화학물질관리법상 화학사고 정의에 관한 소고 (A Brief Review of the Legal Definition of Chemical Accident under the Current Chemical Substances Control Act)

  • The Chemical Substances Control Act has been legislated to counter the risks posed by chemical substances to public health and the environment, but a number of small- and large-scaled incidents related to hazardous chemicals continue to occur every year. The Korean Ministry of Environment takes legal responsibility for prevention, preparedness, and response to nationwide chemical accidents under the Chemical Substances Control Act. The determination of chemical accidents that occur during hazardous chemical handling processes is based on the Article 2 (Definitions) of the law and the administrative criteria for judgement of chemical accidents. However, there are certain ambiguities in the scientific basis for determining chemical accidents under the current regulations. Whether or not a chemical accident has a direct influence on penalties and administrative measures for a workplace where an accident occurred, it is necessary to find reasonable criteria for determining chemical accident based on legal and scientific evidence.

Expression of Maturation-Related Genes and Leptin during Sexual Maturation in the Female Goldfish: Effects of Exogenous Kisspeptin

  • Kisspeptin (Kiss) and its cognate receptor, kisspeptin receptor (KissR; G protein coupled receptor 54, GPR54), have recently been recognized as potent regulators of reproduction in teleosts. Additionally, leptin plays an important role in energy homeostasis and reproductive function in teleosts. The purpose of this study was to examine differences in the concentration of the hormones of the Kiss/KissR system and leptin and the expression of their underlying genes, all of which are involved in the sexual maturation of female goldfish, Carassius auratus, following treatment with Kiss. The expression levels of KissR increased after the Kiss injection. Furthermore, the peptide hormone leptin also increased after the injection (in vivo and in vitro). Additionally, the expression of GnRH and GTHs (GTHα, FSHβ, and LHβ) increased in the brain and pituitary (in vitro and in vitro). These results support the hypothesis that Kiss plays important roles in the direct regulation of the hypothalamus-pituitary-gonad axis and leptin in goldfish. Therefore, we suggest that Kiss system gene expression is correlated with energy balance and reproduction.

The Effect of Galangin on the Regulation of Vascular Contractility via the Holoenzyme Reactivation Suppressing ROCK/CPI-17 rather than PKC/CPI-17

  • In this study, we investigated the influence of galangin on vascular contractibility and to determine the mechanism underlying the relaxation. Isometric contractions of denuded aortic muscles were recorded and combined with western blot analysis which was performed to measure the phosphorylation of phosphorylation-dependent inhibitory protein of myosin phosphatase (CPI-17) and myosin phosphatase targeting subunit 1 (MYPT1) and to evaluate the effect of galangin on the RhoA/ROCK/CPI-17 pathway. Galangin significantly inhibited phorbol ester-, fluoride- and thromboxane mimetic-induced vasoconstrictions regardless of endothelial nitric oxide synthesis, suggesting its direct effect on vascular smooth muscle. Galangin significantly inhibited the fluoride-dependent increase in pMYPT1 and pCPI-17 levels and phorbol 12,13-dibutyrate-dependent increase in pERK1/2 level, suggesting repression of ROCK and MEK activity and subsequent phosphorylation of MYPT1, CPI-17 and ERK1/2. Taken together, these results suggest that galangin-induced relaxation involves myosin phosphatase reactivation and calcium desensitization, which appears to be mediated by CPI-17 dephosphorylation via not PKC but ROCK inactivation.

  • LPG direct injection (LPDi) technology is a method of improving the weaknesses of existing LPG vehicles by directly injection into the combustion chamber. This study was conducted on the comparison of emissions and fuel efficiency performance of the engine and vehicle by applying LPDi technology. The LPDi hybrid engine's maximum output and maximum torque were measured at an equivalent level of less than 1% compared to conventional gasoline fuel. The fuel amount was corrected using the LCU controller, and the THC, CO, and NOx emissions were reduced to 90% in the operating range of the three-way catalyst through air-fuel ratio control. The analysis of THC+NOx and CO emissions in FTP-75 (CVS-75) driving mode satisfied the US LEV III SULEV30 regulation.

