The 3-D analysis of terrain for route design and selection is being used as important basic data for effective judgement of political draft. This study is to decide efficient alignment of the entry route and design bridge by modeling, analyzing and displaying surface with digital terrain data. In this study we analyze slope, aspect, shaded-relief, line of sight and watershed on the base of DTM such as contour, TIN and grid. And we can not only esti mate end-area volume for road construction by calculating cut and fill and displaying mass-curve but also recognize the scene after execution with simulation of road and terrain. The result of this study reveals that visual effects of the 3-D terrain data are very effective for designer and decisionmaker to select and review alternative route with regard to terrain characteristics.
In this paper, we presents an algorithm which restores lost data or increases resolution of a DTM(Digital terrain model) using fractal theory. Terrain information(fractal dimension and standard deviation) around the patch to be restored is extracted and then with this information and original data, the elevations of cells are interpolated using the random midpoint displacement method. The results of the proposed algorithm are compared with those of the bilinear and bicubic methods on a fractal terrain map.

The fire effectiveness and the operationability of the ground weapon system (such as tank, armored vehicle, howitzer, MLRS, ${\cdots}$), whose operations are usually happened on the ground, are dependent not only on their performances but also on the terrain environments. Especially, the artillery weapons systems' effectiveness is largely varied, because their maneuverability (such as translation, occupation of their sites) and the fire effectiveness are very dependent on the terrain. In this paper, presented are the methods how to analyze the terrain using the digital terrain data. And a software (which are implemented on the IBM PC compatible personal computer) is developed for the analysis of the terrain using the various method of computer Aided Geometric Design and Modeling. The S/W is expected to be very useful for the evaluation of the artillery weapon systems and for the commanders' decision making.
A watershed terrain factor is known to the very important in studies of a stream and a watershed. We have obtained the terrain factor in map directly or we have generated it in a digitalized map. In this study, DTED(Digital Terrain Elevation Data) offering in DMA(Defense Mapping Agency) was used to create a stream and a watershed and to extract the terrain factor. As comparison of the factors gererated in digitalized map the terrain factors extracted in DTED, DTED could be used to extract a terrain factor for a watershed management.
A terrain is an essential element for constructing a virtual world in which game characters and objects make various interactions with one another. Creating a terrain requires a great deal of time and repetitive editing processes. This paper presents a 3D terrain reconstruction system to create 3D terrain in virtual space based on real terrain data. In this system, it converts the coordinate system of the height maps which are generated from a stereo camera and a laser scanner from global GPS into 3D world using the x and z axis vectors of the global GPS coordinate system. It calculates the movement vectors and the rotation matrices frame by frame. Terrain meshes are dynamically generated and rendered in the virtual areas which are represented in an undirected graph. The rendering meshes are exactly created and updated by correcting terrain data errors. In our experiments, the FPS of the system was regularly checked until the terrain was reconstructed by our system, and the visualization quality of the terrain was reviewed. As a result, our system shows that it has 3 times higher FPS than other terrain management systems with Quadtree for small area, improves 40% than others for large area. The visualization of terrain data maintains the same shape as the contour of real terrain. This system could be used for the terrain system of realtime 3D games to generate terrain on real time, and for the terrain design work of CG Movies.

Digital high resolution cameras are widely available, and are increasingly use in digital close-range photogrammetry. And photogrammetry instruments are developing rapidly and the precision is improving continuously, The building of 3D terrains of high precision are possible and the calculation of the areas or the earthwork volumes have high precision due to the development of the technique of the spatial information system using computer, In this study, using the digital camera which has capacity of keeping numerical value by itself and easy carrying, we analyze the positioning error according to various change of photographing condition. Also we t]v to find a effective method of acquiring basis data for 3D monitoring of high-accuracy in pixel degree through digital close-range photogrammetry with bundle adjustment for local terrain model generation and earthwork volume.

Modern society is the age of a high state of information and demands more effective land information. Moreover, because the use of land in Korea is intensive, Korea requires more synthetic and systematic geographical information for which the digitizing of terrain is prerequisite. This study aims at development of the data structure which is suitable to the digitizing of terrain for Geographical Information System(GIS). Regular grid has been used generally in Digital Terrain Model(DTM), for it is easy to manipulate. But regular cannot reflect well the terrain surface features. In the meantime, Triangulated Irregular Network(TIN) has complex data structure, but it can describe well terrain surface features and is useful in various applications. In this paper the method which constructs effective DTM by improving TIN has been researched.

The article discusses the dead reckoning of the traveled path based on the analysis of the video data stream coming from the optoelectronic surveillance devices; the use of relief data makes it possible to partially compensate for the shortcomings of the first method. Using the overlap of the photo-video data stream, the terrain is restored. Comparison with a digital terrain model allows the location of the aircraft to be determined; the use of digital images of the terrain also allows you to determine the coordinates of the location and orientation by comparing the current view information. This method provides high accuracy in determining the absolute coordinates even in the absence of relief. It also allows you to find the absolute position of the camera, even when its approximate coordinates are not known at all.

In this thesis, we propose the 3D terrain modelling method for the better understanding of the geographic information. The process of 3D terrain medelling consists of three steps. The first step is to obtain real-world data from satellite images and stored in the form of DEM(Digital Elevation Model). The second one is to extract the meaningful data from DEM data based on LOD(Level Of Detail). And the third is to construct the 3D surface by TIN(Triangulated Irregular Network) with the extracted meaingful data. The proposed dynamic TIN reconstruction algorithm locally reconstruct the existed TIN model with the additional a new point. In this way, we can construct the TIN with the reduced time and can simulated 3D terrain model in real time.
This study has been accomplished as a experimental study for field application of 3D Perspective Image Map creation using Digital Topographical Map and based on the Ortho-Projection Image which is generated from Satellite Overlay Images and the precise Relative Coordinates of longitude, latitude and altitude which is corrected by GCP(Ground Control Point). AS to Contour Lines Map which is created by Coordinate conversion of 1:5,000 Topographical Map, we firstly made Satellite Image Map to substitute for Digital Topographical Map through overlapping the original images on top of each Ortho-Projection Image created and checking the accuracy. In addition to 3D Image Map creation for 3D Terrain analysis of a target district, Slope Gradient Analysis, Aspect Analysis and Terrain Elevation Model generation, multidirectional 3D Image generation by DEM can be carried out through this study. This study is to develop a mapping technology with which we can generate 3D Satellite Images of a target district through the composition of Digital Maps and Facility Blueprint and arbitrarily create 3D Perspective Images of the target district from any view point.
