A DEDS is a system whose stated change in response to the occurrence of events from a predefined event set. A major difficulty in developing analytical results for the system is the lack of appropriate modeling techniques. In this paper, we consider the modeling and control problem for Discrete Event Dynamic Systems(DEDS) in the Temporal Logic framework(TLF) which have been recently defined. The traditional TLF is enhanced with time functions for real time control of Discrete Event Dynamic Systems. A sequence of event which drive the system from a given initial state to a given final state is generated by pertinently operating the given plants. This paper proposes the use of Real-time Temporal Logic as a modeling tool for the analysis and control of DEDS. An given example of fixed-time traffic control problem is shown to illustrate our results with Real-time Temporal Logic Framework.
The notion of linearity is fundamental in science and engineering. Much of system and control theory is based on the analysis of linear system, which does not care whether it is nonlinear and complex. The dynamic programming is one of concerned technology when users are interested in choosing best choice from system operation for nonlinear or dynamic system‘s performance and control problem. In this paper, we will introduce the dynamic programming which is based on discrete system. When the discrete system is constructed with discrete state, transfer between states, and the event to induct transfer, the discrete system can describe the system operation as dynamic situation or symbolically at the logical point of view. We will introduce technologies which are related with controllable of Controlled Markov Chain as shown example of simple game. The dynamic programming will be able to apply to optimal control part which has adaptable performance in the discrete system.

We proposed in this paper a systematic way for analyzing discrete event dynamic systems to classify faults and failures quantitatively and to find tolerable fault event sequences embedded in the system. An automated failure diagnosis scheme with respect to the nominal normal operating event sequences and the supervisory control problem for tolerable fault event sequences is presented. Moreover the supervisor failure diagnosis problem with respect to the tolerable fault event sequences is considered. Finally, a plasma etching system example is presented.
Increased attention has been paid in recent years to the need of traffic management for alleviating urban traffic congestion. This paper presents a discrete event modeling and simulation framework for analyzing the traffic flow. Traffic simulation models can be classified as being either microscopic and macroscopic models. The discrete event modeling and simulation technique can be basically employed to describe the macroscopic traffic simulation model. To do this, we have employed the System Entity Structure/Model Base (SES/MB) framework which integrates the dynamic-based formalism of simulation with the symbolic formalism of AI. The SES/MB framework supports to hierarchical, modular discrete event modeling and simulation environment. We also adopt the Symbolic DEVS (Discrete Event System Specification) to developed the automated analysis methodology for generating optimal signal light policy. Several simulation tests will demonstrates the techniques.
A design of stabilizing supervisory controller for discrete event dynamic systems(DEDS) is investigated in this paper. The notion of system stability is introduced for the supervisory control and the stable behavior is defined. A framework of stabilizing supervisory controller, which controls a given system to have stable behavior. is formulated and a design method is proposed for the stabilizing, supervisory controller.
In this paper, a two ports machine(TPM) model for discrete event dynamic systems(DEDS) is proposed. The proposed model is a finite state machine which has two inputs and two outputs. Inputs and outputs have two components, events and informations. TPM is different from other state machine models, since TPM has symmetric input and output. This symmetry enables the block diagram representation of the DEDS with TPM blocks, summing points, multiplying points, branch points, and connections. The graphical representation of DEDS is analogous to that of control system theory. TPM has a matrix representation of its transition and information map. This matrix representation simplifies the analysis of the DEDS.

In this paper, we discuss decentralized optimal fault tolerant supervisory control issues on the basis of failure analysis and diagnosis from the angle of discrete event dynamic system. We address the detectability and the observability problems, and develope fault tolerant supervisory control system upon the failure analysis and diagnosis schemes. A complete min-cut is introduced and the procedure for finding the achievable or nonachievable layered optimal legal sublanguages is suggested for a preferential option among the reachable states in the controlled plant. A layered optimal supervisory control framework is proposed upon these. We extend the concept of decentralized supervisory control by considering the problem of combination of decentralized with centralized control in case pure decentralized control happens to be inadequate. We introduce the concept of locally controllable pair and present a hybrid decentralized supervisory control framework. Finally, we propose the analytical framework for a decentralized optimal fault tolerant supervisory control systems.
We consider a discrete event dynamic system called periodic job shop, where an identical mixture of items called minimal part set(MPS) is repetitively produced in the same processing order and the primary performance measure is the cycle time. The precedence relationships among events(starts of operations) are represented by a directed graph with rocurront otructure. When each operation starts as soon as all its preceding operations complete(called earliest starting), the occurrences of events are modeled in a linear system using a special algebra called minimax algebra. By investigating the eigenvalues and the eigenvectors, we develop conditions on the directed graph for which a stable steady state or a finite eigenvector exists. We demonstrate that each finite eigenvector, characterized as a finite linear combination of a class of eigenvalue, is the minimum among all the feasible schedules and an identical schedule pattern repeats every MPS. We develop an efficient algorithm to find a schedule among such schedules that minimizes a secondary performance measure related to work-in-process inventory. As a by-product of the linear system approach, we also propose a way of characterizing stable steady states of a class of discrete event dynamic systems.
We propose a dynamic incidence matrix (DIM) for reflecting states and time conditions of a timed Petri net (TPN) explicitly. Since a DIM consists of a conventional incidence matrix, two time-related vectors and two state-related vectors, we can get the advantages inherent in the conventional incidence matrix of describing a static structure of a system as well as another advantage of expressing time dependent state transitions. We introduce an algorithm providing the DIM with a state transition mechanism. Because the algorithm is, in fact, an algorithmic model for discrete event simulation of TPN models, we provide a theoretical basis of model transformation of a TPN model into a DEVS(Discrete Event system Specification) model. By executing the algorithm we can carry out performance analysis of computer communication protocols which are represented TPN models.
A Discrete Event Dynamic System is a system whose states change in response to the occurrence of events from a predefined event set. A major difficulty in developing analytical results for the systems is the lack of appropriate modeling techniques. This paper proposes the use of Real-time Temporal Logic as a modeling tool for the analysis and control of DEDS. The Real-time Temporal Logic Frameworks is extended with a suitable structure of modeling hard real-time constraints. Modeling rules are developed for several specific situations. It is shown how the graphical model can be translated to a system of linear equations and constraints.
