  • It has been reported that destruction test by core collection is the most reliable of the structural concrete strength in present building construction field. But it causes low efficiency by damage and cutting in structure due to the core collection. It also has some problems in repairing. Additionally in case of strength test with management specimen, different environment compared to the structure environment cause problems about estimation precise structure strength. Therefore, it is required to develop structure direct strength test that has test values and credibility above the ones obtained by core specimen collection strength test and seasonal specimen test to suggest a reasonable and practical management method of structural concrete.

  • Purpose: Anthropometry can be divided into two methods, direct anthropometry and indirect anthropometry. The most ideal and accurate method is a direct anthropometry. However, it is difficult to measure in the case of children because of poor cooperation, and it lacks re-productivity. Cast model has advantages of three dimensional featuring, inexpensive and easy fabrication. This study is conducted to find out an accuracy of indirect anthropometry on cast model by comparing it with direct anthropometry. Methods: Total 48 cleft lip nasal deformity patients (unilateral, 40; bilateral, 8) were included in this study. Cast models were made before surgery under general anesthesia with alginate impression material and model plaster. Eleven linear measurements among 7 landmarks were taken as direct anthropometry before surgery with Castroviejo spreading caliper. At the same time, indirect anthropometry on cast model was done at the same linear distances as well. Results: Of the total 11 linear measurements, both ala lengths, both columella lengths, nose width, projective distance between facial insertion points of the ala, projective distance between the alar base points, right nostril floor width, and columella width were statistically correlated between indirect anthropometry on cast model and direct anthropometry. However, the nasal tip protrusion and the left nostril floor width were not statistically correlated. Conclusion: Accuracy of indirect anthropometry on cast model can be influenced by cast model fabrication techniques and correct identification of landmarks. Nasal tip protrusion could be reduced by compression of the nasal tip in the process of cast model fabrication and nostril floor width can be varied by muscle relaxation of anesthetics and incorrect identification of subalare in cleft lip nasal deformity. If sufficient care is taken to make cast model and to define landmarks exactly, indirect anthropometry on cast model can be a reliable method as direct anthropometry.

  • The existing CHF correlations for internally heated concentric annulus channels are assessed using KAIST CHF database for uniformly heated vertical annuli. Six annulus correlations (Jannsen-Kervinen. Barnett, Levitan-Lantsman, Kumamaru et al., Doerffer et al., and Bobkov et at.) are chosen for assessment based on literature survey and Groeneveld et al.'s CHF table for round tube is also assessed for comparison. Among the above correlations, two are inlet-condition type and others local conditions type. To make the comparison meaningful, the local-condition-type correlations are assessed in two ways: direct substitution method (DSM) and heat balance condition method (HBM). Totally 1174 data are classified into 10 groups based on pressure and mass flux conditions and correlations are assessed to each group separately. Prediction capability of each correlation depends on the data group and none shows the best prediction over the entire group. In overall, the correlations by Doerffer et al. and Jannsen et al. appear to be the best, but Barnett or Levitan-Lantsman correlations also show reasonable prediction for most groups. However, the low-pressure, ]ow flow CHFs are not well predicted by any correlations. The CHF table for round tubes overpredicts the CHF in annuli at fixed local conditions.

  • The objective of this paper is to simulate the dynamic behavior of a floating structure model, using image processing and close-range photogrammetry, instead of the contact sensors. Previously, the movement of structure was presented through the exterior orientation estimation of a single camera by space resection. The inverse resection yields the 6 orientation parameters of the floating structure, with respect to the camera coordinate system. The single camera solution is of interest in applications characterized by restriction in term of costs, unfavorable observation conditions, or synchronization demands when using multiple cameras. This article discusses the theoretical determinations of camera exterior orientation based on Direct Linear Transformation and photogrammetric resection using least squares adjustment. The proposed method was used to monitor the motion of a floating model. The results of six degrees of freedom (6-DOF) by inverse resection show that the appropriate initial values by DLT can be effectually applied in least squares adjustment, to obtain the precision of exterior orientation parameters. Additionally, a comparison between the close-range photogrammetry and total station results was feasibly verified. Therefore, the proposed method can be considered as an efficient solution to simulating the movement of floating structure.

  • A stereoscopic PIV (SPIV) measurement system based on the translation configuration was developed and applied to the flow behind a forward-swept axial-fan. Measurement of three orthogonal velocity components is essential for flow analysis of three-dimensional flows such as flow around a fan or propeller. In this study, the translation configuration was adopted to calculate the out-of-plane velocity component from 2-D PIV data obtained from two CCD cameras. The error caused by the out-of-plane motion was estimated by direct comparison of the 2-D PIV and 3-D SPIV results that measured from the particle images captured simultaneously. The comparison shows that the error ratio is relatively high in the region of higher out-of-plane motion near the axial fan blade. The turbulence intensity measured by the 2-D PIV method is bigger by about 5.8% in maximum compared with that of the 3-D SPIV method. The phase-averaged velocity field results show that the wake behind an axial fan has a periodic flow structure with respect to the blade phase and the characteristic flow structure is shifted downstream in the next phase.

  • The most recent improvement in the 10 V array system was carried out with focusing on noise reduction. We have evaluated the uncertainty of the 10 V Josephson array system after the improvement. The uncertainty evaluation of 10 V standard included a comparison with a programmable Josephson array system at 1 V. Every contribution to the measurement uncertainty was evaluated in the level of $10^{-10}$. The estimated combined uncertainty was found to be approximately $10^{-9}$ at 10 V, which was limited only by the indirect verifying method. In the near future, a direct comparison with another 10 V Josephson voltage standard is expected to be carried out to provide more accurate uncertainty evaluation for the KRISS Josephson voltage standard.

