  • In part forming process of metal matrix composites, the die casting and squeeze casting process are limited the size and dimension in term of final parts without machining. The thixoforming process for metal matrix composites has numerous advantages compared to die casting squeeze casting and compocasting. However, for the thixoforming process, the billet with the desired volume fraction must be heated to obtain a uniform temperature distribution over the entire cross-sectional areas. To obtain the reheating conditions of composites, the particulate reinforced metal matrix composites for thixoforming were fabricated by combined stirring process which is simultaneously performed with electro-magnetic stirring and mechanical stirring process.

  • Nine shrub layer communities under two relatively well conserved natural summer green forests in the central region of Korean Peninsula were studied for the pattern of stem distribution in terms of Greig-Smith's multiple split-plot experiment and for the association between the population of the two main species in terms of Kershaw's covariance analysis respectively. Four contiguous belt transects, $4{\times}64m size with 1{\times}1m$ basic unit, were set in each shrub layer communities. Significant primary clumps with $1{\times}1m or 1{\times}2m$ dimension wer observed consistently throughout the nine study sites. The primary clumps themselves were significantly distributed either regularly or at random. The association between the two principal species of each shrub layer is highly significantly either positive or negative in $1{\times}1m or 1{\times}2m$ dimension. As the plot size increases from $1{\times}1m to 8{\times}8m$ the associational trends were changed from negative to positive direction in one forests. But the change from positive to negative direction and the consistent negative association were also observed from the other forest. All of the association trends were observed only from $1{\times}1m to 4{\times}4m$ dimension. These results are suggestive that the distributional pattern of the shrub layer species under the summer green forest is simple mosaic fashioned with $1{\times}1m or 1{\times}2m$ dimension. The rest of the principal species are located in that matrix. The simple mosaic pattern of two principal species are located in that matrix. The simple mosaic pattern of two principal species seems to be controlled by change in micro-environmental pattern. Differences between the primary random group and clumped group among sites also suggest that competition exists for light or/and soil between primary clumped groups.

  • In this paper, we implement a real-time textile dimension inspection system. It can detect various types of real defects which determine the quality of fabric product, defect positions of textile, classify the distortion angel of moving textile and the density. In the implemented system, we measure the density of textile using zone-crossing method with optical lens to solve the noise and real-time problems. And we compensate distortion angel of textile with the classification of distortion types using gaussian gradient and mean gradient features. And also, it detecs real defects of textile and its positions using gray level co-occurrence matrix features. The implemented texile demension inspection systemcan inspect textile dimensions such as density, distortion angle, defect of textile and defect position at real-time. In the implemented proposed texitile dimension inspection system, It is possible to calculate density and detect default of textile at real-time dimension inspection system, it is possible to calculate density and detect default of textile at textile states throughout at all the significant working process such as dyeing, manufacturing, and other texitle processing.

  • In the fuzzy theory, a matrix A is idempotent if $A^2=A$. The idempotent fuzzy matrices are important in various applications and have many interesting properties. Using the upper diagonal completion process, we have the zero patterns of idempotent fuzzy matrix, that is, the idempotent Boolean matrices. In addition, we give the construction of all idempotent fuzzy matrices for each dimension n.

  • Let $F{\subseteq}{\mathbb{P}}^3$ be a smooth surface of degree $3{\leq}d{\leq}9$ whose equation can be expressed as either the determinant of a $d{\times}d$ matrix of linear forms, or the pfaffian of a $(2d){\times}(2d)$ matrix of linear forms. In this paper we show that F supports families of dimension p of pairwise non-isomorphic, indecomposable, Ulrich bundles for arbitrary large p.

  • To reduce the high dimensionality required for training of feature vectors in speaker identification, we propose an efficient GMM based on local PCA with Fuzzy clustering. The proposed method firstly partitions the data space into several disjoint clusters by fuzzy clustering, and then performs PCA using the fuzzy covariance matrix in each cluster. Finally, the GMM for speaker is obtained from the transformed feature vectors with reduced dimension in each cluster. Compared to the conventional GMM with diagonal covariance matrix, the proposed method needs less storage and shows faster result, under the same performance.

  • This paper proposes a qualitative reasoning approach for the spatial configuration of mechanisms that could be applied in the early phase of the conceptual design. The spatial configuration problem addressed in this paper involves the relative direction and position between the input and output motion, and the orientation of the constituent primitive mechanisms of a mechanism. The knowledge of spatial configuration of a primitive mechanism is represented in a matrix form called spatial configuration matrix. This matrix provides a compact and convenient representation scheme for the spatial knowledge, and facilitates the manipulation of the relevant spatial knowledge. Using this spatial knowledge of the constituent primitive mechanisms, the overall configuration of a mechanism is described and identified by a spatial configuration state matrix. This matrix is obtained by using a qualitative reasoning method based on sign algebra and is used to represent the qualitative behavior of the mechanism. The matrix-based representation scheme allows handling the involved spatial knowledge simultaneously and the proposed reasoning method enables the designer to predict the spatial behavior of a mechanism without knowing specific dimension of the components of the mechanism.

  • In this paper, we proposed new speech feature parameter through parts-based feature extraction of speech spectrum using Non-Negative Matrix Factorization (NMF). NMF can effectively reduce dimension for multi-dimensional data through matrix factorization under the non-negativity constraints, and dimensionally reduced data should be presented parts-based features of input data. For speech feature extraction, we applied Mel-scaled filter bank outputs to inputs of NMF, than used outputs of NMF for inputs of speech recognizer. From recognition experiment result, we could confirm that proposed feature parameter is superior in recognition performance than mel frequency cepstral coefficient (MFCC) that is used generally.

  • An investigation was performed to study the impact damage in CFRP laminated composites subjected to impact loading. A finite element model has been developed for predicting the impact damage in laminated composite plates resulting from the ballistic impact. The finite element model was based on the higher-order shear deformation theory and was used to predict the initial intraply matrix cracking and the shape and size of interface delamination in laminated composites. Numerical simulation was performed and then the initiation of the matrix cracking and the shape and size of impacted induced delamination were predicted, and te results were compared with those of impact experiments with the same dimension and stacking sequences. A linear relationship holds between impact velocity and length and width of delamination. As impact velocity is increased, the increase of delamination length is highger than the increase of delamination width.

  • Collaborative filtering(CF) has been a very successful approach for building recommender system, but its widespread use has exposed to some well-known problems including sparsity and scalability problems. In order to mitigate these problems, we propose two novel models for improving the typical CF algorithm, whose names are ISCF(Item-Selected CF) and USCF(User-Selected CF). The modified models of the conventional CF method that condense the original dataset by reducing a dimension of items or users in the user-item matrix may improve the prediction accuracy as well as the efficiency of the conventional CF algorithm. As a tool to optimize the reduction of a user-item matrix, our study proposes genetic algorithms. We believe that our approach may relieve the sparsity and scalability problems. To validate the applicability of ISCF and USCF, we applied them to the MovieLens dataset. Experimental results showed that both the efficiency and the accuracy were enhanced in our proposed models.
