The Impact of Introduction of Five-day School Week on Adolescents' Time Use (주 5일 수업제 도입이 청소년의 시간사용에 미치는 영향)

  • This paper examines the impacts of introducing Five-day school week in South Korean on adolescents' time use. Exploiting the exogenous variation in the adolescents' time at school on Saturday, I estimate the causal effect of change of adolescents' discretion time on their time use. The main findings are as follows. The introduction of the five day school week increased the adolescents' discretion time and their time spent on sleeping, passive leisure(mainly watching television). A one-minute decrease in the adolescents' time at school increase their sleeping time by 0.46 minute and passive leisure time by 0.26 minute.

A study of the efficient application of Discretion activity in Mathematics curriculum (수학 교과 재량활동시간의 효율적인 운영에 관한 연구)

  • For the efficient application of curriculum discretion activity, I developed the program, 'Let's go together', so that curriculum discretion activity can be applied in the classroom. The program consists of several experiences, which are <Man to man paired study>, <the learning materials for Mathematics in our lives>, <the cooperative study in the class> and <the variety experiences about Mathematics>. This study shows the following results: First, T-test about the students' learning attitude and interest in Mathematics, there was dramatic change in students' desire, interest and attitude for mathematics learning. Second, as the role of Baewomi & Dowomi in 'Man to man paired study', Baewomi & Dowomi provided students with confidence of mathematics learning. We were able to ensure this fact from students' essay after the class. Third, teachers found that the number of students who had positive attitude with Self-directed study increased. And students tried to solve mathematical problems by themselves and the time using self-directed learning experience was also increased. This study suggests that there needs more development for learning materials for mathematics in our lives.

  • Elementary and Middle school have run the ICT grounding and utilization education following 'the management guide for the ICTE of elementary and middle school (2000.8.2). However, there is the Management Guide only without specific practical methods. By this reason, schools have the difficulties to enforce the ICTE curriculum. In this study, I developed the computer discretion activity textbook(two step) based on 'the management guide for the ICTE of elementary and middle school(2005.12) for the improvement of creativity and information utilizing ability.

  • A review of literature relating to the research topic and a survey method have been implemented in order to analyze effects of service orientation. For data analysis, a reliability analysis was performed to test the reliability of the construct and a series of an exploratory factor analysis was used for the validity test. The findings of the study were as follows: Classified into sex, service leadership factor and service skill factor showed meaningful difference between groups. Classified with age, service training factor, service leadership factor, service standardization factor, service technology factor, and service compensation factor showed meaningful difference between groups. Classified with scholarship, service compensation factor showed meaningful difference. Classified into working year, employees' discretion factor showed meaningful difference. Classified into work department, service training factor and employees' right factor showed meaningful difference. In addition, classified into monthly average incomes, employees' discretion factor showed meaningful difference.

  • In this study numerical analysis was performed to evaluate the safety of Built-in Timbering Roof Type Tunnelling Method(BTR) which is one of non-opening tunnel construction methods. For the upgrading of analytical precision was applied the discretion method which can separately model reinforcing elements of BTR and the homogeneity analysis considering the area ratio of elements was performed to compare both results. Comparing the displacement in this study with that of the homogeneity method, the efficiency of the discretion method was verified.

  • Examining whether the relationship between proprietary information cost and management's disclosure decision is also valid for domestic companies is expected to provide meaningful implications for investors and regulatory authorities. However, there are no domestic studies related to proprietary information costs so far. This study examines whether managers tend to lower the disclosure level at their discretion in consideration of proprietary information costs. This study used the measurement quality of disclosure to examine whether managers tend to lower the disclosure level at their discretion in consideration of proprietary information costs. As a result of empirical analysis, it was confirmed that there is a negative relationship between proprietary information cost and the quality of disclosure. This suggests that management tends to make disclosure decisions in consideration of not only the benefits of disclosure but also proprietary information costs resulting from disclosure in order to maximize corporate value. These findings are expected to have significant implications for investors and related policy authorities.

