the flow of 50($\textrm{cm}^3$/s ), it was determined that the outflow had to be shut down in 18 seconds to prevent from severe pollution. Also the required time was computed to be 6 seconds for the inflow of 100 ($\textrm{cm}^3$/s). The result of this study is considered, hopefully, to be useful for the design of the water reservoir systems that are the subjects to various contamination.
As the NNSS system calculates ship's position by the doppler shift of the NNSS radio waves caused by the change of the distance between Transit Satellite and the ship, ship's speed error inevitably results in the position error, and moreover this kind of erroris most dominant compared with other errors especially in high speed ships and airplanes. Most NNSS receivers now in use have adoptedsuccessive short doppler counts as positioning data and by investigating the dispersion of serval successive positions calculated and by neglecting the mean position having dispersion of over certain threshold level, more accurate adn safe position is to be achieved. This paper proposes the method of finding ship's true speed by selecting a speed having least position dispersion for given successive doppler counts. And by computer simulation it was verified that the method proposed here is reasonable in finding the ship's desired correct speed together with the correct ship's position.

In this paper we present an electronic domain solution for chromatic dispersion (CD) monitoring algorithm based on the estimated time domain channel in electronic domain using channel estimation methods. The proposed scheme utilizes kurtosis as a CD measurement, directly computed from the estimated inter-symbol-interference (ISI) channel due to the CD distortion. Hence, the proposed scheme exhibits robust performance under OSNR variation, in contrast to the existing electronic domain approach based on minimum mean squared error (MMSE) fractionally-spaced equalizer taps [1]. The simulation results verify the CD monitoring ability of the proposed scheme.
