A topological theory has been introduced to explain and evaluate the fractional volumes of system materials, the change of the weight and concentration of monomer molecules, molecular weight distribution, and interaction functions of polymer-polymer and polymer-oligomer, etc. for dispersion polymerization. The previous theory of Lu et al. has offered only an incomplete simulation model for dispersion polymer systems, whereas our present one gives a general theoretical model applicable to all the polymerization systems. The theory of Lu et al. considered only the physical property term caused by interaction between matters of low molecular weight (i.e., diluent, monomer, and oligomer) and polymer particles without dealing with physical properties caused by the structure of polymer networks in polymer particles, while our theory deals with all physical effect possible, caused by the displacement of not only entangled points but also junction points in polymer particles. The theoretically predictive values show good agreement with the experimental data for dispersion polymerization systems.

In coastal region, eutrophication, Do deficit and red tide are frequently occurred by influx of fresh water. When the fresh water containing pollutants is discharged into the sea, the surrounding water is contaminated by dispersion of freshwater flowing into coastal waters. The prediction and analysis about the dispersion process of the discharged fresh water should be conducted. A modeling system using GUI was developed to simulate hydrodynamic flow and fresh water dispersion in coastal waters and to analyze the results efficiently. The modeling module of the system includes a tide model using a finite element method and a fresh water dispersion model using a particle-tracking method. This system was applied to predict the tidal currents and fresh water dispersion in Mokpo coastal zone. To verify accuracy of the hydrodynamic model, the simulation results were compared with observed sea level and time variations of tidal currents showing a good agreement. The fresh water dispersion was verified with observed salinity distribution. The dispersion model also was verified with analytic solutions with advection-diffusion problems in 1-dimensional and 2-dimensional simple domain. The system is operated on GUI environment, to ease the model handling such as inputting data and displaying results. Therefore, anyone can use the system conveniently and observe easily and accurately the simulation results by using graphic functions included in the system. This system can be used widely to decrease the environmental disaster induced by inflow of fresh water into coastal waters.

This paper compare the performance of S-MMA(Sliced-MultiModulus Algorithm) adaptive equalization algorithm by effect of slice weighting value for the minimization of the distortion and noise in the communication channel.. In the traditional MMA algorithm, the output signal of equalizer and the dispersion constant of transmitting signal is used for calculating the equalizer coefficient, but in S-MMA, the output of equalizer and dispersion constant and the considering the output of decision device by the power of slice constant are used in order to simultaneously compensate the distortion of amplitude and phase distortion. It is confirmed by computer simulation that the slice weighting value affects the performance of adaptive equalization algorithm. The performance index includes the output signal constellation, the residual isi and maximum distortion and MSE that is for the convergence characteristics, the SER according to the signal and noise power ratio at the channel is used. As a result of simulation, the residual isi, maximum distortion and MSE performances are better in the small weighting values. But in SER performance is better in the large weighting values.
The objective of this study is to investigate numerically the effect of building roof shaps on wind flow and pollutant dispersion in a street canyon with one row of trees of pore volume, $P_{vol}=96%$. A three-dimensional computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model is used to evaluate air flow and pollutant dispersion within an urban street canyon using Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) equations and the Explicit Algebraic Reynolds Stress Models (EARSM) based on k-${\varepsilon}$ turbulence model to close the equation system. The numerical model is performed with ANSYS-CFX code. Vehicle emissions were simulated as double line sources along the street. The numerical model was validated by the wind tunnel experiment results. Having established this, the wind flow and pollutant dispersion in urban street canyons (with six roof shapes buildings) are simulated. The numerical simulation results agree reasonably with the wind tunnel data. The results obtained in this work, indicate that the flow in 3D domain is more complicated; this complexity is increased with the presence of trees and variability of the roof shapes. The results also indicated that the largest pollutant concentration level for two walls (leeward and windward wall) is observed with the upwind wedge-shaped roof. But the smallest pollutant concentration level is observed with the dome roof-shaped.

