  • The technique of birdeye image generation of terrain through the use of satellite digital images and digital maps are very important elements and have applications in fanning establishment as well as the actual design of several construction works in complex fields. This paper studies stereo perspective image generation as a possibility through 3-dimensional analysis combined with digital elevation data and remotely sensed images. For this, first of all, ortho-images generated by very accurate GCP and DEM from contour file makes 3-dimensional terrain analysis possible and allows stereoviewing at the highway construction planning sites. So, we developed the technical methods for the 3-dimensional approach on the planning sites of highways by use of perspective orthoimages. From this research, diverse terrain analysis is possible through stereo perspective image generation, and can leads to various application in road construction through gain study results from access to realtime virtual spatial on the objects area in korea.

  • In this study, we performed three dimensional(3-D) modeling and simulation of terrain surfaces by using large scale aerial photographs. The objectives of this study are to use landscape analysis including 3-D database of built environments. The test area is selected around Olympic stadium located in Susung-gu, Daegu. A 1:5,000 scale of ortho-photo map is generated by photogrammetric procedures from 1:20,000 scale of aerial photographs, Digital Elevation Model (DEM) is also extracted from stereo aerial photographs or digital maps. The heights of buildings are determined using GPS control survey and aerial photographs in the test area, DEMs are extracted from the digital map. And then the two are combined three-dimensional changes of landscape views of buildings with terrain are simulated.

  • Soil carbon(C) is an essential property for characterizing soil quality. Understanding spatial patterns of soil C is particularly limited for mountain areas. This study aims to predict the spatial pattern of soil C using terrain analysis in a steep mountainous area. Specifically, model performances and prediction uncertainties were investigated based on the number of resampling repetitions. Further, important predictors for soil C were also identified. Finally, the spatial distribution of uncertainty was analyzed. A total of 91 soil samples were collected via conditioned latin hypercube sampling and a digital soil C map was developed using support vector regression which is one of the powerful machine learning methods. Results showed that there were no distinct differences of model performances depending on the number of repetitions except for 10-fold cross validation. For soil C, elevation and surface curvature were selected as important predictors by recursive feature elimination. Soil C showed higher values in higher elevation and concave slopes. The spatial pattern of soil C might possibly reflect lateral movement of water and materials along the surface configuration of the study area. The higher values of uncertainty in higher elevation and concave slopes might be related to geomorphological characteristics of the research area and the sampling design. This study is believed to provide a better understanding of the relationship between geomorphology and soil C in the mountainous ecosystem.

  • The 3-D analysis of terrain for route design and selection is being used as important basic data for effective judgement of political draft. This study is to decide efficient alignment of the entry route and design bridge by modeling, analyzing and displaying surface with digital terrain data. In this study we analyze slope, aspect, shaded-relief, line of sight and watershed on the base of DTM such as contour, TIN and grid. And we can not only esti mate end-area volume for road construction by calculating cut and fill and displaying mass-curve but also recognize the scene after execution with simulation of road and terrain. The result of this study reveals that visual effects of the 3-D terrain data are very effective for designer and decisionmaker to select and review alternative route with regard to terrain characteristics.

  • Drone has been continuously studied in the field of geography and remote sensing. The basic researches have been actively carried out before the utilization in the field of photogrammetry. In Korea, it is necessary to study the actual way of research in accordance with the drone utilization environment. In particular, analysis on the characteristics of DSM (Digital Surface Model) generated through drone are needed. In this study, the characteristic of drone DSM as a data acquisition method was analyzed for coastal management. The coastal area was selected as the study area, and data was acquired by using drone. As a result of the study, the terrain model and the ortho image of coastal area were produced. The accuracy of UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) results were very high about 10cm at check points. However, concavo-convex shapes appeared in very flat areas such as tidal flats and roads. To correct this terrain model distortion, a new terrain model was created through data processing and the results were evaluated. If additional studies are carried out and the construction and analysis of terrain model using drone image is done, drone data for coastal management will be available.

  • Integrated approach is presented by developing the technology and the ways of the practical use of the integrated digital map of and Electronical Navigational Chart (ENC) and Digital Terrain Map (DTM) for the effective and scientific based conservation, development and management of coastal area in this study. At first as preliminary studies to make eventual integrated maps, the necessity of the integrated map is described with the concept of coastal areas. Then, the characteristics of digital maps developed by Korean Geography Institute and National Marine Investigation Institute are carefully analyzed and integrated to a digital map as a test for edge matching in coastal line. Developed test coastal map was overlayed with a high-resolution satellite image (KVR-1000). The ground survey using Global Positioning System was conducted for the analysis of edge matching along the coastal line. Results from the edge matching analysis of coastal lines showed about 14 meters mean difference in artificial terrain and 4 meters mean difference in natural terrain. The problems, causes and solutions for the edge-matched differences are described. Furthermore, the value of utilization, the future use and various fields of application produced by the integrated digital map database are suggested as a basis for ICZM implementation in South Korea.

  • This paper performed terrain analysis using DTM(digital terrain model) with TIN/ GRID structure on PC environment. Contour layer from 1:5,000 scale map was used to produce DTM. DTHs were produced with and without considering breakline for each data structure. Processing time, file size, mean elevation and standard variation were analyzed for each DTM. slope map, aspect map were analyzed for grid structure with consideration of TEX>$5\times{5m},\;l0\times{10m},\;15\times{15m},\;l0\times{30m},\;45\times{45m},\;60\times{60m}$ cell size respectively. The results suggest following; The incorporation of breakline does improve mapping accuracy for highly disturbed landscape, Mean elevation doesn't increase as the grid size increases, while processing time, storage room is significantly lessened. Thus, the optimal grid size must be determined in advance for efficient application. slope decreases, while aspect increases as grid size is increasing.
