The Generation of a Smooth C Extension Surface (부드러운 $C^2$확장 곡면 생성)

  • To design parts satisfying physical property in the continuous region, we do it in the discrete rectangular mesh points. Then we obtain points data from parts design and usually construct the surface using least squares method. In such case, that surface has an oscillation in the ineffective region which is inadequate for physical phenomena or NC machining. To solve both problems simultaneously, we extend the surface smoothly to have small curvature in the extended region. Up to now, we use the least squares method for the parts design in Color Picture Tube or Color Display Tube but in this paper, we use functions which is easily controllable. This surface has no error within the effective region compared to the least squares method.

Analytic and Discrete Fairing of 3D NURBS Curves (3D NURBS 곡선의 해석적 및 이산적 순정)

  • For reverse engineering, curves and surfaces are modeled for new products by interpolating the digitized data points. But there are many measuring or deviation errors. Therefore, it is important to handle errors during the curve or surface modeling. If the errors are ignored, designer could get undesirable results. For this reason, fairing procedure with the aesthetics criteria is necessary in computer modeling. This paper presents methods of 3D NURBS curve fairing. The techniques are based on automatic repositioning of the digitized dat points or the NURBS curve control points by a constrained nonlinear optimization algorithm. The objective function is derived variously by derived curved. Constraints are distance measures between the original and the modified digitized data points. Changes I curve shape are analyzed by illustrations of curve shapes, and continuous plotting of curvature and torsion.

Geometrically exact initially curved Kirchhoff's planar elasto-plastic beam

  • In this paper we present geometrically exact Kirchhoff's initially curved planar beam model. The theoretical formulation of the proposed model is based upon Reissner's geometrically exact beam formulation presented in classical works as a starting point, but with imposed Kirchhoff's constraint in the rotated strain measure. Such constraint imposes that shear deformation becomes negligible, and as a result, curvature depends on the second derivative of displacements. The constitutive law is plasticity with linear hardening, defined separately for axial and bending response. We construct discrete approximation by using Hermite's polynomials, for both position vector and displacements, and present the finite element arrays and details of numerical implementation. Several numerical examples are presented in order to illustrate an excellent performance of the proposed beam model.

  • 본 논문에서는 실시간 메쉬 모델의 형태 분석 처리가 가능하도록 하기 위한 효율적 이산 곡률 근사 방법을 제안한다. 메쉬 이산 곡률을 계산하는 기존 방법들의 경우, 각 정점(vertex) 별로 인접면(face)에대한 인접 순서등 인접 정점과 인접면과의 관계에 대한 사전 분석이 요구된다. 또한, 인접 정점과의 관계 분석을 위하여 고유치 분석 등 높은 계산 비용을 요구한다. 이에 비해, 제안 방법은 각 정점별로 정렬되지 않은 인접 정점의 위치 정보만으로 이산 곡률을 계산함에 따라 계산 부담이 적은 반면, 기존에 Taubin의 방법을 적용한 결과에 비해 정확한 곡률 계산 결과를 보여 주었다. 곡률 계산의 정확성은 다양한 형태의 메쉬 모델들에 대한 기존 방법과의 비교 실험을 통하여 입증하였다.

Feature Points Tracking of Digital Image By One-Directional Iterating Layer Snake Model (일방향 순차층위 스네이크 모델에 의한 디지털영상의 특징점 추적)

  • A discrete dynamic model for tracking feature points in 2D images is developed. Conventional snake approaches deform a contour to lock onto features of interest within an image by finding a minimum of its energy functional, composed of internal and external forces. The neighborhood around center snaxel is a space matrix, typically rectangular. The structure of the model proposed in this paper is a set of connected vertices. Energy model is designed for its local minima to comprise the set of alternative solutions available to active process. Block on tracking is one dimension, line type. Initial starting points are defined to the satisfaction of indent states, which is then automatically modified by an energy minimizing process. The track is influenced by curvature constraints, ascent/descent or upper/lower points. The advantages and effectiveness of this layer approach may also be applied to feature points tracking of digital image whose pixels have one directional properties with high autocorrelation between adjacent data lines, vertically or horizontally. The test image is the ultrasonic carotid artery image of human body, and we have verified its effect on intima/adventitia starting points tracking.