1D 시뮬레이션 기반 GDI 인젝터의 비선형적 분사 특성 해석에 대한 연구 (Investigation on the Non-linear Injection Characteristics of GDI injector using 1D Simulation)

  • Multi-injection scheme is being applied to GDI combustion to reduce PM and PN emission to meet the EU7 regulation. However, very short injection duration encounters the ballistic injection region, which injection quantity does not increase linearly with injection duration when applying multi-injection. In this study, numerical studies were conducted to reveal the cause of ballistic injection and the effect of design parameters on ballistic region using 1-D simulation, AMESim. Injection rate and injection quantity were compared with experiment to validate the established model, which showed the accuracy with 10% error. The model revealed that the tendency of ballistic region coincides with the needle motion behavior, which means that parameters at the upper part of needle such as electro-magnetic force, needle spring force and needle friction force have dominant effect on ballistic injection. To figure out the effect of electro-magnetic and needle friction force on ballistic, those parameters were varied to plus and minus 10% with model. The result showed that those parameters clearly changed the ballistic region characteristics, however, the impact became insignificant for outside of ballistic region, which means that the ballistic injection is mainly influenced by initial motion of injector needle.

  • The mammalian intestines harbor trillions of commensal microorganisms composed of thousands of species that are collectively called gut microbiota. Among the microbiota, bacteria are the predominant microorganism, with viruses, protozoa, and fungi (mycobiota) making up a relatively smaller population. The microbial communities play fundamental roles in the maturation and orchestration of the immune landscape in health and disease. Primarily, the gut microbiota modulates the immune system to maintain homeostasis and plays a crucial role in regulating the pathogenesis and pathophysiology of inflammatory, neuronal, and metabolic disorders. The microbiota modulates the host immune system through direct interactions with immune cells or indirect mechanisms such as producing short-chain acids and diverse metabolites. Numerous researchers have put extensive efforts into investigating the role of microbes in immune regulation, discovering novel immunomodulatory microbial species, identifying key effector molecules, and demonstrating how microbes and their key effector molecules mechanistically impact the host immune system. Consequently, recent studies suggest that several microbial species and their immunomodulatory molecules have therapeutic applicability in preclinical settings of multiple disorders. Nonetheless, it is still unclear why and how a handful of microorganisms and their key molecules affect the host immunity in diverse diseases. This review mainly discusses the role of microbes and their metabolites in T helper cell differentiation, immunomodulatory function, and their modes of action.

국내 항공기 자격증명 적용에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Application of Domestic Aircraft Certification)

  • Domestic aviation law stipulates methods and matters for safe and efficient navigation in accordance with the International Civil Aviation Convention. Following the International Civil Aviation Convention is very important for aviation safety because it not only presents domestic standards but also ensures that the safety standards presented by ICAO are implemented. If the above criteria are not met, it is a very important regulation as well as domestic legal effect as other member countries can be directly or indirectly affected by intensive monitoring by ICAO even without direct legal sanctions. Domestic aviation safety management conducts safety management evaluation according to USOAP and is considered to have the highest implementation rate among countries that have received USOAP so far. In this paper, we would like to ways to improve by comparing and analyzing how domestic aircraft reflect the contents of Annex 1 based on ICAO Annex 1: Personnel Licensing among the annexes of the ICAO.

Increase of L-type Calcium Current by cGMP-dependent Protein Kinase Regulates in Rabbit Ventricular Myocytes

  • Background: We have previously reported that not only cGMP but also 8-Br-cGMP or 8-pCPT-cGMP, specific and potent stimulators of cGMP-dependent protein kinase (cGMP-PK), increased basal L-type calcium current $(I_{Ca})$ in rabbit ventricular myocytes. Our findings in rabbit ventricular myocytes were entirely different from the earlier findings in different species, suggesting that the activation of cGMP-PK is involved in the facilitation of $I_{Ca}}$ by cGMP. However, there is no direct evidence that cGMP-PK can stimulate $I_{Ca}}$ in rabbit ventricular myocytes. In this report, we focused on the direct effect of cGMP-PK on $I_{Ca}}$ in rabbit ventricular myocytes. Methods and Results: We isolated single ventricular myocytes of rabbit hearts by using enzymatic dissociation. Regulation of $I_{Ca}}$ by cGMP-PK was investigated in rabbit ventricular myocytes using whole-cell voltage clamp method. $I_{Ca}}$ was elicited by a depolarizing pulse to +10 mV from a holding potential of -40 mV. Extracellular 8-(4-Chlorophenylthio)-guanosine-3',5'-cyclic monophosphate (8-pCPT-cGMP), potent stimulator of cGMP-dependent protein kinase (cGMP-PK), increased basal $I_{Ca}}$. cGMP-PK also increased basal $I_{Ca}}$. The stimulation of basal $I_{Ca}}$ by cGMP-PK required both 8-Br-cGMP in low concentration and intracellular ATP to be present. The stimulation of basal $I_{Ca}}$ by cGMP-PK was blocked by heat inactivation of the cGMP-PK and by bath application of 8-(4-chlorophenylthio)-guanosine-3',5'-cyclic monophosphate, Rp-isomer (Rp-pCPT-cGMP), a phosphodiesterase-resistant cGMP-PK inhibitor. When $I_{Ca}}$ was increased by internal application of cGMP-PK, IBMX resulted in an additional stimulation of $I_{Ca}}$. In the presence of cGMP-PK, already increased $I_{Ca}}$ was potentiated by bath application of isoprenaline or forskolin or intracellular application of cAMP. Conclusions: We present evidence that cGMP-PK stimulated basal $I_{Ca}}$ by a direct phosphorylation of L-type calcium channel or associated regulatory protein in rabbit ventricular myocytes.