This paper related with the M-CMA adaptive equalization algorithm which is possible to improve the residual isi and robustness performance compare to the current MMA algorithm that is reduce the intersymbol interference occurs in channel when transmitting the QAM signal. The current MMA algorithm depend on the cost function and error function using fixed signal dispersion constant, but the M-CMA algorithm depend on the new proposed cost function and error function using multiple dispersion constant. By this, it is possible to having robustness of the CMA and simultaneous compensation of amplitude and phase of MMA. The computer simulation was performed in the same channel and noise environment for compare the proposed M-CMA and current MMA algorithm. The equalizer output signal constellation, residual isi, MD, MSE learning courves and SER, represents the robustness were used for performance index. As a result of simulation, the M-CMA has more superior to the MMA in robustness and other performance index.
A tapered As2S3 photonic crystal fiber (PCF) with four layers of air holes in a hexagonal array around the core is designed in this paper. Numerical simulation shows that the dispersion D decreases and the nonlinearity coefficient γ increases from the thick to the thin end along the tapered PCF. We simulate the midinfrared pulse compression in the tapered As2S3 PCF using the adaptive split-step Fourier method. Initial Gaussian pulses of 4.4 ps and a central wavelength of 2.5 ㎛ propagating in the tapered PCF are located in the anomalous dispersion region. With an average power of assumed input pulses at 3 mW and a repetition frequency of 81.0 MHz, we theoretically obtain a pulse duration of 56 fs and a compression factor of 78 when the pulse propagates from the thick end to the thin end of the tapered PCF. When confinement loss in the tapered PCF is included in the simulation, the minimum pulse duration reaches 72 fs; correspondingly, the maximum compression factor reaches 61. The results show that in the anomalous-dispersion region, midinfrared pulses can be efficiently compressed in a dispersion-decreasing and nonlinearity-increasing tapered As2S3 PCF. Due to confinement loss in the tapered fiber, the efficiency of pulse compression is suppressed.

Numerical prediction of dynamic behavior of fully coupled saturated porous media is of great importance in many engineering problems. Specifically, static and dynamic response of soils - porous media with pores filled with fluid, such as air, water, etc. - can only be modeled properly using fully coupled approaches. Modeling and simulation of static and dynamic behavior of soils require significant Verification and Validation (V&V) procedures in order to build credibility and increase confidence in numerical results. By definition, Verification is essentially a mathematics issue and it provides evidence that the model is solved correctly, while Validation, being a physics issue, provides evidence that the right model is solved. This paper focuses on Verification procedure for fully coupled modeling and simulation of porous media. Therefore, a complete Solution Verification suite has been developed consisting of analytical solutions for both static and dynamic problems of porous media, in time domain. Verification for fully coupled modeling and simulation of porous media has been performed through comparison of the numerical solutions with the analytical ones. Modeling and simulation is based on the so called, u-p-U formulation. Of particular interest are numerical dispersion effects which determine the level of numerical accuracy. These effects are investigated in detail, in an effort to suggest a compromise between numerical error and computational cost.
A two-dimensional stream tube dispersion model is developed to simulate accurately transverse dispersion processes of pollutants in natural channels. Two distinct features of the stream tube dispersion model derived herein are that it employs the transverse cumulative discharge as an independent variable replacing the transverse distance and that it is developed in a natural coordinate system which follows the general direction of the channel flow. In the model studied, Eulerian-Lagrangian method is used to solve the stream tube dispersion equation. The stream tube dispersion equation is decoupled into two components by the operator-splitting approach; one is governing advection and the other is governing dispersion. The advection equation has been solved using the method of characteristics and the results are interpolated onto Eulerian grid on which the dispersion equation is solved by centered difference method. In solving the advection equation, cubic spline interpolating polynomials is used. In the present study, the results of the application of this model to a natural channel are compared with a steady-state flow measurements. Simulation results are in good accordance with measured data.
Various Eulerian-Lagrangian numerical models for the one-dimensional longitudinal dispersion equation are studied comparatively. In the model studied, the transport equation is decoupled into two component parts by the operator-splitting approach ; one part governing adveciton and the other dispersion. The advection equation has been solved using the method of characteristics following fluid particles along the characteristic line and the results are interpolated onto an Eulerian grid on which the dispersion equation is solved by Crank-Nicholson type finite difference method. In solving the advection equation, various interpolation schemes are tested. Among those, Hermite interpolation polynomials are superior to Lagrange interpolation polynomials in reducing dissipation and dispersion errors in the simulation.