The Evaluation of Worker's Job Stress Status in Workplace of a Local Area (일개 지역 사업장 근로자의 직무스트레스수준 평가)

  • Purpose: This study was performed to evaluate the worker's job stress status in the workplace of a local area. Method: Data were collected from October to December, 2007. The subjects were 208 workers at 2 work sites in Busan Metropolitan area, who were examined using Job-Strain-Model Questionnaire. Data were analyzed by SPSS 12.0 Win Program to get the percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test, ${\chi}^2$-test, ANOVA. Results: The results of this study were as follows: In the mean sub-factors job stress level, the mean of job demand was $28.7{\pm}4.4$(median 29.0), the mean of job discretion was $54.7{\pm}8.2$(median 54.0), the mean of social support was $21.8{\pm}2.9$(range:8-32). This study's subjects were appeared as active group with relatively higher score of job demand and job discretion than the average value of those. There was no statistically significant difference of general characteristics among the different job strain groups. There was statistically significant difference with of social supports among the different job strain groups. Conclusion: In conclusion, the subjects of this study's were active group. Thus, it is suggested that it is be necessary to repeated the education of the job task work for active group with high score of job demand and job discretion.

A Study on Job Stress of Container Termainal Workers (항만하역 근로자들의 직무 스트레스에 관한 연구)

  • Objectives: The objective of this study is to evaluate the job characteristics of container terminal workers by applying the Job Strain model, and to assess the relationship among the general characteristics, job characteristics and psychosocial distress. Methods: A self-administrated questionnaire survey was performed to the container terminal workers in Pusan. Among the 200 male workers who answered the questionnaires, white-collar workers and blue-collar workers were 100, respectively. Karaseks Job Content Questionnaire was utilized to evaluate the job characteristics and Psychosocial well-being index (PWI) was applied to measure the extent of their psychosocial stress. Results: In white-collar workers, the skill discretion, created skill, decision-making authority, decision-making latitude, psychological job demand, and supervisor support of the job characteristics were significantly high, while in blue-collar workers physical exertion was significantly high. The result of Psychosocial well-being index (PWI) reveals that blue-collar workers were more stressed than white-collar workers, especially, the indices of depression (factor 2), sleeping disturbance and anxiety (factor 3), General well-being and vitality (factor 4) were significantly increased; whereas, in white-collar workers, only the index of social performance and self-confidence (factor 1) was significantly increased. And PWI scores were significantly increased in the lower social support and psychological job demand. By the multiple logistic regression analysis for PWI, blue-collar workers had increased odds ratio of 2.66(95% CI;1.11-6.41) compared with white-collar workers. The unmarried workers increased odds ratio of 3.54(95% CI;1.18-10.62) compared with married workers. And workers who have not own house increased odds ratio of 2.35(95% CI;1.15-4.79) compared with workers who have own house. Particularly, odds ratio of work-shift in blue-collar workers was 11.10(2.14-57.64). Conclusion: Skill discretion, created skill, decision-making authority, decision-making latitude, psychological job demand, and supervisor support were increased in white-collar workers. Decreased skill discretion and increased physical exertion were found in blue-collar workers, which is supported the Job Strain model. Job stress of blue-collar workers was comparatively higher than that of white-collar workers, especially, skill discretion, decision-making authority, decision-making latitude, job insecurity, physical exertion were noticeable factors. Especially, sleeping, smoking, and work shifting turned out to be a main cause that increases stress. Therefore, in order to decrease the job stress, a health promotion program to change the health behaviors should be activated and an organized job stress management program should be introduced. Especially, working condition for blue-collar such as physical exertion and work-shift should be improved.

  • The police have a responsibility to exercise the police authority in the sphere of peril prevention. Such right may be decided at their discretion. So, as a management according to the police's discretion is based on order and compulsion, it can not help infringing the rights of the people. Therefore, the exercise of the police authority has to be accompanied by a legal management policy according to the principle of legal reservation based on the principle of constitutionalism. This study is to find proper directions of the police function through preparing reasonable plans to guarantee freedom and rights of the people at its maximum while maintaining the public peace and order.

  • Recently, elementary schools has assigned students information communication technology class for 1 hour in every week, all more than 34 hours a year during the discretion activity classes in every grades. However, the guidelines for information communication technology class is only suggested, but the teaching materials that can be used in the information communication technology class are not various. We did an analysis of a guide to information communication technique education that the Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development announced. And then, We developed the materials which can improve fifth and sixth grade children's creativity. We tried to find out how this materials affect their creativity.