외국계 제조업체 투자유인으로서의 저렴한 전기요금과 느슨한 환경규제 영향력 (Impacts of Low-priced of Industrial Electricity and Loose Environment Regulations on Investment Incentives of Inward Foreign Direct Investment of the Manufacturing Industries in Korea)

  • 외국인직접투자는 지역경제성장에 매우 중요한 역할을 하는 것으로 알려져 있다. 우리나라는 외환위기를 맞이하면서 외국인직접투자촉진법을 제정하였고, 중앙정부 및 지방정부는 외국인투자지역이나 경제자유구역을 지정하고 적극적으로 외국인투자 유치를 위해 다양한 인센티브를 제공해왔다. 서비스 부문의 비중이 높았던 외국인 직접투자가 2009년에는 오히려 제조업 부문으로의 투자가 더 많아졌다. 본 연구는 1999~2012년 동안 공장형 외국계 제조업체를 대상으로 하여 우리나라의 저렴한 전기요금 및 느슨한 환경규제가 외국계 제조업체의 투자 유인으로 작용하였는가를 살펴보는데 목적을 두었다. 이를 위해 관련 기관 및 외국계 기업체 담당자들과 심층면담을 수행하였다. 연구 결과 우리나라의 저렴한 산업용 전기요금과 안정적인 전기 공급은 외국계 기업들이 한국으로 투자를 하도록 유인하는 것으로 파악되었다. 정부는 저렴한 전기요금이 외국인직접투자를 끌어드리는데 있어서 경쟁적 요소라고 간주하고 있어, 전기 다소비 업종들이 우리나라로의 투자를 증가시키는 잠재적 요인으로 작용할 가능성이 매우 크며, 향후 우리나라 전력수급의 어려움을 가중시킬 수 있음을 시사해준다.

중소기업 조직구성원의 자기효능감이 직무열의와 직무성과에 미치는 영향: 구조모형분석-인공신경망 분석의 적용 (The Impact of Self-efficacy on Job Engagement and Job Performance of SMEs' Members: SEM-ANN Analysis)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 중소기업 조직구성원의 자기효능감이 직무열의와 직무성과에 미치는 영향을 연구하고 SEM-ANN (Structural Equation Modeling-Artificial Neural Network) 분석을 적용하여 성별 (Ggender)과 결혼 여부의 변수에 따른 차이를 분석하기 위한 것이다. 연구목적의 달성을 위하여 400명의 중소기업 조직구성원들로부터 자료를 수집하여 285명의 유효표본이 분석에 이용되었다. 본 연구에서 자기효능감은 자신감, 자기조절효능감, 그리고 과제난이도 선호의 세 가지 하위차원으로 구성되었다. 분석 결과, 자신감, 자기조절효능감, 그리고 과제난이도 선호 등의 자기효능감은 직무열의에 직접적으로 유의한 정(+)의 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 그리고 자기효능감 중 자신감과 자기조절효능감은 직무성과에 정(+)의 유의한 영향을 미치나, 과제난이도 선호는 유의한 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 또한, 직무열의는 직무성과에 정(+)의 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났으며, 자기효능감과 직무성과 간의 관계에서 매개역할을 하는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 미혼 남성은 과제난이도 선호, 기혼 남성은 자기조절효능감을 가장 중요시하나, 여성은 결혼 여부에 관계없이 자신감과 자기조절효능감을 중시하는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구는 주로 교육 및 서비스업종 등에서 이루어지고 있는 자기효능감 관련 연구를 다차원으로 측정하여, 중소기업 구성원들을 대상으로 하여 자기효능감-직무열의-직무성과 간의 프레임워크를 제시하고, 기업들이 조직구성원의 성별, 결혼 여부에 따른 조직구성원 관리의 근거를 찾는데 도움을 줄 수 있다는데 의의가 있다. 또한, 본 연구의 SEM-ANN 분석 과정은 지금까지 SEM을 이용한 선형적(보상적) 관계에서 영향 또는 기준 변수들의 조합을 분석할 수 있는 비선형적 (비보상적) 관계를 설명한다는 점에서 차별성이 있다.
