CD-ROM 드라이브의 대물렌즈 입자오염이 Laser Diode의 Power와 Photo Diode의 RF Signal에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Particle Contamination on Objective Lens in a CD-ROM Drive on Laser Diode Power and Photo Diode RF Signal)

  • A number of dust particles are intruded into ODD(Optical disk drive) due to the flow caused by disk rotation and are adhered to a lens or disk surface. The space between the disk and the lens is being reduced. Someone indicates the problems of this drive that are relatively small data storing capacity and slow access time. In recent, the problems of this optical disk drive mentioned above are being solved by adding the speed of the disk's revolution, making the actuator high-speed or light, and making the beam spot size smaller than making the space narrow between disk and lens. These particle contamination affects seriously RF Signal, readout signal in an ODD. Especially, the affected parts by a particle contamination in an ODD's readout signal are objective lens and media.

High-brightness Phosphor-conversion White Light Source Using InGaN Blue Laser Diode

  • A phosphor-conversion white light source is demonstrated using an InGaN-based blue laser diode (LD) and a yellow-emitting phosphor excited by the blue LD. The photometric and colorimetric properties of this blue-LD-based white light source are characterized. When injection current of the LD is 100 mA, luminous flux and luminous efficiency of the white light are found to be over 5 lm and 10 lm/W, respectively. When injection current is >90 mA, luminance is estimated to be larger than 10 Mcd/$cm^2$. In addition, color characteristics of the white light such as chromaticity coordinates, a correlated color temperature, and a color rendering index are found to be quite stable as current and temperature of the LD varies. The demonstrated LD-based white light source is expected to be used in high-brightness illumination applications with good color stability.

4세대 박형 CD 광학 픽업 개발 (Development of the 4th Generation CD Optical Pick-up with Small Thickness)

  • The 3rd generation optical pick-up used popularly in resent years is composed of many optical and electronic components such as laser diode, photo diode, beam splitter, objective lens, grating lens, concave lens, collimator lens etc. Therefore, the design of its optical system and its main base which the said optical and electronic components are set on, is complicated and needs high precision. Its assembly and adjustment in the production line is also difficult. This complication and the demand of high precision get its production cost to be high and its reliability to be low. In this paper, the 4th generation optical pick-up is designed and developed, with the hologram device which laser diode. photo diode, beam splitter. and grating lens are integrated in. This optical pick-up reduces the number of points of adjustment by 3, compared with the 3rd generation optical pick-up of which the number of points of adjustment is 6. This optical pickup also decreases by 4 the number of points of W bonding to have bad influence on environmental reliability, decreases by about 10 the number of parts, and establishes about 20% cost-down of material cost, compared with the 3rd generation optical pick-up.

  • Laser bonding between similar and dissimilar thermoplastics has been investigated by making use of laser transmission weld technique. Spot welding of two layers of plastic materials has been demonstrated by using of a high-quality diode-laser with 808nm wavelength. Weld areas increases according to power density, exposure time. The results of peel out test show that peel strengths increase with the area of molten plastics. Layers, which have the same chemical properties, have good bonding qualities. A bonding method which dye film is coated on the interface is used for laser bonding between plastics with high transmission for laser wavelength. Laser transmission bonding is worthy of attention because it is not in contact, requires a few tooling devices, allows a flexible energy delivery and produces nearly invisible welds

  • 열응력 완화 기술은 고출력 레이저 다이오드의 빔의 품질과 안정성을 향상시키기 위한 주요 요소기술로 큰 주목을 받고 있다. 본 연구에서는 레이저 다이오드 바(LD-bar) chip-on-submount (CoS)에 발생하는 열응력 분포 양상을 SolidWorks 소프트웨어를 사용하여 해석하고, 마이크로-홈 구조 도입에 따라 열응력 완화에 미치는 영향을 체계적으로 분석한다. 마이크로-홈 구조는 누적응력을 차단하는 효과가 있는 반면, 열흐름을 방해하는 역기능도 있으므로, 시스템 구조와 방열금속판 두께에 따라 홈 깊이를 최적화할 필요가 있다. 간단히 도입된 예시구조에 대하여, LD-bar CoS의 칩 홀더 금속판에 도입하는 마이크로-홈 구조 최적화를 통해 칩 전면부 표면 응력을 마이크로-홈 구조가 없는 경우의 약 1/5 정도로 낮추었다. 향후 초고출력 시스템에서 방열을 위한 열저항과 광출력 빔크기를 최소한으로 유지하면서, 열응력을 효과적으로 완화시키는 구조로 활용이 기대된다.

