  • This study examines a systematic and effective approach to career guidance in medical education, with a particular focus on the 6-year integrated career guidance education framework implemented at the College of Medicine, The Catholic University of Korea. Based on the "New SLICE" educational development principles, this framework comprehensively addresses the needs of medical students in career planning and development. It is structured into three phases: understanding yourself, exploring options, and choosing a specialty. The first phase, understanding yourself, helps students to recognize their strengths, weaknesses, aptitudes, and potentials, thereby setting the direction for future career choices. This phase includes various psychological tests and Self-Development and Portfolio courses. The second phase, exploring options, enables students to engage in related activities such as research and practical training, providing direct and indirect experiences across various fields. This phase offers courses including Medical Field Experience, Career Guidance through the Learning Community & Advisory Professors, and Student Participation in Professor Research Projects. The final phase, choosing a specialty, involves students making decisions based on in-depth self-assessment and exploration of majors, with a capstone project being a significant component. Maximizing the efficiency of career decision-making requires integration between the basic medical curriculum and postgraduate education. Including the period up to residency entrance in the framework is necessary for effective career guidance education.

  • Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the validity of a depth camera-based system for monitoring physical function, assessing its feasibility for accurately monitoring activities of daily living. Design: A cross-sectional study. Methods: Twenty-three participants were enlisted to perform fifteen activities of daily living within a living laboratory designed to simulate a home environment. Activities were monitored using a depth camera system capable of classifying actions into standing, sitting, and lying down, with a conventional video camera employed for activity recording. The duration of each activity, as measured by the system, was compared to direct observations made by a physical therapist which were analyzed using a motion analysis software. The association between these two measurement approaches was assessed through correlation analysis, coefficient of determination, intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC), and Bland-Altman plots. Results: Our findings indicated that standing activities exhibited the highest correlation (r=0.847) between the system measurements and physical therapist observations, followed by sitting (r=0.817) and lying down (r=0.734), which demonstrated lower correlations. However, the ICC and Bland-Altman plots revealed notable variances between the two measurement methods, particularly for activities involving lying down. Conclusions: In this study, the depth camera-based physical monitoring system showed promise feasibility in distinguishing standing, sitting, and lying down activities at home environments. However, the current study also underlined some necessities of enhancements in capturing lying down activities.

  • This study investigates the effectiveness of using a plasma actuator for active control of turbulent flow around a finite square cylinder. The primary objective is to analyze the impact of plasma actuators on flow separation and wake region characteristics, which are critical for reducing drag and suppressing vortex-induced vibrations. Direct Numerical Simulation (DNS) was employed to explore the flow dynamics at various operational parameters, including different actuation frequencies and voltages. The proposed methodology employs a neural network trained using the Proximal Policy Optimization (PPO) algorithm to determine optimal control policies for plasma actuators. This network is integrated with a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) solver for real-time control. Results indicate that this deep reinforcement learning (DRL)-based strategy outperforms existing methods in controlling flow, demonstrating robustness and adaptability across various flow conditions, which highlights its potential for practical applications.

  • We investigated middle school students' awareness of Han-style(Korean cuture) in order to promote it, and developed and applied the Teaching-Learning Lesson Plan according to the traditional clothing culture contents related to Han Style. We selected 5 major fields representing Han Style including Han-gul(Korean alphabet). Han-sik(Korean food). Han-bok(Korean traditional clothes). Han-ji(Korean traditional paper), and Han-ok(Korean traditional house). We analyzed the contents of the food, clothing and shelter in 6 types of high school testbooks under the revised 7th national curriculum, and chose seven traditional clothing-lifestyle culture contents. Also we developed 14-period processes and materials(9 for teachers. 9 for students and 3 for and applied it to usual classes. The mean score of middle school students' awareness of Han Style in the post-test was significantly higher than that in the pre-test. Students evaluated it positively that the classes could raise the pride on the Han-culture and provoke the interest in it through the direct experiencing activities. We suggest that the various themes on Han-style should be developed, and the theoretical classes on the identity as well as the experiencing activities on it.

The research is based on the questionnaire to investigate the primary teachers' appreciation of the curriculum. The questions are about the general aspect of the 7th curriculum and special treatises on science curriculum. Questionnaires were distributed to 1000 teachers, and 822 teachers answered them. According to the survey results the teachers' thoughts were as following: First, there must be enough time to develop a new curriculum. It is not desirable to change the old curriculum totally. There should be some continuity between the old and the new curriculum. Second, teachers appreciated that the learning resources and supplements were helpful, and interested students. Teachers thought that If equipment at class or school was not enough. Third, according to them the hierarchical structure of science curriculum was appropriate, but the contents need to be improved. Fourth, most teachers restructured the 7th science curriculum to adapt it to the class and school. They cooperated with one another in teaching science, and applied diverse teaching-learning methods according to the curricular contents and the grade levels. Teachers tried to evaluate all aspects of the students with various methods, but they felt it was hard. They were not active in developing evaluation tools as a team, and in objectifying the information about students. Fifth, teachers felt it was hard to implement the science curriculum according to different levels of the students. Based on the survey of teachers' thoughts, the following can be suggested for successful implementation and reorientation of the curriculum. First, teachers need learning opportunities to appreciate and adapt the 7th curriculum creatively. Second, they need guidances in implementing the different levels of the curriculum, and the information about the appropriate resources for it. • The perception of traffic environment based on various sensors in autonomous driving system has a direct relationship with driving safety. Recently, as the perception model based on deep neural network is used due to the development of machine learning/in-depth neural network technology, a the perception model training and high quality of a training dataset are required. However, there are several realistic difficulties to collect data on all situations that may occur in self-driving. The performance of the perception model may be deteriorated due to the difference between the overseas and domestic traffic environments, and data on bad weather where the sensors can not operate normally can not guarantee the qualitative part. Therefore, it is necessary to build a virtual road environment in the simulator rather than the actual road to collect the traning data. In this paper, a training dataset collection process is suggested by diversifying the weather, illumination, sensor position, type and counts of vehicles in the simulator environment that simulates the domestic road situation according to the domestic situation. In order to achieve better performance, the authors changed the domain of image to be closer to due diligence and diversified. And the performance evaluation was conducted on the test data collected in the actual road environment, and the performance was similar to that of the model learned only by the actual environmental data.

  • In this paper, we propose a multisensory(i.e., visual-auditory-tactile) based AR system for the education of cultural heritage. The proposed system provides a multisensory interaction by designing a user to experience with a 3D printed artifact which is mapped by a virtual 3D content of digital heritage. Compared with the existing systems of cultural heritage education based on augmented reality(AR) technology, this system focused on not only providing learning experience via a sense of visual and auditory, but also a sense of tactile. Furthermore, since this systems mainly provided the direct interactions using a 3D printed model, it gives a higher degree of realism than existing system that use touch or click motions on a 2D display of mobile phones and tablets. According to a result of user testing, we concluded that the proposed system delivered the excellent presence and learning flow to users. Particularly, from the usability evaluation, a 3D printed target artifact which is similar in shape to original heritage artifact, achieved the highest scores among the various tested targets.