Damage assessment based on static and dynamic responses applied to foundation beams

  • Foundations are a vital part of structures. Over time, the foundations can deteriorate due to unforeseen overloads and/or settlements, resulting in the appearance of cracks in the concrete. These cracks produce changes in the static and dynamic behavior of the affected foundation, which alter its load carrying capacity. In this work, non-destructive techniques of relative simplicity of application are presented for the detection, location, and quantification of damage, using numerical models, solved with the finite element method and Power Series. For this, two types of parameters are used: static (displacement and elastic curvature) and dynamics (natural frequencies). In the static analysis, the damage detection is done by means of a finite elements model representing a beam supported on an elastic foundation with a discrete crack that varies in length and location. With regard to dynamic analysis, the governing equations of the model are presented and a method based on Power Series is used to obtain the solution for a data set, which could be the Winkler coefficient, the location of the crack or the frequency. In order to validate the proposed methodologies, these techniques are applied to data obtained from laboratory tests.

Dispersion in the Unsteady Separated Flow Past Complex Geometries (복합지형상에서 비정상 박리흐름에 의한 확산)

  • Separated flows passed complex geometries are modeled by discrete vortex techniques. The flows are assumed to be rotational and inviscid, and a new techlnique is described to determine the stream functions for linear shear profiles. The geometries considered are the snow cornice and the backward-facing step, whose edges allow for the separation of the flow and reattachment downstream of the recirculation regions. A point vortex has been added to the flows in order to constrain the separation points to be located at the edges, while the conformal mappings have been modified in order to smooth the sharp edges and to let the separation points free to oscillate around the points of maximum curvature. Unsteadiness is imposed to the flow by perturbing the vortex location, either by displacing the vortex from the equilibrium, or by imposing a random perturbation with zero mean to the vortex in equilibrium. The trajectories of passive scalars continuously released upwind of the separation point and trapped by the recirculating bubble are numerically integrated, and concentration time series are calculated at fixed locations downwind of the reattachment points. This model proves to be capable of reproducing the trapping and intermittent release of scalars, in agreement with the simulation of the flow passed a snow cornice performed by a discrete multi-vortex model, as well as with direct numerical simulations of the flow passed a backward-facing step. The results of simulation indicate that for flows undergoing separation and reattachment the unsteadiness of the recirculating bubble is the main mechanism responsible for the intense large-scale concentration fluctuations downstream.

Digital Variable Focal Liquid Lens (초점 조절이 가능한 디지털 유체 렌즈)

  • We have designed a digital variable-focal-length liquid lens by using 4-bit actuators. Each bit actuator consists of 1, 2, 4, and 8 unit actuators, squeezes discrete fluidic volume of $2^4$ different levels into the lens The 4-bit digital actuation mode ($b_4b_3b_2b_1$) affords $2_4$ different lens curvatures and focal lengths. The on/off control of the bit actuators helps in solving the main problem associated with analog liquid lenses, i.e., precise control of the pressure or volume of the fluid for changing the lens curvature and focal length. Experimentally, it has been found that the 4-bit actuators allow 0.074 nl (${\pm}0.02\;nl$) of the given fluid per bit to enter the lens and help in increasing the focal length from 3.63 mm to 38.6 mm in $2^4$ different levels; no high-cost controllers are required for precise control of the pressure or volume in this case. Therefore, the present digital liquid lens is more suitable to integrated optical systems by reducing additional component for pressure and volume control.

  • In this paper, we present a novel deformation method for alleviating the asymmetry of a scanned 3D face considering facial features. To handle detailed areas of the face, we developed a new local 3D shape descriptor based on facial features and surface curvatures. Our shape descriptor can improve the accuracy when deforming a 3D face toward a symmetric configuration, because it provides accurate point pairing with respect to the plane of symmetry. In addition, we use point-based representation over all stages of symmetrization, which makes it much easier to support discrete processes. Finally, we performed a statistical analysis to assess subjects' preference for the symmetrized faces by our approach.

  • While most of the research on reinforcement learning assumed a discrete control space, many of the real world control problems need to have continuous output. This can be achieved by using continuous mapping functions for the value and action functions of the reinforcement learning architecture. Two questions arise here however. One is what sort of function representation to use and the other is how to determine the amount of noise for search in action space. The ubiquitous neural network is used here to learn the value and policy functions. Next, the reinforcement predictor that is intended to predict the next reinforcement is introduced that also determines the amount of noise to add to the controller output. The proposed reinforcement learning architecture is found to have a sound on-line learning control performance especially at high-speed road following of high curvature road. Both computer simulation and actual experiments on a test vehicle have been performed and their efficiency and effectiveness has been verified.