Performance of Hybrid Laser Diodes Consisting of Silicon Slab and InP/InGaAsP Deep-Ridge Waveguides

  • The fundamental transverse mode lasing of a hybrid laser diode is a prerequisite for efficient coupling to a single-mode silicon waveguide, which is necessary for a wavelength-division multiplexing silicon interconnection. We investigate the lasing mode profile for a hybrid laser diode consisting of silicon slab and InP/InGaAsP deep ridge waveguides. When the thickness of the top silicon is 220 nm, the fundamental transverse mode is lasing in spite of the wide waveguide width of $3.7{\mu}m$. The threshold current is 40 mA, and the maximum output power is 5 mW under CW current operation. In the case of a thick top silicon layer (1 ${\mu}m$), the higher modes are lasing. There is no significant difference in the thermal resistance of the two devices.

  • 레이저 다이오드의 자기혼합 효과를 이용한 조직혈류측정을 위한 기초연구를 하였다. 이동물체로 인한 레이저 도플러 신호를 자기혼합 효과에 의해 검출하였으며, 피검자의 인지로부터 비관혈적으로 조직의 혈류 변화를 측정할 수 있었다. 이동 물체의 이동속도가 변함에 따라 자기혼합 효과에 의한 도플러 편이 주파수는 선형적으로 변하였으며, in-vivo 실험의 인지에서 측정된 토플러 신호는 운동후의 주파수가 운동전의 주파수 보다 높았으며, 이는 운동생리학적인 결과와도 일치하였다.

  • On-line process control equipment for CO $_{2}$ laser cutting is unavailable for industrial application. The major part of the industrial cutting machines are regulated off-line by highly educated engineers. The quality inspection of the sample is visual and referred to different quality scales. Due to lack of automation potential laser users hesitate to implement the cutting method. The first step toward an automation of the process is development of a process monitoring system and the research is concentrated on the area of on-line quality detection during CO $_{2}$ laser cutting. The method bases on the detection of the emitted light from the cut front by photo diode. the signal from photo diode has been undertaken from Fourier analysis and statistical analysis. As a result, it is possible to estimate striation pattern according to beam travel speed.

  • 최근 FPD (Flat Pannel Display) 시장이 커짐에 따라 고효율, 저비용 제작 공정이 화두로 떠오르고 있다. ELA (Excimer Laser Annenling)을 이용한 LTPS (Low Temperature Poly Silicon) 공정은 mobility와 전류 점멸비 등에서 장점을 가지지만, 고비용, 대면적과 short-range에서 uniformity가 어렵다는 단점이 있다. 이를 극복하기 위한 방법으로 dLTA (diode Laser Thermal Annealing) 공정에 대한 연구가 진행되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 Flexible Display을 만들기 위한 방법으로 dLTA 공정을 진행하였다. 이 방법은 PI (Poly imide) 기판 위에 a-Si을 ICP CVD로 증착시킨 후, Diode Laser (980 nm)를 이용한 annealing을 통하여 a-Si이 poly-Si으로 결정화가 되는 것을 확인하였고, 에너지 조사량에 따른 grain boundary와 grain size을 통하여 비교 분석하였다. 실험 결과 ELA 공정을 이용한 것과 버금가는 실험 결과를 얻을 수 있었다.

  • Recently, the research on artificial retina for the blind is active. In this paper a new optical link method for the retinal prosthesis is proposed. Laser diode system was chosen to transfer image into the eye in this project and the new optical system was designed and evaluated. The use of laser diode array in artificial retina system makes system simple for lack of signal processing part inside of the eyeball. Designed optical system is enough to focus laser diode array on photodiode array in 20$\times$20 application.
