  • This paper describes dynamic simulation of the spent fuel storage system which is described by statistical discrete event models. It visualizes flow and queue of system over time, assesses the operational performance of the system acitivies and establishes the system components and streams. It gives information on system organization and operation policy with reference to the design. System was tested and analyzed over a number of critical parameters to establish the optimal system. Workforce schedule and resources with long processing time dominate process. A combination of two workforce shifts a day and two cooling pits gives the optimal solution of storage system. Discrete system simulation is an useful tool to get information on optimal design and operation of the storage system.

  • In this paper, we deal with the stable conditions when two uncertainties exist simultaneously in a linear discrete time-varying interval system with time-varying delay time. The interval system is a system in which system matrices are given in the form of an interval matrix, and this paper targets the system in which the delay time of these interval system matrices and state variables is time-varying. We propose the system stability condition when there is simultaneous unstructured uncertainty that includes nonlinearity and only its magnitude and uncertainty in the system matrix of delayed state variables. The stable bounds for two types of uncertainty are derived as an analytical equation. The proposed stability condition and bounds can include previous stability condition for various linear discrete systems, and the values such as time-varying delay time variation size, uncertainty size, and range of interval matrix are all included in the conditional equation. The new bounds of stability are compared with previous results through numerical example, and its effectiveness and excellence are verified.

  • In this paper, a new discrete integral static output feedback variable structure controller based on the a new integral dynamic-type sliding surface and output feedback discrete version of the disturbance observer is suggested for the control of uncertain linear systems. The reaching phase is completely removed by introducing a new proposed integral dynamic-type sliding surface. The output feedback discrete version of disturbance observer is presented for effective compensation of uncertainties and disturbance. A corresponding control with disturbance compensation is selected to guarantee the quasi sliding mode on the predetermined integral dynamic-type sliding surface for guaranteeing the designed output in the integral dynamic-type sliding surface from any initial condition for all the parameter variations and disturbances. Using discrete Lyapunov function, the closed loop stability and the existence condition of the quasi sliding mode is proved. Finally, an illustrative example is presented to show the effectiveness of the algorithm.

  • This paper deals with the design of robust DSMC (Discrete-Time Sliding Mode Control) scheme in order to overcome system uncertainty in steering system with mechanically joined structure. The proposed control scheme is one of robust control schemes based on system dynamics. Therefore, system dynamics required is not obtained from physical law but SCM (Signal Compression Method) through experiment in order to avoid complicate mathematical development and save time. However, SCM has a shortcoming that is the limitation of with $2^{nd}$ order linear model which does not include the dynamic of high-frequency band. Thus, considering system uncertainty, DSMC is designed. In addition, to reduce the chattering problem of DSMC, DSMC is derived from the reaching law and the Lyapunov stability condition. It is found that the proposed control scheme has robustness in spite of the perturbation of system uncertainty through computer simulation.

The reaching phase is completely removed by introducing a new proposed sliding surface. The discrete version of the disturbance observer is derived for the effective compensation of the effect of uncertainties and disturbances. A corresponding control input with the disturbance compensation is selected to guarantee the quasi sliding mode on the predetermined sliding surface for guaranteeing the designed output in the sliding surface from any initial condition to the origin for all the parameter variations and disturbances. By using Lyapunov function, the closed loop stability and the existence condition of the quasi sliding mode is proved. • Optimum design of most structural system requires that design variables are regarded as discrete quantities. This paper presents the use of Genetic Algorithm for determining the optimum design for truss with discrete variables. Genetic Algorithm are know as heuristic search algorithms, and are effective global search methods for discrete optimization. In this paper, Elitism and the method of conferring penalty parameters in the design variables, in order to achieve improved fitness in the reproduction process, is used in the Genetic Algorithm. A 10-Bar plane truss and a 25-Bar space truss are used for discrete optimization. These structures are designed for stress and displacement constraints, but buckling is not considered. In particular, we obtain continuous solution using Genetic Algorithms for a 10-bar truss, compared with other results. The effectiveness of Genetic Algorithms for global optimization is demonstrated through two truss examples.

  • This paper proposes Nonlinear Interior Point Method (NIPM) including discrete control variables optimal power flow formulations. The algorithm utilizes the robustness in terms of starting point and fast convergence for large scale power system of NIPM and an introduction of rounding penalty function which is augmented in the Lagrangian function to handle discrete control variables. The derived formulation shows a simplified approach to deal with discrete control problems which is implementable in real large scale systems.

  • This paper presents a study on the driveline output torque estimation using a discrete Kalman filter. The in-situ output shaft torque is first measured by a non-contacting magneto-elastic torque transducer. The linear state-space system equations are first derived and the discrete Kalman filter is designed based on the Kalman filter theory to recover the driveline output torque contaminated by random noises. In addition to using torque measurement, the estimation of the output torque using two angular velocities: the output and wheel, is also conducted. The experimental results show that the discrete Kalman filter can be effective for not only removing the random noise in output torque but also estimating the output torque without torque measurement.

  • Singular values and their gradients have been used to analyze the stability and sensitivity of continuous multiloop systems. But this method has been limited to the discrete systems. This method is extended in this paper to analyze discrete systems directly in discrete domain. To do this, derived is the relationship in the disrete system between the stability margins and the minimum singular value of the return differene matrix, and also implemented is a method which computes singular value gradients. This method is applied to the lateralattitude control loop of a remotely piloted vehide both in continuous case and discrete case for verification of its utility.

  • This paper deals with the robust stability of discrete-time linear systems with time- varying delays and norm-bounded uncertainties. In this paper, the magnitude of time-varying delays is assumed to be upper-bounded. The sufficient condition is presented in terms of linear matrix inequality. It is also shown that the robust stability of uncertain discrete-time linear systems with time-varying delays is related with the quadratic stability of uncertain discrete-time linear systems with constant time delay.
