The digitalization of our society has brought on the digitalization of housing design and human life. Thus, the concerns for developing digital home have increased. However, most of them has focused on digital technology, not human. This study was intended to examine the residents' housing needs for digital home and to suggest the design guidelines of digital home. The subjects were 400 housewives who lived and used internet in $85m^2$-sized housing unit in the new apartment complex, Busan. The important aspects in digital home design, the residents' needs for digital home design, and the needs for digital system in digital home were examined. The subjects were relatively young in their ages. Also, they had relatively high educational level and middle income. On the base of their housing needs for digital home, the design of digital home like as followings would be desirable: 1) the safe and secure design and digital system, 2) the design to improve residents' health and encourge family interaction, 3) human, warm, and soft interior mood, 4) space composition different from the existing one.

In this paper, we propose a Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) proxy system, to provide services for accessing and sharing various DLNA-based media contents which are distributed over his/her or other's home facilities via home network or internet. The proposed system based on DLNA[1] and SIP Notification mechanism[2] so that data such as contents can be transferred from home network consisted with private IP from outside public IP networks.

This study examined the awareness of the middle aged about the digital home system and well-being apartment design elements in order to suggest the design guidelines for planning of the elderly housing environment. By literature review, the concept and characteristics of the digital home system and well-being Apartment design elements were summarized the degree of satisfaction and preference of middle aged for these characteristics were investigated and analyzed. For this study, a questionnaire survey of 156 housewives living in apartment complex of Busan was carried out. The results of this study are as follows: The middle aged were generally short of recognition for digital skill and service, and also they showed positive evaluations to a few useful items of digital home system. These items belong under safety security system and interior environment control system and provided for convenient & comfortable life. Accordingly, satisfied digital home system can apply basic design element for housing for elderly. Whereas, the middle-aged were not satisfied with housework help system and cultural life system because items of these systems were not various and complicate to us. So, for the improvement of not satisfied digital home system, we needed development of digital contents and marketing & management for high accessibility and easy useability. The middle aged will concern about health & environment friendly continuously and become to stay long in their housing as the characteristics of elderly. So, It is necessary to be considered well-being apartment design elements of health & environment friendly very actively and lastingly in elderly housing environment design. Also, the awareness of middle aged for digital home system and well-being apartment design elements varied according to the background characteristics. This suggests housing environment for elderly life is considered differently as various background characteristics of middle aged.

The purpose of this study was to identify the level of awareness, uses, and satisfaction on home automation systems by the digital home residents, to reveal the existing problems using home automation systems, and to clarify residents' positive or negative life changes after using home automation systems. Two apartment complexes, which were relatively well equipped with home automation systems compared to other recently built apartments, were selected to perform the survey by digital home residents who were housewives and have lived in current home more than 6 months. The researcher developed a survey questionnaire for each apartment complex and collected data from 501 residents from May to June, 2008. The results of the study found low awareness and low uses of remote control systems of electric appliances through a cellular phone or PC from outside. Also, the significant variables which showed group differences in level of uses and satisfation were age, annual income, duration of residence, and level of considering home automation system before decision to move in. The results of the study also revealed that frequent breakdown was the most critical problem using home automation systems. Generally, using home automation systems affected to residents' life changes positively. More findings and suggestions for development of more user-friendly digital home services were discussed.

Network industry is complex combined with various fields of industry, such as communication, broadcast, construction, and home appliances. Moreover, it's fairly lucrative since the growth industry makes lots of added values, interacting with the others. The network industry, usually called 'Ubiquitous', connects some home appliances and makes an integrated system that you can use them with whenever and wherever. A demand for network security, however, has skyrocketed due to the relatively low safety. It's been expected that the market of home security is going to be grown up nearly 30 percent every year. Recently, analog surveilance cameras have been replaced with digital ones, and they will be providing stronger security services taking advantage of mutual interaction with related industies. In this paper, a mobile monitoring system for home security is proposed, which makes it possible to supervise all home appliances wherever you're, using the conventional wired/wireless network infra.

The study alms to seek a plan of applying the digital technology to housing for the elderly. The purpose of the study was to grasp the needs of the aged on 30 types of digital systems in housing. The subjects were 120 persons aged of more than 60 years and lived in Busan. Data were collected by the individual interview. The following results were drawn from this study. First, the needs of the aged on the digital systems categorized as safe and security, control of indoor environment, and housework support were very high and should be provided at first. Second, the necessary types of digital systems which should be provided to the digital home for the elderly were digital systems for heating control, health checking, sensing of fire and gas leak, and house cleaning. Also, the basic types of digital systems were ones for invasion and burglarproof, emergency, air cleaning, automatic facet, door locking, and waste collecting. Third, the Income and usage level of digital equipment of the aged influenced to the floods of the aged on the digital system. Therefore, in addition to the necessary and basic types of digital systems mentioned above, the income and usage level of digital equipment should be considered in planning the digital home for the elderly.

This study proposes the method seeking out the user needs for the home automation systems which are one of the compositions of digital home. The findings are as follows. (1) The designing of digital home should be based on the residents' daily life and the their needs for the future house prior to the digital technology, (2) The IT Apartments recently developed in Busan set up the safety and security system and the automatic ventilation system mostly. (3) The residents are more concerned of the safety and security and the comfortable interior environment than convenience and entertainments. (4) The residents have diverse needs for the home automation systems according to their age, residential experience and occupation.

Recently, newly built apartments in Korea are provided various home automation (HA) systems based on information technology(IT) for residents' safer, healthier and more convenient living. However, the residents in these digital apartments are often not able to use the home automation systems effectively because of lack of their IT knowledge, attitude, or education. However, there are few researches have been done to find out the HA systems' real problems with regard to residents' aspects who use those systems everyday. The purpose of this study was to find out residents' current uses, satisfaction level and existing problems of HA systems by residents' POE. The findings of this study will give useful information to digital home construction companies to provide user-friendly digital home services for increasing users' satisfaction. One distinctive apartment equipped with home automation systems located in Seoul was selected for in-depth personal interview. The researcher developed a survey instrument and collected the data from 58 residents in January, 2007 who had been living there for more than a year. The results of the study found that critical problems were existed in several systems and they caused a lot of dissatisfaction from the residents. Also, some residents do not use several systems although they need to use them due to the burden of maintenance fee. Further detail findings and suggestions of this study were discussed.
