  • Nowadays adaptive technique allows arrays of any geometry to be used with fast direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimators designed for linear arrays. So the interpolation of data from a given antenna array onto the output of a virtual array is needed before the direction finding technique is applied to the outputs of a uniform linear virtual array (ULVA). In this paper some superresoluntion methods are used to estimate DOA by best-fit transformation matrix T under different nonuniformly spaced array.

  • This paper proposes a high resolution direction finding method, which is so called the 'averaged MUSIC'. This method uses a new sample array covariance matrix that consists of diagonal components obtained by taking averages of the diagonal component values of the sample covariance matrix for the MUSIC. This paper also shows that the proposed method performs higher resolced direction-of-arrival estimation than the MUSIC in such cases as low signal-to-noise ratio, closed signal sources, and limited number of sensors, based on the statistical analysis.

  • Sand scorpions are nocturnal animals to mostly use tactile senses to detect their prey. It has been reported that sand scorpions have high vibration sensitivity for their prey-localizing behavior. We tested vibration experiments in the sand with microphone sensors to model the sand scorpion's behavior and a time-difference model was applied to find the direction of a vibration source. Using the information of the arrival time of the vibration signal to reach each leg position, we can find the location of the vibration source.

  • A new efficient contour following algorithm for connected-component labeling processing is proposed. The basic idea of the algorithm is that the total number of downward chain codes is the same as one of upward chain codes along the closed contour. If the chain code direction is upward, then region start mark is assigned at the chain code departure pixel and if the chain code is downward, then region end mark is assigned at the chain code arrival pixel. The proposed algorithm extracts directly the contour information from only the current direction information of chain. This makes the algorithm simple and fast and requires less memory with comparison to the conventional algorithms. The proposed contour following algorithm can be applied to the various kind of image processing such as region filling, restoration and region feature extraction.

  • In electronic warfare, source enumeration and direction-of-arrival estimation are important. The source enumeration method based on eigenvalues of covariance matrix from received is one of the most used methods. However, there are some drawbacks such as accuracy less than 100 % at high SNR, poor performance at low SNR and reduction of maximum number of estimating sources. We suggested new method based on eigenvalues gaps, which is named AREG(Accumulated Ratio of Eigenvalues Gaps). Meanwhile, FGML(Fast Gridless Maximum Likelihood) which reconstructs the covariance matrix was suggested by Wu et al., and it improves performance of the existing source enumeration methods without modification of algorithms. In this paper, first, we combine AREG with FGML to improve the performance. Second, we compare the performance of source enumeration and direction-of-arrival estimation methods in Rayleigh fading. Third, we suggest new method named REG(Ratio of Eigenvalues Gaps) to reduce performance degradation in Rayleigh Fading environment of AREG.

  • Subspace-based direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation algorithms have a difficulty in dealing with coherent signals caused by multi-path environment. As one of attempts to solve this problem, a spatial differencing method is known to be useful for not only estimating DOAs of the coherent signals but also improving the number of resolvable wavefronts even more than the number of antenna elements. However, since the conventional spatial differencing method uses only the partial statistics of the observed data, this method suffers from the performance degradation in estimation accuracy caused by the residual correlation between the uncorrelated signals. To cope with this problem, in this paper, a generalized spatial differencing method is proposed. Unlike the conventional method, the proposed method utilizes the entire statistics of the received signals. Therefore, the additional performance enhancement in both estimation accuracy and the number of resolvable wavefronts can be achieved. The performance analyses with computer simulations show that the proposed method outperforms the conventional method in terms of the estimation accuracy and the number of resolvable wavefronts.

  • In this paper, a novel method of equalization of RF transceivers is suggested for MIMO(Multiple Input Multiple Output) antenna actively studied for high speed data transmission in the recent IMT-2000 system. The core of suggestion is in equalizing the transfer characteristics of multiple transceivers using feedback and memory during the predefined calibration time. This makes it possible to weight the signals in the intermediate frequency, which is easier in the application of recently developed DoA(Direction of Arrival) algorithms. In addition, the time varying optimum cell formation according to traffic is feasible by antenna beam-forming based on the DoA information. The suggested method of equalizing multiple transceivers are successfully verified using envelope simulation. two outputs. This paper is concerned with the diagnosis of multiple crosstalk-faults in OSM. As the network size becomes larger in these days, the convent.nal diagnosis methods based on tests and simulation be.me inefficient, or even more impractical. We propose a simple and easily implementable alg?ithm for detection and isolation of the multiple crosstalk-faults in OSM. Specifically, we develop an algorithm for isolation of the source fault in switc.ng elements whenever the multiple crosstalk-faults are.etected in OSM. The proposed algorithm is illustrated by an example of 16$\times$16 OSM.

  • In this paper, we present a method which is based on the concept of the rotation of subspaces. This method is highly related to the angle (or distance) between subspaces arising in many applications. An effective procedures is first derived for finding the optimal transformation matrix which rotates one subspace into another as closely as possible in the least squares sense , and then this algorithm is applied to the solution to general direction-of-arrival estimation problem of multiple broadband plane waves which may be a mixture of incoherent, partially coherent or coherent. In this typical application, the rotation of signal subspaces (ROSS) algorithm is effectively developed to achieve the high performance in the active systems for the case in which the noise field remains invariant with the measurement of the array spectral density matrix (or data matrix). It is not uncommon to observe this situation in sonar systems. The advantage of this techniques is not to require the preliminary processing and spatial prefiltering which is used in Wang-Kaveh's CSS focusing method. Furthermore, the array's geometry is not restricted. Simulation results are presented to illustrate the high performance achieved with this new approach relative to that obtained with Wang-Kaveh's CSS focusing method for incoherent sources and forward-backward spatial smoothed MUSIC for coherent sources including the signal eigenvector method (SEM).

  • Tracking of sound-location is widely used in various area such as intelligent CCTV, video conference and voice commander. In this paper we introduce the real-time sound-location tracking method for smart lecture system using TDoA(Time Difference of Arrival) with orthogonal microphone array on the ceiling. Through discussion on some models of TDoA detection, cross correlation method using linear microphone array is proposed. Orthogonal array with 5 microphone could detect omni direction of sound-location. For real-time detection we adopt the threshold of received energy for eliminating no-voice interval, signed cross correlation for reducing computational complexity. The detected azimuth angles are processed using median filter for lowering the angle deviation. The proposed system is implemented with high performance MCU of TMS320F379D and MEMs microphone module and shows the accuracy of 0.5 and 6.5 in degree for white noise and lectured voice, respectively.

  • Direction of arrival (DoA) estimation is a scheme of estimating the directions of targets by analyzing signals generated or reflected from the targets and is used in various fields. Artificial neural networks (ANN) is a field of machine learning that mimics the neural network of living organisms. They show good performance in pattern recognition. Although researches has been using ANNs to estimate the DoAs, there are limitationsin dealing with variations of the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the target signals. In this paper, we propose a three-stage ANN algorithm for DoA estimation. The proposed algorithm can minimize the performance reduction by applying the model trained in a single SNR environment to various environments through a 'noise reduction process'. Furthermore, the scheme reduces the difficulty in learning and maintains efficiency in estimation, by employing a process of DoA shift. We compare the performance of the proposed algorithm with Cramer-Rao bound (CRB) and the performances of existing subspace-based algorithms and show that the proposed scheme exhibits better performance than other schemes in some severe environments such as low SNR environments or situations in which targets are located very close to each other.
