  • In this paper a decoupled control of a doubly-fed induction machine(DFIM) feed by a matrix converter is presented. It provides a robust regulation of the stator side active and reactive powers by the direct and quadratic components of the stator current vector, presented in a line-voltage-oriented reference frame. In this case, the stator windings are directly connected to the line grid, while the rotor windings are supplied by this later through a matrix converter controlled by a space vector modulation technique. The proposed solution is suitable for both energy generation and electrical drive applications with restricted speed variation range.

  • In accordance with adoption of new convention for the control of ship's ballast water at the diplomatic conference held in London Feb, 2004, every country has to regulate the ballast water and deposit matters. When this Resolution comes into effect in 2009, all vessels engaged in international voyage must have ballast water control program, ballast water records, equipments which are suitable to the standard of exchange and performance for the ballast water. This study estimates objectively their performances, merits and demerits of the ballast water treatment technique and exchanging techniques for safe operation of ships. It is desirable to design an equipment to control the ballast water using the brush-type vacuum suction nonstop reverse cleaning system to overcome the clogging phenomenon and the direct disc filtering to maximize filtering area for the optimum process considering biological availabilities. It will be expected to protect against marine pollution and to maintain clean sea if it is secured to develop new ballast water treatment techniques. And it will also be expected to cope with the Resolution and each regulation of the developed countries from the ballast water.

  • This paper is to propse a new self-excitation method of synchronous generator. Instead of conventional exciter of synchronous generator, the additional winding which is arranged in addition to the armature winding, is used in this generator. The output terminal of the additional winding is connected to a capacitor and to a full wave rectifier in series. In this configuration, one source double excitation which is composed of capacitor-self-excitation by lead urrent and direct current excitation by rectifier, is induced. The result is that` The excetation efficency is improved greatly and output waveform is improved also. In three-phase synchronous generator using the new method of the one source double excitation, voltage element (shunt characteristics) and current element (series characteristics)are compounded in scalar by adapting star-point-open-rectifier system. The result is as following` The effect of load power factor angle on voltage regulation is reduced greatly, compound characteristics is become manifold by controlling capacity of capacitor, and transient response is improved.

  • Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is essential for many angiogenic processes both in normal and pathological conditions. However, the signaling pathways involved in VEGF-induced angiogenesis are incompletely understood. The protein kinase D1 (PKD1), a newly described calcium/calmodulin-dependent serine/threonine kinase, has been implicated in cell migration, proliferation and membrane trafficking. Increasing evidence suggests critical roles for PKD1-mediated signaling pathways in endothelial cells, particularly in the regulation of VEGF-induced angiogenesis. Recent studies show that class IIa histone deacetylases (HDACs) are PKD1 substrates and VEGF signal-responsive repressors of myocyte enhancer factor-2 (MEF2) transcriptional activation in endothelial cells. This review provides a guide to PKD1 signaling pathways and the direct downstream targets of PKD1 in VEGF signaling, and suggests important functions of PKD1 in angiogenesis.

  • Local protein synthesis mediates precise spatio-temporal regulation of gene expression for neuronal functions such as long-term plasticity, axon guidance and regeneration. To reveal the underlying mechanisms of local translation, it is crucial to understand mRNA transport, localization and translation in live neurons. Among various techniques for mRNA analysis, fluorescence microscopy has been widely used as the most direct method to study localization of mRNA. Live-cell imaging of single RNA molecules is particularly advantageous to dissect the highly heterogeneous and dynamic nature of messenger ribonucleoprotein (mRNP) complexes in neurons. Here, we review recent advances in the study of mRNA localization and translation in live neurons using novel techniques for single-RNA imaging.

  • The Maritime Traffic Safety Law of P. R. China has not the legal nature of navigation rule which regulates the vessel traffic directly but has the legal nature of management to ensure the safety and good order of the whale marine traffic. For that reason, the legal status of this Law is a general basic norm for the marine safety regulations rather than a definite enforcement regulation. This Law does not have any clear statements on adaptation of the steering and sailing rules of the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea, but it can be presumed the Convention would be applied on the viewpoint of the international practice. The subject matter of this Law is easily understandable, because the IMO and shipping countries have already made similar legislation. Since the maritime traffic condition of the P. R. China also has a direct effect upon the Korean coastal waters, it is essential to observe closely the process of enforcement and development of the P. R. China's Maritime Traffic Safety Law.

  • Nitric oxide is involved in various physiological processes. Among isoforms of nitric oxide synthase, iNOS is partly responsible for inflammation and septic shock. During our continual search for anti-inflammatory flavonoids, we have found that flavonoids, especially flavones, possessed the inihibitory activity of NO production by iNOS from LPS-activated RAW 264.7 cell. In this study, flavonoids from Scutellaria radix were investigated for their inhibitory activity of nitric oxide production. It was found that wogonin, among tested flavonoids including baicalein, oroxylin A, skullcapflavone II, showed the strongest inhibition of nitric oxide production (IC$\sub$50/ = 17 uM). And this inhibition was, at least partly, due to down-regulation of iNOS enzyme induction, not due to direct inhibition of iNOS enzyme activity.

  • In this paper, a new 3-phase PWM converter power control algorithm is proposed using feedback linearization for the regulation of the active and reactive power demanded by load side. The direct power control can be realized through the proposed control scheme, cancelling out d-q axis coupling terms and nonlinear effects between inputs and states. The actual experimental results prove the feasibility of the proposed nonlinear power controller.

  • This paper consider fuzzy control of a single-inverted pendulum attached to the tip end of a rotating arm driven by a direct driven motor. Control objectives stabilization of the pendulum at the upright position and regulation of the arm at an arbitrary specified position. Fuzzy control is an effective method to achieve multiple control objectives in control of nonlinear systems. In this paper, fuzzy logic control is proposed to obtain increased control performance and stability.

  • Recently in Korea, treatment and disposal of organic wastes have being the mostimportant is sue due to governmental strong regulation of landfill banning Especially the sewage sludge and food wastes will be restricted from the direct landfilling, after the year 2003 and 2005 respectively. Thus the considerable change in treatment methods of organic wastes is founded to transfer toward recycling the organic wastes, In these trends. vermicomposting is being enlightened newly in Korea. In November of 1999. the first symposium focusing the organic waste treatment using the earthworm was held with attending many peoples including earthworm company, experts. and professors. In that symposium, it was reported that the vermicomposting plants treating organic wastes had increased to about 80 plants and had treated about 110,000 tons per year in Korea Many local governments and companies showed the interest in vermicomposting of organic wastes and needed the collaboration with each other and foreign countries. In for reclamation materials, the extraction of some medical drugs from earthworm was expanding the research and development fields, In this paper, the history of vermicomposting in Korea was reviewed and the present stanls and future aspect were showed.
