Three control strategies that can be applied to a three-phase AC-DC converter under unbalanced input voltage condition are discussed. Analytic solutions are given on the a-b-c frame, and are very simple, direct and Intuitive. All of the strategies guarantee sinusoidal input currents. All the control functions, including decoupled current control and PWM, are implemented on the a-b-c frame. Accordingly, the controller is very simple and robust. The proposal is verified by simulation and experiments on a prototype operating at 15 kHz

A direct current electric power system is one of the most important power source in a metro railway system. As railway system is growing up today, the importance of DC electric power system is emphasized. The study for systemization and standardization of design and operation technique in DC electric power system is undergoing nowadays. For these studies, the development of standard analysis model for metro railway electric power system is required. In this paper, a standard analysis model for metro railway electric power system which is using PSCAD/EMTDC program is proposed. The proposed model is explained and the validity is shown by using the case studies.

In this paper, we propose a new, effective, fast motion estimation algorithms using $4{\times}4$ pixels Hadamard transform. The Hadamard transform has the advantage of simplicity because it uses only addition and subtraction. Motion estimation is composed of three stages. First, it should be decided whether to terminate the search early and use a previous motion vector with DC(Direct Current) coefficients. Then the adaptive matching scan order for motion estimation should be determined according to the image complexity using AC(Alternating Current) coefficients. Experimentally, we adapted this algorithms to MVFAST and PMVFAST algorithms, and the proposed algorithms turn out to be very efficient in terms of computational speed while remaining almost the same in terms of PSNR(Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio) compared to MVFAST and PMVFAST algorithms.

With the wide spread of direct current(DC) electric railroads in Korea, the stray current or leakage currents from negative return rails become a pending problem to the safety of nearby underground Infrastructures. The most widely used mitigation method for this interference is the stray current drainage method, which connects the underground metallic structures to the rails with diodes (polarized drainage) or thyristor (forced drainage). This method, however, inherently possesses some drawbacks such as an increase of total leakage torrents from rails, expansion of interference zone, etc. In order to resolve these drawbacks, we developed a rapid potential-controled rectifier and applied to a depot area where stray current inference is very severe. The effect of this method was analyzed from the field tell data and we suggest this method can be an excellent alternative to the drainage-bond-based mitigation methods.

In order to study the AC driving mechanism for OLED lighting, the fluorescent OLEDs were fabricated and the electroluminescent characteristics of the OLEDs by AC forward bias were analyzed. In the case of the driving method of OLED by AC forward bias under the same voltage and the same current density, degradation of luminescent characteristics for elapsed time progressed faster than in the case of the driving method by DC bias. These phenomena were caused by the peak voltage of AC forward bias which is ${\sqrt{2}}$ times higher than the DC voltage. In addition, the degradation of the OLED was accelerated because the AC forward bias had come close to the upper limit of the allowable voltage range even though the peak voltage didn't exceed the allowable range of the OLED. However, the fabricated fluorescent OLED showed little degradation of OLED characteristics due to AC forward bias from 0 V to 6.04 V. Therefore, OLED lighting by AC driving will become commercialized if sufficient luminance is realized at a voltage at which the characteristics of the OLED are not degradation by the AC driving method.

Switched reluctance motor(SRM) has simple magnetic structure, and requires simple power electronic driving circuit. It is very useful for wide range adjustable speed drive system. But, SRM drive generates large vibration and acoustic noise because it is commutated individually by step pulse m.m.f of each phase pole. In the vibration and acoustic noise characteristics. The considerable vibration and noise is induced by radial deforming of stator, so the frequency of dominant vibration and noise is coincident with the frequency of natural mode frequency of mechanical structure. This radial vibration force is generated in the phase commutation region. This paper suggests the new electromagnetic structure of SRM with auxiliary commutation winding which is excited by direct current. This phase and commutation winding are coupled magnetically between one phase winding and the other. Therefore, the switch-off phase current is absorbed by the another phase winding. By this interaction of phase and commutation winding in commutation mechanism, vibration and noise is reduced. And this reduction effect is examined by the test of prototype machine. As a result, SRM with DC exciting commutation winding is very useful to reduce vibration and acoustic noise.

The main objective of this paper is to design and test a new type of polymer ZnO surge arrester for DC power system of railroad vehicles. The rated voltage is 1500v direct current. The main research works are focused on structure design by finite element method, rat ing vol tape, temporary over vol tape and studies of character int ice of polymeric surge arrester .
In this work, a straightforward component design of a direct current (DC) relay equipped in electric vehicles is discussed. The work aims to provide and evaluate effective measures for reducing high-frequency sound from the DC relay carrying electric power. From the operation experiments for the relay, it is observed that noise is caused by the resonance from the forced vibration by the electromagnetic repulsive force originating at the area of electric contacts with a resonance frequency of around 710 Hz ~ 730 Hz. A finite element model for the relay was established to conduct vibration mode analysis, consisting of stationary and movable contacts and a contact spring. Vibration mode analysis indicates that in the resonance frequency, the movable contact with two-point contacts experiences rotational vibration mode. For the proposed relay with a three-point contact, vibration mode analyses give reasonable results of reducing noise at that frequency. Furthermore, for the fabricated relays with the three-point contact, similar results have been obtained. In conclusion, one can see that the proposed measures provide one of the feasible solutions to the reduction of relay noise.

As international environmental regulations on ship emissions are gradually strengthened, interest in electric propulsion and hybrid propulsion ships is increasing, and various solutions are being developed and applied to these ships, especially stabilization of the power system and system efficiency. The direct current distribution system is being applied as a way to increase the power. In addition, verification and testing of safety and performance of marine DC distribution systems is required. As a result of establishing a DC distribution test bed, verifying the performance of the DC distribution (variable speed power generation) system, and analyzing fuel consumption, this study applied a variable speed power generation system that is applied to DC power distribution for ships, and converted the power output from the generator into a rectifier. A system was developed to convert direct current power to connect to the system and monitor and control these devices. Through tests using this DC distribution system, the maximum voltage was 751.5V and the minimum voltage was 731.4V, and the voltage fluctuation rate was 2.7%, confirming that the voltage is stably supplied within 3%, and a variable speed power generation system was installed according to load fluctuations. When applied, it was confirmed through testing that fuel consumption could be reduced by more than 20% depending on the section compared to the existing constant speed power generation system.

In this study, we investigated the color change of the normal light gray granite as the high value color granite. By coating the metal catalyst liquid on the surface of granite stone, the metal particles were penetrated into the granite and the color of granite was changed permanently through the annealing treatment. To increase penetration depth into the granite, we used DC (direct current) bias. Two kinds of bias were used such as DC bias and pulse DC bias. And the penetration time was changed as 30 and 60 min. In all cases, the color granite were successfully obtained. Regardless of the catalyst reaction time, the penetration depth was increased by using the bias treatment. We obtained a penetration depth of 21 mm with the DC pulse bias during 60 min.
