This paper has dealt with the heat storage characteristics of gel type micro size latent heat storage material slurry. The heat release operation to the gel type micro size latent heat storage material slurry was carried out using hot air bubbles by direct contact heat exchange. This experiment was carried out using phase change material of n-paraffin so the heat release amount is higher than cold water system. The parameters of this experiment were concentration of latent heat phase change material, height of heat release bath and inlet velocity of hot air. The main results obtained are as follows : (1) The effect of concentration of latent heat phase change material dispersed with water is very affective to the direct contact heat exchange between hot air and gel type micro size latent heat storage material slurry. (2) It is clarified that the most effective concentration of latent heat phase change material dispersed with water exists around 20mass% at this type of direct heat exchange model experiment.

Due to the plasma applied from the outside, which acts as an etchant during the etching process, considerable heat is transferred to the wafer and a separate cooling process is performed to effectively remove the heat after the process. In this case, a direct cooling method using a refrigerant is suitable for cooling through effective heat exchange. The direct cooling method using the refrigerant using the latent heat exchange is superior to the cooling method using the sensible heat exchange. Therefore, in this paper, AMESim is used to design a direct refrigerant cooling system using latent heat exchange simulator was built.The constructed simulator is reliable compared with the actual experimental results. It is expected that this simulator will help to design and search for optimal process conditions.

Boiler efficiency has a direct impact on energy consumptions, which results in lower cost of operations and services. Usually high efficiency boilers are regarded as boilers with an efficiency of greater than 90%. However, it is likely that normal boilers are running at significantly lower efficiencies than this. This paper presents a process of developing a highly efficient energy consumption boiler. We adopt direct heat method while normal boilers are designed as indirect heat method. The submerged combustion method is considered to design for very high efficient boiler.

In order to study the manufacturing possibility of connecting rod by direct quenching method, the difference between connecting rod by direct quenching and that by general heat treatment were investigated by observing microstructure, by measuring mechanical properties, by conducting fatigue testing, and by measuring the amount of tool wear in actual cutting. Connecting rod manufactured by direct quenching had better fatigue life than that by general heat treatment, which was due to homogeneous microstructure, and higher strength. The amount of cutting tool wear of connecting rod by direct quenching was higher than that by general heat treatment, which was due to low machinability and high toughness of tempered martensite microstructure. Therefore it will be added the study of heat treatment and cutting condition for manufacturing by direct quenching.

In this study, experimental investigations to find cold energy storage performance have been made for two different temperatures at condenser. Temperatures at inlet and outlet of condenser were measured to calculate global heat transfer coefficient of direct contact method in our cold energy storage system. Also storage performance by direct contact method was compared with that of Ice-On-Coil type ice storage which was calculated by analytic solution. Results show that, in the case of $-8.0^{\circ}C$ at condenser inlet, heat transfer coefficient of direct contact method is 3.25 times higher than that of conventional method and COP of system is improved by using R141b as refrigerant which produces gas hydrate and has higher phase change temperature than $0.0^{\circ}C$.

A direct contact heat exchanger using particle-suspended gas as a heat transfer medium is analyzed with an extended emphasis on the radiation, i. e., considering the radiation by both gas and particles. While the Runge-Kutta method is used for a numerical analysis of the momentum and energy equations, the finite volume method is utilized to solve the radiative transfer equation. Present study shows a notable effect by the gas radiation in addition to the particle radiation, especially when changing the chamber length as well as the gas and particle mass flow rate. When the gas and particle mass flow rate is raised, the gas temperature in the particle heater still increases as the gas absorption coefficient increases, which is different from the results for the small scale heat exchanger.

The purpose of this study is to compare the different shapes of condenser of the direct contact heat transfer from the heat pipe condenser to the receiving water using CFD. The heat transfer from the working fluid of the heat pipe to receiving fluid flows through the manifolder is one of the important part in evacuated solar collector system. The retrenchment of the thermal resistance between the heat pipe and the manifolder could increase the thermal performances of the whole system. Recently, direct heat transfer from the heat pipe condenser wall to the receiving water was suggested and accompanied experiments were achieved. This experiment shows the better performances of the direct contact heat transfer analogically. Preceding calculations are carried out for the performance comparison: mesh dependence test, discretization method test and equation model test. with these preceding tests, 4 different shapes of condenser are compared and each case were set up for the same heat flux at the condenser wall. The calculation result shows that the efficiency of the extended surface condenser shape is 10% higher then the that of the others.

The concept of temperature distribution in inhomogeneous semi-infinite solids is examined by making use of direct integration method. The analysis is done on the solution of the in-plane steady state heat conduction problem under certain boundary conditions. The method of direct integration has been employed, which is then reduced to Volterra integral equation of second kind, produces the explicit form analytical solution. Using resolvent- kernel algorithm, the governing equation is solved to get present solution. The temperature distribution obtained and calculated numerically and the relation with distribution of heat flux generated by internal heat source is shown graphically.

The inverse heat conduction problems is the calculation of surface heat transfer coefficients by utilizing measured temperature. The numerical technique of finite element analysis and optimizition is introduced to calculate temperatures and heat transfer coefficients. The calculated heat transfer coefficients and temperature distribution are good agreement with the results of direct analysis. The inverse method has been applied to the control valve of nuclear power plant.