  • Purpose $^{99m}Tc-DMSA$ renal scan is a test for the comparison of the function by imaging the parenchyma of the kidneys by the cortex of a kidney and by computing the intake ratio of radiation by the left and right kidney. Since the distance between the kidneys and the bladder is not far given the bodily structure of an infant, the bladder is included in the examination domain. Research was carried out with the presumption that counts of bladder would impart an influence on the kidneys at the time of this renal scan. In consideration of the special feature that only a trace amount of a RI is injected in a pediatric examination, research on the method of injection was also carried out concurrently. Materials and Methods With 34 infants aged between 1 month to 12 months for whom a $^{99m}Tc-DMSA$ renal scan was implemented on the subjects, a Post IMAGE was acquired in accordance with the test time after having injected the same quantity of DMSA of 0.5mCi. Then, after having acquired an additional image by shielding the bladder by using a circular lead plate for comparison purposes, a comparison was made by illustrating the percentile of (Lt. Kidney counts + Rt. Kidney counts)/ Total counts, by drawing the same sized ROI (length of 55.2mm X width of 70.0mm). In addition, in the format of a 3-way stopcock, a Heparin cap and direct injection into the patient were performed in accordance with RI injection methods. The differences in the count changes in accordance with each of the methods were compared by injecting an additional 2cc of saline into the 3-way stopcock and Heparin cap. Results The image prior to shielding of the bladder displayed a kidney intake rate with a deviation of $70.9{\pm}3.18%$ while the image after the shielding of the bladder displayed a kidney intake rate with a deviation of $79.4{\pm}5.19%$, thereby showing approximately 6.5~8.5% of difference. In terms of the injection method, the method that used the 3-way form, a deviation of $68.9{\pm}2.80%$ prior to the shielding and a deviation of $78.1{\pm}5.14%$ after the shielding were displayed. In the method of using a Heparin cap, a deviation of $71.3{\pm}5.14%$ prior to the shielding and a deviation of $79.8{\pm}3.26%$ after the shielding were displayed. Lastly, in the method of direct injection into the patient, a deviation of $75.1{\pm}4.30%$ prior to the shielding and a deviation of $82.1{\pm}2.35%$ after the shielding were displayed, thereby illustrating differences in the kidney intake rates in the order of direct injection, a Heparin cap and the 3-way methods. Conclusion Since a substantially minute quantity of radiopharmaceuticals is injected for infants in comparison to adults, the cases of having shielded the bladder by removing radiation of the bladder displayed kidney intake rates that are improved from those of the cases of not having shielded the bladder. Although there are difficulties in securing blood vessels, it is deemed that the method of direct injection would be more helpful in acquisition of better images since it displays improved kidney intake rate in comparison to other methods.

  • Recently constructed ships are equipped with high efficiency propeller for low fuel consumption and comfortable operation. Based on the torsional vibration analysis of the shaft system of the high efficiency propeller, using the propeller damping method considering the characteristics of previous propeller designs, a considerable amount of analysis errors are found to be generated. These errors are expected to increase as the development of high efficiency vibration propellers continues. In this paper, errors in torsional vibration analysis, in accordance with various propeller damping methods, are reviewed. In addition, a propeller damping method suitable for use at present is suggested by reviewing the comparison results of analysis and measurement values according to the propeller damping methods for vessels adopting the high efficiency direct-coupled propeller with 10MW class.

  • The development and maintenance of a sound bond are essential requirements of concrete repair and replacement. The bond property of a overlay to its substrate concrete during the lifetime is one of the most important performance requirements which should be quantified. A standard or a verified bond strength measurement method is required at field for screening, selecting materials and quality control for overlay or repair materials, but no test method has been adopted as a standard. In this study, a concrete pull off bond strength measurement method for field application is proposed and evaluated. This study compares the splitting tensile test, slant shear test, nipple pipe direct tensile test, flexural adhesion test, briquette tensile test, jumbo nail pull-out test and core pull-off test with their test procedures. From these comparison and investigation, core pull-off test is selected as a main topic of this study because of it's suitability for in situ testing, simplicities in field application and clearness at interface boundary condition. Thus, the proposed core pull off test is evaluated to be the most appropriate method for field application in a simple manner. The fracture surface and fracture mode could be easily determined by visual observation of failure surface of the field specimen. The core pull off test was found to be sensitive to surface condition and latex contents at latex modified concrete.

  • In this work, it is aimed to develop the fabrication method of axial stress corrosion cracking (SCC) defects having various sizes, on the outer diameter surface of the steam generator (SG) tubings. To control the length of the artificial SCC defect, the specific area of the SG tubing samples was exposed to an acidic solution after a sensitization heat treatment. During the exposure to an acidic solution, a direct current potential drop (DCPD) method was adopted to monitor the crack depth. The size of the SCC defect was first evaluated by an eddy current test (ECT), and then confirmed by a destructive examination. From the comparison, it was found that the actual crack length was well controlled to be similar to the length of the surface exposed to an acidic solution (5, 10, 20 or 30 mm in this work) with small standard deviation. From in-situ monitoring of the crack depth using the DCPD method, it was possible to distinguish a non-through wall crack from a through wall crack, even though the depth of the non-through wall crack was not able to be precisely controlled. The fabrication method established in this work was useful to simulate the SCC defect having similar size and ECT signals as compared to the field cracks in the SG tubings of the operating Korean PWRs.
